Now I understand why nobody likes playing mages mid....

I'm Malzahar, PUSH, PUSH, PUSH, MANA REFUND, MANA REFUND, MANA REFUND. Nullifies Harrass, does nothing in lane. Gets rewarded 3 plates if you try to recall thanks to his minion shredding towers.

Meanwhile other mages, No Mana, No Mana, No Mana.

People complain about Malzahar? Lol

Eh? I've played a lot of Malz and he has huge mana issues early.

Before he buys any mana items he will run oom rather fast and has to choose between pushing with E, Q, W on minions or poking the enemy laner down.

After he buys some form of mana his waveclear becomes more accessable (same for all mid laners) but it can still easily be stopped, a single AOE spell is enough to kill all 3 Voidlings or 3 autos will do. If Malz is pushing the wave that means he's not using spells on you which leaves him open to attack.

If he's focusing his spells on you his waveclear will be lacking. Avoid Voidlings when affected by Malefic Visions as they do all the damage early and try run forward instead of back when he E's to avoid the follow up Q.

Also if you think Malz pushes waves fast the rest of the mid lane roster is going to be a huge culture shock.

Malzahar does not have mana issues even early.

I’ve even tried playing Akali into that cancer matchup and he still outshoved me pre-chapter. Post-6 I wasn’t allowed to play. Even 1-shotting all 3 Voidlings with Q didn’t impede him at all.

Malz and Galio both have the most mana friendly brainless waveclear mid and shrug off harass with their passives.

Lolwut. What are you smoking dude? Clearly we all need some.

Malzahars EQ is one of the most expensive waveclear combos in the game. If hes shoving and you cant deal with it (for some reason... get good, really) you need to ask your jungler for help. Not every matchup should be a 1v1 "i always get a kill" like you seem to think youre entitled to.

I didn’t say I was entitled to it?

I was saying despite playing a manaless champion with some sustain, I was being outpushed despite dealing with all the conditions I could to stop Malzahars push.

You can live in denial all you want, that’s the fucking reality, try playing Malz mid, he doesn’t have any substantial issues pushing and mana.

You seem to forget his “expensive” costs are negated by runes and his E passive. Level 3 Malefic Visions can already clear casters with 2 autos.

akali is one of the worst choices for wave clear...try talon, zed, AP Chogath, really, even Corki has better wave clear than akali and you list that as one of malzahar's problems?

You think I picked Akali into Malzahar willingly?! Lmao.

All I’m saying is people in this thread pretending he has real mana issues early game when he doesn’t. Dealing with his Voidlings does nothing either, seeing as I resorted to that and failed to slow him down. OP isn’t wrong about the high level of mindless wave clear present in midlane again.

Anivia post-6, Galio all lane, Malzahar, Aurelion Sol. The only people defending this BS are Silver and below players who don’t go against people who understand how to abuse waveclear.

Edit: Corki is probably the worst choice besides Akali too, since Malz has a 61% WR against Corkis. Not sure why you pull him in your examples

I said that corki has better waveclear than akali... I would say that his waveclear is about equal to malz but not sure

non-mages are still the most popular champions in mid lane. if we account for all divisions, they are 7 of the top 10, gold plus: 6 / 10 , diamond+ : 6/10

What evidence do you have for these champions being a problem? Wave clear is a mage's job along with crowd control and area of effect damage

funny thing, assassins counter all but like 2 mages: anivia and malzahar, who are designed to have strengths against them but weaknesses against other classes or in general

Galio is not a mage, he is a tank with high AP ratios. He can be played in a mage-like fashion, particularly battle-mage, but he is a tank

aurelion sol is a very rare pick with his only strengths being: wave-clear and poke damage, one of which is out of favor now...

Malzahar is weak to counterwave clear, not assassins lmao.

Malzahar, much like Lissandra, are picked to counter assassins with their point and click disables.

What is going on in this thread?

quote, "assassins counter all but like 2 mages" which I should probably rewrite as "assassins counter all mages but like 2"

I'm wondering what is going on in general as this comment seems to be exactly what I said?

with recent changes though, i'm not sure how they work against battle mages such as vlad, swain, etc

What is this 'mana' you speak of stranger? Zed Yasuo Akali Vladimir

Like health, but you don't get it back just by pressing Q.

Mages are fine? LMFAO

idk where you get the idea that mages are like this, esp since they can rush luden's and not have mana issues ever again.

Scaling, lane bullies with immense wave clear shouldn't be able to do 50 full rotations of abilities before they recall.

what champions do scale when you never leave early and mid game?

Why are you bitching about malzahar? He has mana issues early and requires his voidlings to push at all, otherwise he burns mana on his Q.

Instead of whining like a scrub why dont you learn how to play against him? If hes shoving, pop his shield and ask your jungler to help.
If hes constantly shoving with his voidlings, kill the voidlings. They die in a single auto, or a single spell for most champions. If hes constantly harassing you... Dodge his easily dodged Q. If hes actually destroying you, ask your jungler for help.

Malzahar is a mana-hungry, immobile mage who simply cannot push as fast as most other non tank champions in the game. Hell, a BRAUM with a titanic hydra will clear faster than a malzahar unless hes got three uncontested voidlings.

3TWarrior1 votes

his minions die to just about any instance of damage, he can only target one opponent at a time except with his Q, he is entirely item dependent, he gets nerfed every couple of patches because riot refuses to admit that their "creative" or "unique" passive has too much weight in his kit for power, he loses probably every matchup against other mages

He was fine until riot "updated" him...in fact, almost all of their changes have been bad lately

VoraciousX1 votes

I disagree about mages mid having no mana(Malzahar is a mage btw), however I also disagree with everyone saying Malzahar has no problems with waveclear. Yes you don't need to just E-Q a wave and it dies, but you don't need minions to push with Malzahar. Just E a low health minion, auto the minion next to it, and let it keep rolling. It'll stop eventually, but that's when you Q, when it's about to stop. You can also E two minions at one at some point with no mana problems. And the people who act like Malzahar isn't powerful need to look at him on OP.GG. He's constantly been at the top of the list for mid lane champions for a long while now, even occasionally being the number 1 or 2 mid laner at times. I don't think he's been out of the top 10 mid laners all year.

i mean, malz you have to bully early because once he gets that lost chapter hes never running out of mana and your gonna get perma shoved, if hes still winning at that point while perma shoving its on your jger for not helping or you for not popping his passive so your jger can help

KirbyCake1 votes

The reasons mages suck is because most ad champions will stomp on them after their first back by buying a hex drinker. Without minions they get outdueled by everything else. Seeker's armguard is bought to be stomped less but you give up mana for that. MR is so much more efficient than armor so the enemy team can shut you down if you're fed by buying MR but buying armor does nothing against a fed AD.
