@Riot I think Yasuo nerfs are too far

I understand why the Yasuo nerfs are wanted. Yasuo is clearly a strong champion who scales well. I just think Riot is going about this the wrong way.

current changes on the PBE: Base HP now 380 (down from 430) Base movement now 340 (down from 350)

His early game is already weak enough, and doing this will cripple his ability to trade at all. In order for him to poke he needs to place himself in a disadvantageous position, just like every melee laner. If these changes go through, Yasuo will have the LOWEST base hp of any melee champion. There are other champions who scale just as hard, if not harder, while remaining even safer in the laning phase. (E.G. Syndra, Ori, Xerath, Ryze).

On top of all this, this pretty much enforces the meta and solidifies Yasuo as a mid laner. Good luck taking him top now, imagine having to lane against a Ryze (with ranged damage, higher base HP, higher HP scaling, a root, better general scaling, and the same movement speed).

I am usually not a fan of the "slippery slope" argument, but I am a little bit afraid of the direction riot is taking. It's a bit disturbing that the only viable melee laners are getting nerfs every patch. It seems to me that the list of viable melee champions is dwindling. I can almost guarantee that these changes will take Yasuo off that list.

There are other ways to nerf Yasuo without completely gutting him. Maybe give him a bit better HP scaling, since his early game is getting crushed. Or only give him the movement speed change. I would love to see Riot's reasoning behind these changes.

  • "Lowest base HP of melees"

  • Shield that is always up when he engages and frequently up against poke

Pick one

A shield that can be mitigated with a single long ranged auto-attack. This argument is like the same as the old nidalee argument for why she didnt need nerfs, it just takes one thing out of context and completely simplifies it "just dodge the spear"

50 hp can be mitigated with a single auto-attack too...

I'll take the hp please. Yasuo's flow passive has always felt like a shit version of mordekaisers, and feels out of place in his kit.

Yasuo's shield is probably a crutch in his kit to assist his trading. On the other hand, it also rewards his enemies for popping it before trading - so it produces a bit of gameplay too. It might not fit with the rest of his kit, but he needs it all the same.

Well. :P

I think it's valid that you feel that way, and for what it's worth I never felt its impact thattt much myself (but then, I played him only a few times.) I did always feel like it was something a better player could get better results out of, but if you're feeling that you can't get good results out of it that's not ideal.

I'm convinced that if any melee champion can survive these nerfs, it'll be Yasuo. Not saying that these aren't painful, but Yasuo's kit gives him ways to work around it.

Consider: Yasuo might now have the lowest health among all melees, but Yasuo also has his passive shield. With it, he gains artificial hp to be back on par with other melees. In addition, Yasuo's attack range is 175, as opposed to the 125 of other melees. Steel Tempest can also let him farm from 475 range.

Is Yasuo dead? I don't think so. Yasuo's shield, Wind Wall, and extended ranges can still let him survive and farm up.

That Yasuo is confined to midlane isn't anything negative, in my opinion. Yasuo lacks escapes and lacks the tankiness expected from current toplaners, so it's no surprise that he's stuck mid. Plenty of champions are confined to certain lanes; it's nothing bad in my opinion.

If I had to guess why Riot chose those two nerfs specifically, I would guess it's to force Yasuo to take advantage of the unique aspects of his kit. Yasuo is now forced to use his shield if he wants to trade, and must also now rely on his E for mobility.

If I turn out to be completely, utterly wrong, then ... oops. I guess it's a learning experience on balance for me either way.

Wait, he actually is allowed to be weak during a phase of the game instead of just being stronger than everyone else. No us Yasuo mains can't have that, he has to be strong the entire time to make up for being resourceless and having almost non-existent cooldowns

If you want to see what a weak champion actually is look at GP. Yasuo needs these nerfs

He snowballs so hard that it really doesn't matter what his health is. His full combo with static and ie can kill most champions while they are knocked up. Plus he is a mobility assassin he really doesn't need that much health. His lane phase is going to be a little harder but if in the mid and late game he is reduce to less than 10% health he was probably going to die any because he probably got cc the 50 health isn't going to mean much at that point.

I kinda like this Nerf because it reduces his durability basically makes him have to kill his target or he will die.

I agree with you on this, I think the complaints on yasuo are vastly over-stated. Yasuo has a 46% win rate in ranked at the moment, and it's not like he's a low counterplay champ. I like playing yasuo, but I like playing against him too because some champs counter him extremely hard. Pick fiddlesticks and Yasuo will have almost an impossible time in lane.

All these complaints about Yasuo scaling so hard (and yes, he does scale too hard after two main items) aren't even addressed by these nerfs. He'll still scale just as hard with these items. Wouldn't it make more sense to address this by increasing the crit damage reduction from his passive, especially at lower levels? Yasuo has plenty of bad matchups in mid, and I feel like these nerfs just amplify those matchups to being almost impossible for Yasuo to just survive in lane.

Can you bump these posts? I had 6 pages of discussion on the old gd.

I don't know. But I did read it so thats a good sign. I disagree though. Yasuo will survive. He always does.

Seeing those numbers, cant really say much. Reminds me of sonas hp lol. Too low for a nerf. You are right that this is not the direction. But You cant really complain. He already has tremendous power mid game only with item 3087 if not, consider yourself lucky to have a bad early game but a great scaling during the rest of the game, not like a pretty new rework i knowCassiopeia But yeah prettry harsh nerf D:
