No cap on devourer?!

1 Wing··3 votes·3,136 views

Why is there no cap on devourer damage? It's reasonable that it starts at 40 damage, because of the cost, but then people stack an addition 90 damage onto it with their attack speed builds, oh, and also they're dealing true damage on hit with this smite.

How is this in the game? It's unreasonable that a capless devourer should have made it through beta.

takes awhile to get shit tons of stacks if u ask me

taking a while, or not, is irrelevant. It would take a while to buy four sunfire capes, but you're still allowed to only have one sunfire passive.

The damage provided from massively stacking devourer is too strok.

Massively stacking devourer.... hrm.. how exactly can you massively stack it.

I would consider massively stacked to be 200 stacks, so how exactly can you get that inside of a 30-50 min game?

You would need 100 kills fyi, But yes the Item does not have a cap so if theres a stale mate, the stale mate can be broken at some point and I think most players would quit by the time they played a 2-3 hour game anyway

I for one have never seen a player with 50/0/50 score

or even a 30/0/20 score that would only add 100 stacks = 140 damage

I consider getting 90+ damage onto this item, is massively stacked. An item giving you 50 damage is pretty top teir, and this item starts with 40. An item that grants 50% atk speed, and 130+ damage on hit, is pretty overpowered.

that takes time by the time they get 90+ damage the game is ending in the next 2-3 mins

yah, but if I bought 5 sunfire capes, then the game would still be ending in the next 2-3 minutes.

Devourer is strong during the entire time after you buy it. It just keeps becoming even more stronger as time goes on.

The proposed nerf of making it's initial damage 25 kind of sucks, because you have to put in so much gold to initially acquire it. Making the earlier portion of the game simply weaker isn't all that much of an answer.

There were 3 main issues with Feral Flare that Devourer doesn't have.

The number of camps required to transform Wriggle's Lantern into Feral Flare meant that many champions had to powerfarm early to get the transformation at a reasonable time, meaning they wouldn't be ganking lanes.
The on-hit healing scaled with your stacks, so some champions could powerfarm a Feral Flare to 40 stacks and have 50 healing on-hit
The damage tripled against monster camps and minions, so Feral Flare junglers could clear Dragon and Baron very quickly

Devourer has fixed most of these issues: it doesn't need to transform, it doesn't have any healing, it doesn't deal extra damage to monster camps, and it gives 2 stacks for champion kills and assists which incentives junglers to gank and teamfight more than Feral Flare did. These changes, combined with the increase difficulty of the jungle, camp spawn times, and experience changes to jungle monsters, have greatly improved the item.

On a side note has anyone tried useing it with Nasus jug?

New on PBE: Enchantment: Devourer Magic damage on hit lowered to 25 from 40

/sigh, still not the fix needed for this item.

Well it is a nerf and nerf is needed, even if a cap would make more sense. Are they doing anything about Challenger?

Skirmisher's Sabre Challenging Smite tooltip now reads "While Marked, basic attacks deal true damage over 3 seconds..."

Not sure how I feel about this... I like dots... but does the attacks stack on itself or does it refresh the dot? Could over all be a huge nerf.

1 Wing1 votes

it would be a refresh. So if you attack once, then one second later you attack again, they take a total of 4 seconds of the same damage tick.

It might be an over-nerf, but at the same time the thing is currently really unhealthy for the game, so I'm okay with it. Perhaps they will buff it back up if it proves to be too much.

I just want to point out that on regular junglers it really isn't super over the top, but if you smite in lane as Irelia or in the jungle, and you get the devourer enchantment, wits end, and whatever the hell as you want to get, usually one more as item and then pure tank, but you do 135 true damage + 82 magic damage on hit when you smite and activate Hiten Style at level 18, let alone that being the minimum magic damage. The fact that you add another 170 damage or so on that while being tanky, and it makes you unstoppable.

Thats why they need to change it. Really I wish they would take off the True damage and leave the damage reduction on the jungle item. It should be used as a safety net for junglers to use imo. Not like it is now.

Sukishoo1 votes

Well the Flare never had a cap on it, and since they are nerfing the damage (as seen on PBE) it's alright that it's pretty much unlimited.

TheFallenShaw1 votes

I'd be fine with it only dealing 25 magic damage. As long as it got a buff with something else...

dev enchantment

50% attack speed 25 magic damage on hit 10% life steal

Gains 1 stack for every large monster gains 2 stacks for every kill/assist

or maybe...

50% attack speed 25 magic damage on hit 10% life steal

Gains 1 stacks for every large monster killed

For ever stack enemys hit lose armor equal to stacks for 3 seconds. ( armor loss does not stack)

Just saying... Played a Shyvana jungle on 3's and I got my butt handed to me. It was not fun.

Devourer problem is not the infinite stack or base damage, it's the AS boost. Basically, it's a WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAy stronger version of Wit's End damage wise, and it's even less focused on jungle than the old Feral Flare(that caused toxic interations towards both enemies and allies cause forced junglers to afk farmlng for enormous time + at a certain point could give to the enemy jungler a huge powerspike), especially in combo with Skirmisher Sabre or Stalker Blade

Reduce the AS to 20 or 25%, and you will put devourer in check even keeping the actual base damage, because enemies would actually got lower DPS cause of the lowered AS and would need longer time to stack it cause especially at the start their jungle clear time would be lower than the actual one
