Malzahar is weaker now than before his update. Learn how to play against him and stop crying.

The irony is that they keep nerfing his only defensive tool. The brand new tool which didn't exist previously.

They see this drop off of people who can't play malzahar defensively enough, dropping the win rate. And as i predicted, it really didn't have some massive affect on his win rate, despite people calling it the "OP part of his kit". Yeah, a 5% drop in win rate, can be considered a lot, but when almost all of the power budge in your kit is supposedly split between the passive and W, and they nerf the W too 1/8 of the previous power, w/o any compensation. I've got to think that the influence of his passive was being over exaggerated.

Though honestly they could remove the passive all together at this point, and probably see little change in win rate. People who can play him safely will still be able to without the passive. Unlike those who were overly relying on the passive to protect them. An ironic anecdote, my personal win rate and average scores have gone up with malzahar since the passive nerf. I stopped playing as aggressive and played more passive. You know, THE THING THEY SAID THEY WANTED TO CHANGE~~!

Though the champion is worse now than he was before in terms of offensive gameplay, he has almost no agency to force a fight, and realistically it's really not even necessary against him, as his farming pattern is massively sub-par now.

Have you tried a duolane with tahm? He can launch the space aids at champions. a space aids cannon. OP af. Its amazing.

You know how they could have easily handled making him more aggressive? Move his original voidlings to W, make his E summon a lesser voidling (a current voidling) WHEN AN ENEMY DIES FROM IT, cap W voidling to 1/1/2/2/3, and give him a spellblade passive.

Giving malzahar a spellblade passive and a more aggressive W would have very easily fixed riots perceived problems... regardless malzahar was more balanced AND FUN pre-rework.

deadlychuck1 votes

Well they weren't looking to make him more aggressive, they were trying to make him have more agency, basically a higher tendency to fight. Though low agency doesn't mean low impact.

They wanted to remove his W,E,R combo. (The ult change alone did that). They wanted to increase the importance of voidlings to AP malzahar, something i think they overstepped by about 3 parsecs. They wanted to increase his agency, and allow for more when fighting him.

In order, they wanted to remove his burst combo (fine), they wanted to increase the importance of something that was out of the player's direct control (and reduced his control over the voidlings in the change).

And they wanted to increase his agency?... i kinda want an elaboration of this particular claim. Agency being something to produce a particular result, so what they're saying is that malzahar wasn't good (as a champion) at achieving a particular result... and it made other champions less capable of achieving their intended result...

Im fairly sure riot thought that malzahars only viable playstyle was the "cluck cluck ima farmhand" playstyle where he never did anything at all, like pre-rework sona. Malzahar had a HUGE idenity as an anti-assassin, the only one in the game who was not just anti engage, but whose own burst, whose own assassination pattern required someone with mobility to jump him.

By removing the old W - the pool - and replacing it with voidlings gated by rank, you create a more interactive playstyle. By giving him a spell blade passive, you create a more interactive and aggressive playstyle. By giving him both, you create a situation where you can use malefic visions AND voidlings as a limiter; malefic visions will do half damage unless it has been damaged by a voidling, waveclear will be slow WITHOUT multiple voidlings, and AP gives your voidlings damage resistance against champions.

the rework was for the sake of a rework. It didnt fix the problems, it only created more problems that leave an existing playerbase alienated and angry. The best change would be to revert the rework at this point, because the only way theyre going to balance malzahar is if his Q and E are essentially his entire kit; his voidlings are crap unless theyre stacked up, his ult does very little damage unless youre using it on a tank, and his passive is useless because its no longer a safety tool. Keep in mind malzahar went from 1170 base damage plus 2.9AP of guaranteed damage to 25% max health +1.4AP +450 base damage. he has had, litterally, the largest nerf in the history of the game. over 50% of his damage GONE.

Malz is SO strong right now yet any time someone tries to point it out people downvote them and tell them they're wrong. Its a bit ridiculous at this point

chubs12244 votes

Malzahar is much weaker this patch after his passive nerfs. The stats on champion.gg are from last patch before the nerfs. Now his passive takes twice as long to come up and only lasts .25 sec vs the 1 sec it was before this makes him much easier to all in or even poke.

He's at a 52% win rate.

So what was he at before the MYMU?

BIH Diamond2 votes

54/55. 3% is a good drop, but Malz will still be top tier. That champ is strong and has a cancerous kit. Those 2 don't go well together

perfectly fine, you could poke him down before you engage him.

now its "o his passive stopped my poke, well maybe- o his passive is back up before my poke... maybe if o he has ult now. guess im j- o hes pushing me under my turret as well?"

Have a Nice Game3 votes

Used to be 24-6

And "but still" nothing

The duration/uptime of Malzahar's shield has been effectively cut down by like 87.5% due to the double nerf in 6.15

I may have quit playing Malz after 6.9, but that nerf still makes me wince.

If your poke champion has cooldowns of 30 seconds in the early game and 12 seconds in the late game I suggest you find another poke champion.

Well this is why.

Ahri walks up to lane and sees Malzahar . Ahri Nope. afks

replace Ahri with any midlaner and you have your answer.

Lux, Varus, Xerath, Zigs, Heimer all win lane against malzahar.

For a better idea of malz counters you could check this post: https://www.reddit.com/r/MalzaharMains/comments/4vfhn3/what_counter_malzahar/

Of course that's expecting you to trust people who actually play malz.

You posted during 6.15 patch, but probably looked up winrate on champion.gg that was still for 6.14 patch until today. For 5.15 his winrate is just around 50% (a bit less in mid, a bit more in top), so your post about him having high winrate is flat out wrong as of the last patch (that happened a few days before you posted). Hence the downvotes.

here is the fun part. a massive drop like that will probably net him a small buff if it keeps dropping like it has. and it will

i just saw a Malzahar jungle vs my team , we won at 20 mins due to ff and had a 9 k gold lead and 24 to 11 kill advantage. won all 3 lanes.
