Bring back Mana Manipulator?

It wasn't that good an item. It only cost 300 Gold. But it was better - healthier - than Essence Reaver in my opinion.
So maybe Riot could bring back a similar item again? I do have some suggestions :)

##Mana Manipulator

  • Recipe: Amplifying Tomb + Faerie Charm + 135 Gold = 750 Gold
  • 30 Ability Power
  • UNIQUE Aura - Mana Warp: Grants nearby allies +25% base Mana Regen per 5 seconds.

It grants Ability Power and Mana Regen for allies while costing little Gold.
For the Support it's worth 832.5 Gold alone, which is already Gold efficient, but it also gains 180 Gold in worth per nearby ally with Mana.
Supports couldn't buy it immediately. After getting their Gold item and Sightstone on their first back (is Sightstone even still a thing?) and then maybe boots and upgrading their Gold item and getting something useful like Mikael's Crucible, they may be able to buy it. But if their Marksmen is someone like Ezreal or simply likes to spend Mana, then they could earlier just as well.

##Frost Queen's Claim

  • Recipe: Frostfang + Mana Manipulator + 485 Gold = 2100 Gold
  • 40 Ability Power
  • 2 Gold per 10 seconds
  • 50% base Mana Regen per 5 seconds
  • UNIQUE Passive - Tribute: [...]
  • UNIQUE Aura - Mana Manipulator: Grants nearby allies +50% base Mana Regen per 5 seconds and +10 Ability Power.
  • UNIQUE Active: Fires an ice lance [...]

Many a Support who picks up Spellthief's Edge will upgrade it to Frostfang and then stop. I've seen Supports (myself included) rather sell Frostfang in the late game then ever upgrade it to Frost Queen's Claim. It simply isn't worth it for them.
But with this Aura, it might be a bit more enticing. The changes are:

  • 10% Cooldown Reduction
  • + Aura that grants allies +50% base Mana Regen per 5 seconds and +10 Ability Power
    • + 50% base Mana Regen for yourself as well
  • Cost lowered by 100 Gold

10 Ability Power might not be much - it will certainly be invisible power - but it's something. And along with 50% base Mana Regen, which can be up to 12 Mana Regen per 5 seconds (Jinx), it certainly is a useful aura. And to me it's worth losing 10% Cooldown Reduction. Supports have far too much Cooldown Reduction anyways. Most games I get 45 or 50%.

##Morellonomicon

  • Recipe: Fiendish Codex + Mana Manipulator + 730 Gold = 2300 Gold
  • 80 Ability Power
  • 10% Cooldown Reduction
  • 50% base Mana Regen per 5 seconds
  • UNIQUE Aura - Mana Manipulator: Grants nearby allies +50% base Mana Regen per 5 seconds.
  • UNIQUE Passive: Dealing magic damage [...]

Lastly, I would build Mana Manipulator into Morellonomicon as it A) differs it further from Athene's Unholy Grail and B) makes the item more enticing to Supports.

That's all. Thanks for reading.

I'm not sure about reworking Morello, but I love the changes to FQC. Also, were it to happen, I suspect I'd start playing Azir in bot lane more frequently.

Azir? o.o
The new FQC wouldn't have any CDR, only 50% more MP5.

He scales like an ADC, not a mage with an ADC's objective control, yet still has crazy amounts of CC. I main him in mid, but take him bot for fun now and then. The only real problem he runs into is he's more mana hungry than normal down there, but if my support could buy Mana Manipulator, those mana problems would vanish. If you account the fact that the OP also suggested it give AP...

I dont think it fits the morrello, however i do very much like it on frost queen. It turns it into sort of a zekes herald, and i love that item, and i love the idea of giving your carry some mana sustain for harrass and team sustain for siege. I think the support items need a serious look over along with sightstone...ive seen a couple threads pop up regarding that, and i think it needs to happen, sightsone should build into something or even become a part of the support item build path

Is sightstone still a thing? Yes. If you're not in bronze.

Illâoi Evê Siôn2 votes

Yeah, but if 4 players upgrade the warding trinket, shouldn't it be enough wards? ^^

Blazin J1 votes

You make a point. However, you have to be level 9 to upgrade your trinkets. By then, it's better for the support in bottom lane to buy the sightstone and get some ward coverage around bot side. Moreover, four warding trinkets is not a good idea. Yes, you're gonna have 8 freaking wards around them map; but, if the enemy invests in some pinks and red trinkets, then you will probably lose all the vision around the map. ADC usually gets blue trinket, jungler and support get red trinkets, and mid and top just get whatever their team needs.

Sure, but that can't happen until level 9 and honestly the other trinkets are pretty good. Upgraded red is ubiquitous.

I miss mana manipulator, Elisas miracle was another one I wish was still in the game.

I more think we need a few alternate upgrades for the "gold trinities" right now. Right now they are all very active focused, and at times can almost feel selfish (Looking at you Frostqueen). Having a variant (an enchantment upgrade like the boots/jungle items) would be nice.

Having it be that you can upgrade them all into a few common selfish just +stat variants, as well as one of their unique forms that has the signature active or aura, would be a nice trade off. For example, you could have Sightstone merge into them, where you get the sightstone active (this sort of plays into enchant upgrades for Sightstone as well in this case, but another issue), but lose out on the active (or new aura) that the item can get. Or, you could turn it into an aura machine, where you don't get the active but instead get an aura to go with it to amp up your carry (Your mana manipulator idea for either FQ, Zeke's for Relic Shield (Note, this also helps set up ADC duo lanes, or duo bruiser lanes, as this is a very helpful thing to have easily available for such lanes), and Guardian (an armor+hp/p5 aura built from raptor cloak) for Talisman.) This also gives the items a divergent choice (FQ for making picks, MM upgrade for siege; Relic for surge boosting a teammates durability/save potential, Zeke for boosting in combat sustain (note, you could make it be say 5% lifesteal/Spellvamp aura, to make it more of a general team sustain buy/better for the duo bruiser comps over the just 10% lifesteal upgrade, that tones it down to the ADC getting the buff in lane early on); and Talisman for initiation, or Guardian for team durability/recovery).

Naw man return that one item that gave you mana/hp each time you used an ability.

Illâoi Evê Siôn5 votes

It built out of Mana Manipulator ^^

Fredart1 votes

I thought it built from phil stone.

I'm with you 100% about helping supports get cheaper utility items (like having Morello be available during lane phase even). Idk if that means incorporating mana manipulator into their build paths, but I also see no harm in bringing it back either way.

That said, my true lost love is soul shroud. Riot please.

From all the lost items, I actually miss Shard of True Ice the most. The item was far too powerful on certain champions (Warwick).

SociopathFriend1 votes

Huh, I try to get my item 3092 as soon as I can while also getting item 2049 - unless I'm very close to level 9 in which case I'll just grab a standard ward or two and hold out for the item 3361 upgrade. Granted, I mostly play Nami Sona Soraka support; that 80% slow is very good and easy to land so you can get your other skillshots in with no problem.

Yeha I missed that thiefs key item thing? That gave AoE mana regen I really loved buying that on supports

Sightless661 votes

First suggestion: Meh. Not going to sink valuable early game gold into an item that doesn't enhance my gold generation or build into a larger item.

Second suggestion: Situationally better, but only because of the AP on the aura. That is worth infinitely more to me than the aura mana regen, in large part because I know I'll have allies who actually care about it. If this goes through, I guarantee it will only be a month or so before people are begging Riot to remove the mana regen aura and up the AP. That's what I would beg for. If it wasn't for that AP, it would just be so mediocre.

Third suggestion: Better. Theoretically workable. I'm not sure it's the best direction for the item, or that it would really be used for this purpose. I'm not seeing this really giving it a major differentiation from Athene's, but I could see this being enough to stop some other differentiating change from being added. That might be a solvable problem though.

Dude you are a freaking genius. although i think 40 ap might be to high for something so cheap. Maybe 30 or 35? Either way i definitely think this deserves more up votes and would make bot lane a more played lane and enjoyable for all. Glad to see some people trying to make a change for the better.

hey now, if laners can't be bothered to buy wards or upgrade their trinkets, how the hell do they have any right to force a support to spend 800 gold on vision?

:3

Penta Penguin1 votes

I buy wards. I'll even buy multiple pinks on ADC just to get true vision on Dragon.

I love you.
