Anyone remember Barrier still?

It used to be a good choice. Now, even vs Ignites you're usually better off with Heal because it will benefit others too. I think Barrier needs to block more damage to be clearly differentiated from Heal as the premier personal defense spell.

It still is for some midlaners...

What about cleanse? :d

Nothing wrong with barrier. It already blocks more damage than heal can replace and it's effects aren't cut in half by ignite like heal is. I find barrier preferable against assassins while heal is better against sustained damage dealers.

Except that's exactly what it does already. It blocks a considerable amount more than Heal provides, making it a strong reactionary summoner spell. Midlane anti-assassin thingy.

Not really, the response to assassins is basically just Exhaust. I don't think I've seen a pro take Barrier in over a year. It needs to block more damage to be worth it over Heal's utility and use for allies. Objectively, it clearly doesn't stack up well.

Heal blocks less burst. Thus, Barrier is the premier personal defense spell against burst champions. Emphasis on "personal" as well.

Barrier works the best vs champions that get bonus's off of the damage they do. Example when zed ultis and you use barrier it does not count toward the bonus damage to his ulti because he did not damage your life bar.
