How come Barrier doesn't last as long as Ignite?

I learned this yesterday after dying to a Kat ignite while trying to protect myself from it with Barrier. It ended before ignite did and I died.

So why does Barrier have a shorter duration than ignite? I get that defensive options don't really fully counter offensive options in league, but I figured Barrier was a good counter to ignite and a great spell for midlane champions that want a bit more survivability.

summoner 1 removes it :)

summoner 21 Barrier is used to counter burst. Ignite is NOT burst, it's a DoT (Damage-over-Time) spell.

Best way to counter Ignite is Cleanse. summoner 1

Good to know.

Because then Barrier would completely invalidate Ignite.

  1. Barrier is good/decent against burst mages like Syndra and Annie, but not DoTs like Brand or Ignite.

Just use it when it reaches its last few ticks, do immediately blow it.

Because barrier is not meant to be a 1 button counter to ignite. Barrier is for a quick incoming burst, like a Syndra R. Ignite is a damage over time spell that slowly whittles down health.
