Why does Riot like dynamic queue so much?

I've got two questions for riot. It seems like every day I check the forums there are multiple posts about how dynamic queue is terrible and is ruining the game for a lot of players. Clearly the community hates the thing. A lot. I can't remember many times, or any times logging in and seeing people going on about how they love dynamic queue. If anyone makes a thread about "I love how great dynamic queue is" he's either going to get 200 downvotes in an hour or the title was sarcasm and the thread is really a litany of complaints. I've seen people suggest that it is causing players to leave the game and while I'd be skeptical about that claim, DQ might certainly be one contributing factor of many when a player leaves.

So here are my questions for riot:

  1. Why does riot like dynamic queue even when the community hates it? What evidence do you have that it is making the game better or is an improvement over the last system? Do you have any proof that you are willing to share that it is making the game better from an as-player perspective?
  2. If dynamic queue is so great, why aren't you guys in riot spending more time trying to sell the idea to people? I'm sure you guys don't like reading the boards and seeing people trash what you spent a lot of time and money in making. Maybe if you sold some of its upsides, people would be less hostile towards it.

Where are the evidence and reasons that DQ is better than SQ? Where are the system teammembers behind it at least trying to show the players some positives to the system instead of letting it fest as a totally negative thing? You guys know your new queue is a festering wound of public opinion right now and that as far as most players are concerned is contributing towards any frustrations they might be having with the game, right? Playing the ostrich isn't helping. Some things you have to run a little PR damage control on.

We know you guys are reading the boards.

So to us your silence could mean a number of things. Things like you don't care about what the players are saying, or you know we are right but for whatever undisclosed reason won't tell us that, or whoever is responsible for it is prideful and stubborn.

Now riot could just revert back to the old solo queue system. But you guys aren't. So logically speaking you've got reasons for staying on the path of the DQ. With that in mind I don't think it's unfair for us the players to ask riot be a little more forward about sharing your reasons and no "because reasons" isn't an answer, explanation, or proper defense of your position. Right now, to the player base your silence means the only reasons you guys have is "because reasons". That's not good and you guys can do better if you felt like it. The fact that riot isn't spending a little time now and then defending their DQ system speaks volumes and gives the playerbase free license to draw our own conclusions.

Keep in mind that the vocal majority, actually tend to turn out to be an overall minority in the game in general. For every person who complains about something--sometimes rightly, I'm not saying they're right or wrong--there are probably anywhere between ten and fifty times that many people who say nothing. Either because they don't have anything to complain about, or just don't want to say anything about it. Some of us have anxiety problems :P

And anxiety problems is why I personally like Dynamic Queue over ye-olde-champion select.

Is ranked groups of 3/4 a problem? Maybe. Probably. I definitely don't want to play against that scenario. Being reported by 3/4 people in a premade? Eh, so what. I'm sure my record is clean enough that it won't even stick if I did nothing. It's the whole voip thing that becomes problematic in ranked when you get a 3 or 4 man pre-made.

No point complaining about duo pre, because those were already a thing and probably a lot more common than you'd like to think before dynamic queue anyway. Solo queue never existed, per se, as there was always the ability and option to queue with at least one person.

ranked premades is the problem and it's why you see a lot of complaints. People sometime tend to mix dynamic Q with new champ select. New champ select is great but Dynamic Q is not.

Ranked is suppose to be competitive to show off your personal skill. The whole premade ruins any competitiveness that ranked ever has.

Honestly, Riot's effort to try and reduce the amount of flaming is good, but the new method of doing so just ruins the competitive side to league in soloq.

  1. Because it makes them more money.
  2. Because if it makes them more money, they don't have to.

They copied HoTS thinking it was a good idea.

I would assume it's because dynamic queue encourages more team play and a less hostile mentality going into ranked.

Back when solo/duo was the thing I couldn't tell you how many times I heard things like "in ranked all your teammates are idiots and you can only count on your self" or encountering so many people who wanted to just play the most op champ and carry a 1v9, you didn't really have team comp discussions with your team either, you'd ban your op form champs and pick your most comfortable carry.

Not that carrying 4 bad players on your back isn't a skill in of itself, it shows your ability to dominate lanes and farm or roam well, but there's more to league then that, and while dynamic queue ain't perfect (especially with the "us vs them" mentality between solos and premades in a team) it's got more teamplay and teamwork then solo Q ever had from my experience

Note I'm not the biggest ranked player, this is all stuff I've heard from other ranked players (guides and what not) and from my friends who I've played with when ever I did happen to play it

If you ask most players who have queued up with friends when they had the most fun playing league, they're going to answer when they were playing with their friends. I don't have friends who are free and into MOBAs right now, so I can't really say myself, but it's certainly the case for any other video game I can think of, excepting probably Braid and a few other particular individual games. It's also true that when you're playing with friends, you tend to have a lot fewer terrible moments. You have fewer trolls, fewer ragers, fewer disagreements in general, and if you have some of those, it's easier to get out of the game.

More highs, fewer lows. Of course Riot wants their game to have that. But what they're always up against is the queue time demon. They want to match you as close as possible to your ability, and to not wait ten minutes to find enough player to do so. So they only have so many queues up at once.

Frankly, I think that Riot could put solo queue up at popular times and bring it down overnight when fewer people play, but they've decided against that so far. Still, most League games I play are pretty fun, so I keep on playing.
