Azir interactions with Rylais

Just a thought here for discussion;

Rylais procs on abilities, not on auto attacks. Azir has the ability to summon soldiers, send them to a location, and attack for him and they gain damage scaling on this ability power. This means his QWER are all abilities however the sand soldiers actually attacking as a part of his W is not actually an ability. Perhaps the soldiers should only proc Rylais on Q, E, R or the initial cast of a W if the soldier spawns on top of a champ but not proc on the auto attacks of the soldiers themselves.

This screams "Give them another Azir bug to work out" and he's probably in a decent place as is. Just a thought for discussion.

Azir may be the most effective user of Rylais, and while I utterly hate playing against a competent Azir, he doesn't need any more nerfs.

He soldiers attacks are sort of an ability themselves.

Rylai's procs off of MINION attacks. This means that the sand soldiers are supposed to proc it. they even have their own proc type since they are minions. Same goes for champs like Yorick Mordekaiser should they get Rylai's. Morde's ghost is very effective for that reason. although they should fix the infinite firecannon on his ghost. If you don't know what that is, it's where Morde's ghost will always have the firecannon's range. It's a bit weird.

It certainly causes some readability issues, but I don't think the way it functions should be changed. If spell effects were to be taken away from his sand soldier autos he would be forced to play as an AD champions because he doesn't utilize spell combos well enough to proc Lich Bane and wouldn't receive enough bonus damage to sand soldier hits from AP to make it valuable. While AD Azir may not be a bad concept, I prefer him as he is because he has some actual choice in the amount of utility he provides. It's a bit unclear, but it's better off remaining untouched.

What make you think this? The Q would still proc Rylais as its a dash/damage ability he casts. Literally just the AA of the soldier wouldn't. So if you walk up and it AA's you - no slow. However if you walk up and he casts a new one on you or uses Q to move them to you, it would.

Casting W is not a damage-dealing ability, so it wouldn't proc any form of spell effect. The real question here is, why does that slow need to be removed? it already comes severely reduced (20% for 1 second), so he's only utilizing it half as effectively as any other given mage. He has no cc in his normal skill rotation as it is, so the only way he can effectively trade cc onto you is through sand soldier autos. Spamming Q's to try and proc slows would destroy his trading patterns and take a lot of security from him, so it's a non-option.

Is that 20% slow really affecting you that much? All it does is give him one extra auto on you before you move out of range, and he already needs as much as he can get off a single rotation because he's entirely vulnerable until his Q comes back up. Besides, it's not like those slows stack.

That extra auto adds up to the sum of (170 + (60% AP))x2.5(%based on masteries)x2(if 2 soldiers are out) at level 18. That's over 1000 damage in one AA before resistance.

You and I both know that calculating lv18 damage without restistance is a crapshoot on any carry champion. Besides, any soldier auto past the first only does 25% of the damage, so a lv18 Azir with 2 soldiers is dealing approx. 850 damage per rotation before resistances.

That pales in comparison to almost any lv18 ADC dealing crit damage, and Azir's intended strength is in the mid to late teamfights, anyway. If you don't beat Azir in the early-mid game, he's going to be a heavy carry threat--which is wholly expected.

All fair points.
