how do you exactly tank against adcs?

MunchCrunchLunch··2 votes·831 views

I still get melted in seconds just from damage taken from the adc even with ridiculous armor and health. last game twitch was killing me so fast while i had 70% armor. and 4k health. i mean i just feel like. when you buy MR against mages. they cant do shit. it feels right. oh i got MR. am dying a lot less to them now. but armor doesn't do jack shit. I got armor. instead of dying instantly. now it takes 3-4 more seconds.

You don't, at least not really. ADCs are supposed to melt tanks, not the other way around.

Rammus and Malphite are exceptions to the rule, so you could try them out.

Rammus gives himself another 120 armor for free periodically and Malphite usually ults the ADC in a teamfight before it can even do anything, and it dies from focus. No other tanks have these kinds of advantages of just being able to ignore the ADC and go to work

Exactly, that's why I suggested them.

i thought tanks were to act as a bullet sponge for the team. not basically die just as fast to adcs

This apply against Mages and Assassins (or it should), Tanks are mostly beefy disruptors that must survive enough to disturb the enemy team enough to make their own team able to melt theirs.

you can tank against mages and assassins. but the auto attack nature. 2.0 or something close to it attacks that crit at 600+ are just ridiculous. while a mage has an ult that does 1k damage or an entire kit that does. idk 3k damage. the adc can do all that damage to you within the same period and continuously.

It makes a little more sense if you understand the Damage Triangle:

Tankiness offers a lot more EHP than any Burst Champ can ever muster in a single rotation Burst champs have more than enough upfront firepower to kill a DPS before the DPS has enough time to act. DPS, if given enough time, will outscale Tankiness in terms of raw numbers

It's more or less the natural order of things. DPS is supposed to beat Tankiness just as Tankiness is supposed to beat Burst. Asking how to Tank and ADC is backwards thinking. Your focus more should be on disrupting them; having the upfront damage to threaten them outright or giving them no time to scale their numbers on (Malphite and Rammus, once again, come to mind).

damn dude. preach.

They can definitely do that; it's just that, even as sponge, they'll go down if they soak too many bullets and ADCs carry a lot of bullets/arrows/spears/squiggly lines. And that's entirely reasonable.

now it takes 3-4 more seconds.

You need to understand: that is a long time in this game. Teamfights only last a few seconds and 3-4 seconds of constant damage is a lot.

Also, what Stars Shaper (EUW) said.

If you're having trouble with that, make sure you're buying Tabi. The 10% reduction vs basic attacks is really nice. Also get things like Randuin's Omen for crit builds and Frozen Heart for attack speed builds.

And then, when they still do a lot of damage, get Thornmails and make them suicide.

You tank them the same way you did before. You just don't survive.

BluePolarizer3 votes

You can't. The proper way to play a tank is:

  1. Engage and let your team follow up.
  2. Check for 1 of 3 conditions:

a. Can you kill the ADC in 3 seconds? Go to substep 1. b. Can you hurt the ADC enough to zone them from the fight for 5 seconds? Go to substep 2. c. Neither: go to substep 3.

  1. Kill them.
  2. Zone them then run back when you're gonna die (at around 1/3 since they won't be chasing)
  3. Drop all your CDs and run away after you get to half. They'll still be shooting you at half so you'll get away at around 200-300 HP or so.

Last game I see you against Twitch was your Ekko jungle game where the only armor items you had were Deadman's Plate and Guardian Angel. While you had a lot of health, you had very little armor and Wukong had a Black Cleaver. The Twitch also had 37 kills by the end of the game, so he was extremely fed.

As a jungle tank, I will typically build something along the following lines: item 1413 item 3110 item 3102 item 3075

With those items, most ADCs cannot kill you easily since you have a good amount of health, a massive amount of armor, you slow their attack speed, and you return 50 + 15% of the basic attack's damage to the autoattacker.

Also, you are comparing mages (primarily burst damage) to marksmen (primarily sustained damage). If you built MR against consistent damage mages such as Cassiopeia or Azir, you would find that it only helped you live slightly longer too. If you build armor against AD Casters (i.e. Pantheon, Talon, Zed), you will find it much easier to survive.

what champ are you, what champ are they. give me a scenario, ill give you an explanation

MunchCrunchLunch1 votes

am not saying i want to go and 1v1 adc full tank and expect to survive as full build because they will just lifesteal all the litle damage i do and i don't. but the fact is. tanking just doesn't seem to work against them. it works against the rest of their team. just not against adcs. you jump in the team fight and try to absord the damage. and boom. you died. before your fully engaged because all that armor doesn't matter against adcs.

TehNACHO1 votes

That's usually because it's literally the ADCs entire job to kill the Tank~

I have a great strat for you play one of these champions: Garen Darius DrMundo Volibear Nasus TahmKenchMalphite

you don´t. lategame you kill the adc or he kills you, tanking only works midgame if you´re fed.

Some ADCS scale very well into the late game, particularly ones that incorporate %HP damage in their kits. At the very late stage of the game, it's best to run with Randuin+Frozen Heart to decrease the amount of shots while they are able to throw out. These champions scale very well with life steal as well, so bear in mind that an AP-based tank might be the best choice against late-scalers for sake of additional burst damage--their primary weakness--and Morello's Grevious Wounds effect. If you can't, one of the AD Champs on your team should really be running with Mortal Reminder, or at leastitem 3123. High armor will only protect you up until the point that the enemy marksman gets a Last Whisper up, and not until you have Randuin+FH and possibly Thornmail up. Having a big HP pool is also an obvious asset.

Tanking an ADC who has left lane is only half the battle--your botlane must also do their part. Late Scalers typically have poor laning phases, so pushing your lane constantly and denying them CS, as well as throwing out strong pokes, will do you a great service come midgame when the enemy ADC can't capitalize on the momentum from their CS to fight. ADCs with strong midgames, like Corki and MF, are very effective at oppressing the marksman in question, as are supports with good pokes and the ability to lock in kills or harass in some other way.

Earlygame oriented ADCs have the potential to get a huge lead on the enemy early on, but if the enemy plays it safe they will outscale you and, at that point, you're screwed.

You call the focus and CC them, and your team follows up and kills them before they kill you. If your team doesn't listen you have bigger problems than the enemy ADC.
