The Assassin Problem

Whether it's people complaining about the Zeds and Fizzes being too strong, or the removal of silences from Leblanc and Talon, assassins seem to be in an odd position. Should there be a general guideline Riot should focus on when designing more assassins in the future?

I see assassins as one thing: go in and kill one person safely (leblanc) or go in and kill a team with a lot of risk (kat to a degree) not akali who can go in and wreck a team and then hide and kill any survivors while spellvamping all damage taken

Im fine with them jumping in and out after a kill to me that is what assassins do going in and dying, thats what suicide bombers do

this is what im not okay with killing someone and kiling another and killing another and killing another they have the burst of a burst mage with the stamina of a bruiser

Make the CDs of their abilities increase with rank, rather than decrease. I strongly feel that an Assassin should, when played perfectly, be able to kill any one target in 2.5s at the most, no matter how tanky, then get out scott-free. BUT, they should be able to do precisely dick for 1-2min thereafter even with maxed out CDR. This inherently requires all Assassins to be "mages," be they AD/Physical, AP/Magical, or a hybrid. Carry-Assassin fusions like Akali, Yi, etc. are abominations.

I agree on Akali, and usually considered Yi more of a jungler than an assassin, however weird that thought it. What other "abominations" are out there? Not sure how to feel about a CD increase. Unless they gain even more damage than live with each rank imo.

K, should've specified that their abilities would receive a correlating increase in damage/ratios/applied CC/etc. Basically, I feel that all the Assassin Carries are abominations. A DPS (damage-dealing, not just damage over time) champ should not get strong burst and strong continuous damage. I'm an engineer, and so I look at champ design as an engineering effort. Within engineering, specifically Aerospace/combustion science, there;s an inherent trade-off between the thrust put out by a rocket engine and how efficiently that energy is released. The more thrust (force) the rocket puts out, the less efficiently the energy of the fuel is used. I see DPS champs in the same light. If a champ has strong burst, they should be paying a penalty in the overall damage output (this is all ready the general chase, hence ADCs mattering more than Mages as time goes on). Giving a champ the best of both worlds make them immediately outclass either of the more restricted DPS classes that were subjected to that trade off.

*Edit, as to Yi, remember that "Jungler" is really a specification of where a champ is usually taken, rather than their role within the DPS-Tank-Support spectrum.

By jungler I meant, once he comes out of it, I never considered him to be an assassin. Just a guy who runs in and kills half the team.

Lol. The thing about him being an assassin is the extreme speed with which he can get his damage out, and the great difficulty people have in stopping it. But I'll give that he;s still more of a melee carry than an assassin.

Chromatic Eagle1 votes

Yeah melee carry is what I meant to say.

Give them high risk high reward stuffs. None of this jump in and hit you, but be able to escape as well if things go badly.

So more champions such as Talon, or maybe Katarina to an extent?

SexyTaylorSwift3 votes

Yes. Kat is no where near as bad as everyone says she is.

Chromatic Eagle1 votes

Well who in your opinion has too much escape as an Assassin?

SexyTaylorSwift2 votes

Zed, LB, Fizz. Now, I'm not saying these champs are OP...just that they don't have much risk.

Chromatic Eagle1 votes

Fizz most would agree on. Zed I'm not too sure. If he doesn't kill anyone with his ult, he won't have any escape right? His shadow doesn't seem that bad. LB I'm surprised. I can understand double distortion, but her escape is mostly her passive which involves a lot of risk to activate.

It depends on what you think is risk really. For example if you think doing an entire combo and getting out is what defines risk, then assassins like Zed and LB really have no risk, Fizz maybe. But if you think risk as more of "What does the enemy need to stop you vs how safely can i get out" then assassins like Zed get higher risk as a simple item can stop them, while Kat and Akali usually require heavy CC and focus to shut them down despite jumping right into the enemy team, and they really need to get 1 kill to simply get out.

staaatitiscally... iirc Kat has the highest pentakills.....
