In Champ Select add the "chest earned" boarder to the champions

theArtifacts··283 votes·5,730 views

That way when playing norms I know which champs I can still earn a chest on.

EDIT: This has a ton of upvotes.. maybe we could get some sort of Riot comment?

For those saying "How hard is it to check before you get into a match?" well.. when you have most of the champs and a good number of chests earned on them it's hard to recall all of the champs available on the fly when you're trying to make a team comp. It's not always as simple as ChampX has no chest earned.. I'll play that champ. I'd still like to make a pick that works with the team in w/e lane I'm in. Besides - it wouldn't add any more clutter to add the already made boarder to the champ select icons.

I agree 100% too many times have i forgotten which champions i had already unlocked a chest on and played them thinking ill get another chest...

Rather than a border, just a chest icon in the corner would be nice.

This sounds really good. A shiny closed chest icon could attract attention towards "untapped" champions, and a depleted-looking open chest would immediately convey which champions have already been used for their rewards.

Well, having a chest icon on all champs would clutter the screen. There simply needs to be a little open chest icon on champs you've earned chests for this season.

The icon doesn't have to be particularly large. In the client champion list, for example, there's enough space around the mastery icon, or even in the nook underneath, to display a little opened/unopened chest, and in Champion Select proper there's similarly enough space for a tiny bright square in the top right/left corner.

But for champ select, you need clarity and speed. Having EVERY champ you own have a chest icon, open or closed, doesn't help in that regard. If just the champs who you've earned a chest with have an icon, that is a lot more clear and understandable. It sounds like you're describing the Champions page in your profile, not the actual champ lIst in champ select.

I was describing both, but you have a point, it might be more economical to just list opened chest icons. I'm not sure having both open and closed icons would drastically affect clarity, since they shouldn't be obstructing a champion's portrait either way, but in the case of players with wide champion pools having too many closed chest icons might cause a lot of unnecessary repetition.

Visually it's easier and faster to see which champion you have a chest with and which not. It's either they have a tiny golden chest icon or they don't, you don't have to check if it's open or closed. It sounds dumb but believe me, for the sake of clarity it's the best.

Or better yet just make it so we dont have to play a new champion for every single chest... New players will like this change and people who are one trick ponies in ranked will like it too. Im only going to get chest during Urf and One for all currently. Maybe make one chest unlock every 10,000 champion mastery points after you get your first S rank.

I dunno, I kind of like how once a week I have motivation to play an actual fun champion for a bit.

Because DQ is irredeemable trash, the only way to rank up is to play a champion whose kit is complete bullshit (e.g. Zed, Heimerdinger, Fizz) or one that has essentially no counters (Cho, Azir) and just spam that one champion forever. You also literally cannot play support, because you'll be matched against people in VC, so my favorite position is out.

Basically, it's a nice break to pick a random champ and try for S ranks once in a while since ranked queue is zero fun, has no sense of accomplishment, and doesn't allow any variation of champ selection anymore.

Gigathor1 votes

I have the feeling you're in the wrong post. There's lots of them of people whining about dinamic queue already, so please don't bring the topic here too.

Mirkhail1 votes

you don't have to play ranked to earn a chest and before chest you need keys, you will probably have way more chest then keys.

I think that would help a LOT for people like me who even forget which champs they earned them on and forgot to check before going into a Queue. It would also help with "oh I got a chest as X, well I haven't played Y in a long time maybe I should." etc

It'd be a nice QoL update but not really worth mentioning IMO. I already check my chest eligibility from time to time and have the champion list sorted by "Highest Mastery", since the client saves this setting unlike sorting by 'Availability'.

I don't see how a new player would prefer the latter and rather grind for chests. Also, do you know what a chest every 10k mastery would look like? I'm at 267k and that's nothing... there are people with over 900k. With the current drop rate of keys you'd have massive inflation.

The problem is, highest mastery does not equal a chest unlock. I've gotten S ranks on several champions when I was out of available chests to earn so that will skew the results.

Same, i have unlocked chests with champions that I have 2-3 mastery lvl and only 1 chest with 5 lvl.

That's true. This was before the change that allowed anyone to receive chests on eligible champions provided a teammate received an S- ranking, since you'd typically only get S- once you have some familiarity with a given champion but of course this isn't always the case.

Ok kids, hold on to your chairs because I'm about do drop some knowledge... (spoiler alert: it might blow your mind) Some time ago there was this invention called "paper and pen", you should try it out, works surprisingly well!

BeatzBoyFTW1 votes

So you're one of the 2 downvoters.....

Totally Troll3 votes

No, I even up voted now because it's a good idea. Just saying that instead of forgetting/guessing in champion select you can use paper and pen ;p

Kinetika1 votes

Or they could add it to the damn champ select screen like the OP suggested...

Clearly they're keeping track. Hell they have jungle camp spawn hourglasses now - it's a reasonable expectation to see which champs you've earned chests for.

Logged in to upvote. A simple but great idea that would help players out.

Giving us the ability to filter the champ select window in general would be nice. Instead of the useless custom gear sets, let us save custom lists of champs in each lane, or click filter boxes to remove things we already have at maximum mastery/already earned chests on/etc.

this would save post it notes on my part. :)

Is it that hard to look before joining a match and remember for the whole 5 minutes it might take to choose someone?

Gigathor1 votes

The amount of upvotes and comments here makes me wonder... where the hell are the Rioters? This is a good idea, and it's not even complicated, it's simple as fuck! Come on, Riot! Give this man a cookie, a permanent job and a legendary skin of his choice!
