This is why Zz'Rot Portal is currently disabled
Riot, no need to delete this topic, even if it's showing off how the exploit works. No one can exploit it right now anyways because you disabled the item.
I'm just showing WHY it's disabled.

That's hilarious. The bad part is how the guy in the video straight up encourages you to go abuse the exploit, albeit in non-ranked.
Hardly an exploit riot deliberately allowed it to include bonus stats from a disconnected player. It's a situation they did not for see. If anything they should reward the people who posted the video for alerting them to how little the team thought about scaling before they brought it live.
What? How did they "deliberately allow it" and also "not foresee" it? That is a direct contradiction...
By allowing all forms of mr / armor to benefit the scaling of this item. It's not a contradiction. They intended for the item to scale with all forms there for they deliberately allowed something they did not see. Simple bro!
You don't know what the word "deliberate" means if you think someone can unknowingly act on a deliberate purpose.
Ya not an expliot its just showing exactly how short sighted the devs at riot are. They dont think everything out before doing stuff. They need to beta stuff in PBE better

the more people who do, the faster it gets disabled and fixed
That excuse is not going to hold up when they ban you.
They aren't banning anyone mate.
I'm speaking hypothetically, for those who knowingly abuse any bugs (heh) be it this one or any other. They might not do it for this one, but they have before for others and very well might in the future. You also aren't in charge, so even if they put out notice they wouldn't ban anyone for this particular exploit, they still reserve the right to.
no but the downvoters are right. making dozens of balance changes to discourage backdooring and then releasing an item that backdoors for you is totally not a 'wtf are these guys even doing here' moment at all. carry on, then.
What's even better is that people realized Garen's bonus armor and magic resistance 20% increase is perfect for this glitch
Though Garen in general is almost a perfect match for Zz'Rot in the first place
Him, Leona (it's not passive like Garen but it has the benifit to grant 20-60 armor/MR depending on the level in addition to the 20% increase) and Annie (50 Armor/MR shield) are all good with the portal.
Garen can run out of trouble with Q tho.
so if you bought the item and had no idea about this exploit and did NOT leave the game at any point, will there be consequences? i would hate for Zz'Rot Malzahar to only have been a thing because of a bug (pun intended)
hmm, i guessed being a pointless item with a silly name and a ridiculous concept that has no place in this game would have been a good enough one.

looks like I offended the 'bu...bu...bu...but alien baby jesus is going to descend from the heavens into our star portal anyday now and save us all from everything that's ever happened.' very good. how do you kind of people have internet access in the first place, anyway?
big surprise, the bugged out, OP item is even more OP given the right circumstances. hopefully RIOT will just delete gates and portals and be done with it. stupid additions.
I find Zz'Rot to be a very fun item, I get premades of 5, and we try to make a strategy around this item, slowly push mid lane and protect our portals while they take out the turrets for us. People say its just a way for bad players to win, but really it is just a new and fun strategy that puts the least amount of pressure on your team. It I don't use exploits tho, and when everyone rushes this item it means our team fight potential is next to nothing. There are pros and cons to every strategy and every item.

my problem are the little things they didn't test, aside from the disconnect bug and stuff like that. or if they did test them, it's real wonky.
for example, you can place the Zz'Rots on the other side of a wall by placing the item in the middle of a wall, if you get what i mean, thus extending the range superficially because it pushes out to the other side. by doing that, you can back door a ton of places. just seems like they didn't think it through entirely.
I'll give the item this--it makes for an interesting support item choice ;P but I don't know, it just seems too gimmicky for SR. I wish they would have just focused on improving the jungle experience, not all this gate/portal stuff. I agree the item is intrinsically interesting, and it's hard to find good tank items in SR as it is, but eh.
The push through the wall is true for all items that drop something with a relatively good range. You can do it with wards, heimer's turrets, Tibbers, Shaco's Jack-in-the-box, Nidalee's traps, Caitlyn's. Only exception to this is Teemo's Shroom because his cast range is too short to allow him to place it far enough into the wall for the engine to spawn it over the wall.

meh, guess you're right ;P. only difference being none of the other placeables like that really have moving damage and all.
eh. I just don't like these portals :P. but they're here, and I need to adjust I guess.
It's not even played most of the time anyway...
How does the team not consider that? How does junk like that come live? Let's make an item that scales off your mr / armor but not bonus mr / armor from people who dc. It's a no brainer come on bros! It's not a bug or an exploit it was just coded horribly to include the bonus stats a dc person got. The fact they call it a bug is shameful.
It is not working as intended, hence bug. I'd also wager a guess that PBE folk try not to hack like this because PBE is a privilege, but I don't know that for certain.
It is working as intended it includes bonus mr / armor hence not a bug. Whether it was intended to include a disconnected players bonus mr / armor is of little importance since the code they originally wrote did as it said it would. They just never excluded that bonus for whatever reason.
The code is functional, but Zz'rot Portal was never intended to give so much power to the Voidspawn (as evidenced by the fact that they are taking it offline to rework that bit). It was an unaccounted-for edge case, not an error in coding. The fact remains that it is an unintended, unwanted feature, hence a bug.
Forgetting to implement code that omits a disconnected players bonuses to a items scaling feature is not a bug. If you so much believe it you may continue responding in which I respect your devotion but let's focus on "real" bugs. It's purely lazy or an over sight. The team over looked this basic mechanic when bringing this item live.
When you make something that scales off of X you check all sources of X. Where does X come from? What impacts X aside from items? They should be properly organized to answer all these questions or even have a database that shows what they are asking. Accidents happen I am not saying it is a huge mistake. I just wonder how a widely known mechanic was not looked at when it came to this items function.
A real bug is when projectiles hit target champions hit box and only trigger 90% of the time. (sometimes this still happens not so much as it did back in 2009/2010). (not influence by latency) Projectiles literally were going through champions despite having made contact with a champions hit box.
From a mechanical design point of view, a bug is everything that happens that is not supposed to. Yes, overlooks are bugs in a way. Forgotten interactions are too. (While some are relatively easy to fix, some can cause a lot of trouble if the code's structure isn't made to allow it.)
This case is as much a bug as the fact that they had somehow made Challenging Smite to deal 'pure damage'. (Seriously, how did that happen... Somehow, someone at Rito Games mixed up pure damage and true damage and gave fountain-like damage to an item.)
Also, what you described as a 'real bug' is simply a 'large bug'. And most of the time, these can be a pain to deal with because these often take root in core mechanics of the game (ie. that collision box bug you talked about is caused in the physics/collision engine and object management, probably making it a pain in the butt to debug at due to the numerous triggers of those lines of code.)
Isn't the whole point of PBE to find things like this? It's a testing environment, they should test for exploits.
Yes and no. It's a test environment, but one that's more focussed at "every day bugs" and playstyle tests. Those only require you to play the game as intended. Technically, dc'ing like that is griefing (say if it doesn't work or if someone decides he doesn't like you dc'ing). And going for that kind of exploits is against the contract. Two things that can possibly get you in trouble.
As SecretAgentHulk pointed out, people on PBE probably are probably too affraid of loosing their PBE account to go against the EULA.
Upvote for mentionning that PBE folks probably don't want to go too far in trying to exploit things. It'S kind of unfortunate in this case, but you can't blame them.
What? You are asking the team to consider a situation that has been irevelant for every release/patch. And you expect anyone to remember that "hey! that detail that we never had to think about for 5 years has a weird interaction if you do something that you should never do in game!"?
Think about it, when it's bright daylight and sunny and there's not a cloud in the sky. Do you take the time to check the meteo just in case there might be a rainstorm coming? Becasue that's what you're asking.
That mechanic was not added back 5 years ago first of all. Secondly an organized team would think of that mechanic. Your comparisons make zero sense lmao. When you make an item that scales with X you search for all forms of X. Simple done closed easy. They more than likely have a database or resources available to them that inform them of this. If not they're more organized than anybody could have ever possibly imagined.
GG!
Did you even think before you posted?

Yeah I thought, Thank you. Did you think before you posted?
That's probably what they did. They sure have that database because we have it on a few websites as players. But why would they need to check it if, beside that single buff, there is no way any combination of items would give that much armor.
Or who knows, maybe they did patch it but there WAS a bug in the end. Riot clearly have other problem when it comes to standardizing (is that a word?) their work. That's nothing new.
To add to what Jevel said, I can tell you from first hand experience that when a project start to get any big, (when I say that, I mean that even at 5 people sometimes it happens.) changes made by someone sometimes don't make it at all in a version. Someone forgets to reinclude it before pushing his compiled code, someone overwrites it, who know! There is a few correct ways and a whole load of ways for it to go wrong.
the item doesn't know which lane is closer it just goes mid
I like Zz'Rot Portal personally. I just think it may need it's cool down increased to 180 seconds so it's not 100% up time and increase the spawn time to every 5 seconds from every 4 seconds.
Well it doesn't really have a 100% up time if someone just goes and kills it
well, assuming there is a way to stop it from scaling with players that have disconnected, seems like an easy fix.
I also can't imagine people exploiting this on their own to get freelo, because they have to leave the game to do it.
Maybe they'll change the "disconnect defense" bonus to something besides an AR/MR bonus. Maybe something like an invulnerability effect ala Kayle.
Or just give them damage reduction like Alistar ult how much damage reduction you would need i am not so sure.. it wouldn't make them completely invulnerable and it would be close to the same as getting 1000+ armor and mr
Their best bet would probably to add a part of code that ignore the DC Armor/MR instead of changing a mechanic for 1 item.
Seeing as they are probably using access keys in their functions anyway to prevent unwanted interactions, they can probably just look for the key while obtaining your Armor/MR.
The real trouble is when players gain % more Armor/MR.
WELL THIS VIDEO IS ABOUT LAST TIME ZZ ROT WAS DISABLED... LOOK AT THE GRAVES Q, CLEARLY PRE-ADCREWORK...
yes it is, so why did you dig out the thread?
