Meta-Locked (No Multi-Roles on Champ Reworks)

I have a question for Riot and I would like a serious answer please. If I only ever get to ask ONE question to Riot, it would be this. "Why are you trying to enforce the meta on EVERY rework you have done?". Riot has always taken the standpoint of not enforcing a meta in this game however several champion "reworks" have simply relegated them to ONE role when they used to be multi-role. You now can't take Zilean and Soraka and Sona anywhere OTHER then support because they lack the basic tools to make them GOOD and VIABLE solo laners. Some of us LIKED Soraka when she was able to go Mid and occasionally top but now she is just TERRIBLE if you take her in a solo lane. (Imo, she never needed changing, neither did Zilean because they had CLEAR TRADE OFFS FOR THEIR POWER, unlike Ekko Fizz Irelia Leblanc LeeSin Nidalee Riven .

So why exactly are you trying to DESTROY champion diversity. One thing I've always liked about League prior to Season 5 is that most champs (except ADC's) could fit into usually any role and supports were fun to play in mid. I've noticed you've never given Lulu a "rework" to make sure she stays support and doesn't go mid. Oh right... she's been picked in LCS... Well that explains it then.

Seriously Riot, stop gutting the ability of champions to be flexible. Hardly ANYONE picks Soraka or Sona now OUTSIDE the support role and that is just a tragic loss and has shown how Riot have sacrificed their own design philosophy. Too many of the new champs are JUST about ONE role and not multiple roles.

Azir - MID Kalista - ADC Braum - SUPPORT Bard - SUPPORT Gnar - TOP

Can we please have a BIT MORE DIVERSITY in how champions are used. Don't gut niche builds on some of the more popular characters because AT LEAST people are being unique and using their head then just copying LCS like sheep. Promote difference! Don't punish it!

Actually, Soraka was in need of a rework.

The fact that she could heal AND give mana, was what made Lucian Soraka so good in bot lane. Lucian just 1v2 the lane, and Soraka kept him topped off on Health and Mana. Lucian wasn't the only champion she could do that with either.

So yes Soraka was in need of a rework.

I mean, let's be real, if Riot makes a champion with a LOT of utility (i.e. supporty kit), and they're strong enough to solo lane, they're kind of broken. Because they now have a good amount of damage, AS WELL as a kit loaded with CC (Release Lulu anyone?).

So while Riot shouldn't enforce a specific meta (Tank Meta, Assassin Meta, Protect the ADC Meta, etc. etc.) They SHOULD solidify support champions to the support role. At least in my opinion.

I mean, let's be real. If I'm playing a midlane assassin, and I find myself against a midlane Sona, and she completely wrecks me because she has a heal, speedboost (to kite me with), and insane damage, AS WELL as an AoE stun... Yea, I'm going to be pretty salty at the end of the game.

Tbh, if you lose a game against one of the lowest healthed champions in the game as an assassin I want to hit you.

I'm pretty sure that Sona doesn't wreck a Zed or Ekko because although she has poke, both have rather large range and good safety.

And if either jump on her, she will explode into a fireball the likes of which this earth has never seen....very quickly.

Exactly, if an assassin gets hit by a Sona ult then they DESERVE to die. I mean seriously, I love it when assassin mains moan. They just want everything to have no CC and no way to counterplay their massive speed and mobility.

Diamondserpent

EXACTLY this... this is what's happened. Riot has listened to the salt from ASSASSIN MAINS who get hit by the odd stun, silence or other CC and are like "OMG NERF", remember thats exactly what happened when Sona got gutted. She wasn't "OP" at all, anymore then Zed or Riven is!

Because Talon would totally wreck a Sona. She just plays safe ENOUGH early on until she gets her ult and an item, then if Talon jumps on her when she goes in to Q harass, she can just ult him for the stun, heal herself, then Q powerchord auto and he's pretty much dead.

-_-

Maybe Sona just is a natural counter to Talon, have you considered that. Maybe wait until her ult has been burnt and then blink in, kill her, ult out. Easy as pie.

Lmao. Clearly you aren't good at talon. Talon probably can kill her the easiest. EWQRR she should be toast post six

But its ridiculous things like Soraka not being able to heal herself which just makes the champ near worthless in a solo lane. I never agreed with what they did to Starcall, it used to be unique, now its just another generic slowing skillshot however I agree with you on the mana issue, I believe that her silence though was targeted and only on one person and provided NO additional CC.

Yea, my biggest issue with reworked Soraka is her silence now... it does SOOOOOOOOOO much damage for being that large of an AoE, AND snaring, AND silencing... -_-

Also, I don't think Soraka SHOULD be able to heal herself, it's kinda like facing an AP Master Yi midlane back in the day. That and her heal gave armor as well, so if she was against an AD midlaner (or top on rare occasion), then she could heal up some damage while trading, AND gain the armor advantage. Was kinda ridic.

No more ridiculous then XinZhao or Vayne spamming lifesteal.

I've asked this same question myself before.

Riot kicks and screams and flails to add enhancements to the game (mostly ranked) because of the excuse "We don't want to enforce the Meta" but I'll be damned if they don't do it anyways with item and champ reworks.

The problem with the multi Role Aspect is that Riot has to balance around the most OP role. In the beginning, Diana was suppose to be the Primer, AP Jungler, Yet she got religated to her mid lane build because that started to become Oppressive. Ekko gets a free pass on this one because he's abusive no matter where he goes.

Soraka is a Victim of Riot trying to balance her around a core Identity. They tried to refocus her to be the primer Healer, And Healing isn't very effective in the Solo lane. (or if it was, it was for all the wrong reasons)

I don't think Zillian lost his duality though. The reason why Sona or Soraka can't mid is because they don't have wave clear. Zillian still has wave clear, though not very reliable. The Problem with Zillian is that he didn't get the Attention he deserves. They a) nerfed his Passive to remove the "hidden power" they were so feverishly hunting. b) gave counterplay to his point and click time bombs. and c) adjusted his time warp so that he was no longer an Ult bot. And while those are all fair reasons to change him, the Execution was poor. Leaving him no clear identity, Except for maybe a mage who can't land his bombs.

Based on recent champions, Riot is making some attempt to offer duality in their new champions.

Last note, I don't think having champs viable in multiple roles is what Riot means by Champion Diversity, Really they mean that all champions should have their place in the game. And actually the term they use is Strategic Diversity. Which is more like "you can take a Tank top lane, or a light fighter, or an Assassin, and you will still have a balanced team cause the Jungle/mid/ can do the same.

True, but I've never liked the forced meta. I like to try out new and different things and enjoy playing outside the meta. I just feel that these days the meta is more ENFORCED then ever if you actually want to seriously win as opposed to the previous seasons.

CreationFlaw1 votes

... I've taken braum top and smashed. Not really sure why you think everything is meta locked. Besides, people just want to win.

I mean, in terms of champ reworks, but recently, with the exception of Ekko and TahmKench which I am very happy to see can take multiple roles. I just think the most recent reworks on support champs have basically gutted them for use in any other lane but support and that is sad to see. I fondly remember how fun the old Soraka and Zilean mid were to play. I just feel sad that we've lost that.
