Add a moving bar to the loading screen for when it crashes

^ So annoying when you don't know if it crashed or not then come back like 5 minutes in.

{quoted}

hold ctrl alt delete and select task manager you can see if the process is not responding (or any process for that matter)

Thanks to TheVishual for this^^

People have in the past suggested some sort of visual indicator, whether that be a loading bar or a moving gif.

I'll just leave this here :3

Yeah I have this happen fairly often, as far as I can tell everyone is just waiting for that one person to load who has been at 27% for the last 3 minutes, but then I get suspicious and restart the loading process only to get the "you have been disconnected, please check your internet connection" message 7 or 8 times before it lets me load into the game.

Dan Abnormal1 votes

if you close the game in loading screen to restart in, you won't be able to reconnect to the game until the game is ready to start, from my experience anyway

Kairya5 votes

How small our wishes have become.

Others would demand a fix to the whole problem, or at least an automatic reconnect after the crash. But no, we are fine with moving bars.

tap the Esc key every 10 secs or so if it looks to be frozen. If you crashed it will bring up the dialogue box letting you know so without having to do anything else (has no effect if you did not crash).

Saved me a few times once I learned the trick, can manage to find out and reload the game fast enough to not miss anything except maybe a crazy lv1 fight at 30 secs in dragon pit because goddamnit soraka stop trying to drop an aggressive jg ward vs a blitzcrank >:(

Once upon a time you saw the ping of everyone in the load screen, which made it pretty easy to know if someone was lagging and delaying the match. Now though, it's just a guessing game.

instead of doing that why wont rito just spend the time and effort to improve the clidnt ao it wont crash

They are actually developing a new client. Or that's what they said a short time ago.

Seems like that would be easier said than done. I know Riot has pros but... they might not even know a piece of the problem of what's wrong let alone enough to know what to do and fix it.

though i agree it's pretty bullshit that this is still even an issue and isn't implemented already

Thanks! I knew about the whole "responding/not responding" thing but I'd never thought to use it with League. :)

You can see if your ping indicator is moving or not. Then you know if it has crashed or not.

But it doesn't always move, sometimes it stays still and I think it crashed, so I get out and come back to actually be late because the game had to reconnect like 5 times before it finally got in game and I lose a minute or two for nothing.

rtbf2061059051 votes

I'd just pretty much wait it out until it moves. Noone has a steady X ping.

Bhagswag1 votes

I do.

rtbf2061059051 votes

24/7?

Lucky..

Bhagswag1 votes

Lol, it's steady, but not "perfect". I get about constant 55-60 ping. Good enough for me, but I know the difference it makes from 20 or 30 ping that some people have.

rtbf2061059051 votes

Mine fluctuates from 60 - 80. No noticeable differences though.

You're supposed to look at the number on your portrait. there should be a colour dot with a number beside it, the lower the number its green, higher its red, I think its ms or ping but idk, if that doesn't change for a long time its probably crashed, however this is an extremely good idea.

Yeah but a lot of times my ping just sits at one place for awhile because the Internet connection isn't really changing much. Its kinda good but sometimes it sits there and scares me and sometimes I even miss time because I think that it crashed when it didn't.

Yeah its really annoying.

small majority

Still the majority m8

  • The computer isn't the problem. It's a software-based issue. I had it a couple of times too, like once every 3 or 4 months.

  • The additional problem is, by having it once you get paranoid everytime it takes long to load.

  • This isn't that big of a change is it? Adding a small animated picture in the screen?

  • You probably meant minority? If so, then it's not that really correct. The client isn't 100% bug-proof, nor are most other games. So a crash is a possibility.

  • Asking for Quality-of-Life changes is good.

Several problems with that.

  1. Better computer doesn't help. This happens to everyone, even the pros.
  2. To go with "This happens to everyone," its a LARGE majority, probably most of the League community.
  3. Its not even a big change. They implement a small GUI at the bottom of the loading screen that constantly moves and WAAWWW suddenly its fixed. And 4. Wtf, you expect me to pay thousands of dollars for a new computer with none of my old downloads that will probably take weeks of constant downloading because of one small problem with one game? LOL.
RasCaelestis2 votes

I've got a really high end PC. I built the thing myself, so I know what it's capable of. League crashes just as frequently on that as it does on the low-mid tier laptop I got for work.

I can run most games with no issues. League gives me more trouble than anything I've played in the past year.

King of Mongoose1 votes

you obviously didn't build it well enough.

go optimize your computer.

RasCaelestis1 votes

The problem isn't a hardware issue, it has to do with the game's software. Regardless of what we do to our individual computers, if there's a glitch in the way the game is coded, we can't do much -if anything- on our end to fix it.

How much of a machine do you recommend? I have crashed before and run, amd quad core 3.1ghz or 3.3 (can't remember), 32 gb ddr ram, 1gb ddr vid card.. Cable connection. Thinking the client is as at fault as someones machine. I only say that because I come from a great, yet poorly optimized game Tera, and it runs like crap unless you have the perfect intel set up that is overclocked.

We playing league not bf4, not sure what your point is

Bhagswag1 votes

Let's see if I can help see you through your blindness. Read slowly if you have to.

I can play battlefield 4, one of the most graphics and computer intensive games on the market, at more than 60 frames per second on highest most detailed graphics settings. The problem is not MY computer, it League of Legends.

MrSlowDie1 votes

yes please, I was waiting for about 5 minutes. I thought it was normal because I had a longer waiting time before. But then I did an alt-tab, and there was an error popup. The hell? I wait for nothing! So I reopen the client, and found myself 8 minutes late in the game.

Agreed. Granted, I can watch my ping, but there are times it won't move for a bit. That being said, even on a stable cable connection, my ping will fluctuate between 28-33. No matter how stable, it moves a bit every 15-30 seconds even if it moves only 1 point. It would be nice to see a little dancing icon or something though. The other night, AFTER all 10 players were at 100%, the game still took a good 1-2 minutes to load.

This has been suggested before, but honestly the loading screen freezes right in the middle of the loading process anyway, so that means the loading bar or picture or whatever will freeze as well.

The only real solution would be to leave the client home page open, and have IT notify you if your game crashes.

Yeah... That's kind of the point of the useless moving bar. It'll stop moving if it crashes... lol.

Theres also the problem of the game taking a year to load half the time. Meanwhile, Smite, a competitor MoBA, has superior graphics and systems, and it loads very fast. Much faster then League of Legends, and from a consumer stand point there should be no reason for it to be so. League's graphics are far inferior to Smites, and should load way faster.
