What do you want from ADCs?

You don't want the entire teamfight to be about protecting your ADC. Fair enough.

You don't want to be a shield bot for the ADC. Fair enough.

But you still want adcs to be team reliant and squishy? This is what confuses me. You want adcs to be team reliant and squishy, but you yourself don't want to have to protect the adc.

The answer to this is obvious. Adcs need to be less team reliant in exchange for some late game damage.

But what items do people want nerfed.item 3812 item 3026 item 3156 item 3046 and lifesteal in general. These items are what allow adcs to be self reliant. DD is what allows Adcs to counter burst and lifesteal themselves back up. These items are what are needed in order for you to not have to protect the ADC. And if the enemy is building right, they can't go 3 crit items like they may want to. I see less and less people buying armor and that's what allows ADCs to go triple crit.

Pick your poison. Do you want ADCs who need their team to protect, but are effective when they do get that protection? Or do you want to not have to cater to the ADC and give them some self reliance.

I protect the damage .. if my ADC is trash I'm protecting anyone who is ahead and can carry the fight.

Alright that makes sense. The problem that I have is when I see people complaining about how they have to shield and protect the adc all the time...even if that adc is carrying them, as the name attack damage carry implies.

You should protect the carry. [slayer-pantheon-thumbs]

{quoted} You should protect the carry.

there are other types of carries than marksmen.

honestly what i want most is for marksmen not to be mandatory in every single game and be interchangable with other carries.

I'd pick the self reliance, the main frustrating thing about ADCs is when the whole game revolves around them

I agree with that. The problem is that in that case, lifesteal certainly needs to exist, or ADCs need more options to defend themselves.

I think I'd rather have the latter, due to the way the math works out it compounds their problem of having an out-of-whack power curve. Maybe more situational tools (Like an AD Zhonyah's for example) would feel nicer to play against than "Hope that your damage doesn't get outhealed"

I think you miss represent the situation.

Mid lane players, junglers and top laners want ADCs to be more team reliant. This is because they want to have someone to dominate and kill on the other team.

Top laners want to have an engaging experience in the top lane (rather than poke and kite spamfest), followed by a well pronounced high point of zerging some poor schmoe and deleting him 24/7.

Mid laners want a clear roam target to go and kill, an alternative to the static stay in lane and push from across the aisle that lets them play the map from a position of strength, again followed by a pronounced high point of having some guy with a bulls-eye painted on him and not enough stats to fight back.

Junglers.... same story.

Supports are in a different boat. They want to participate in the game from the position of not being dedicated bodyguards. They want to make plays on the enemy jugnler, to call and lead plays, to choose who they want fed in their team and make it so.

The people who want ADCs to be vulnerable dependents who need their supports 24/7 are not the same people who want ADCs to be independent. So, from my perspective I definitely picked my poision - but i have to fight over my perspective against all them talon and rengar players.

What this tells me is that the other lanes want the adc to be a punching bag. I really don't mean to sound aggressive, but that's what it sounds like to me. But why would anyone want to play that kind of champion? Doesn't sound very fair to me.

the other lanes want the adc to be a punching bag

That is exactly the case.

But why would anyone want to play that kind of champion?

Because every champion gets to be unfair in a different way. For ADCs, that way is "sustained burst". or in other words, if the other guy fails to kill you for whatever reason (mostly because you have peels and shields and heals coming in), you get to sustained burst him, and then you get to sustained burst his team mate, and his other team mate and so fourth.

For the supported, well farmed ADC, the enemy team is composed of 1 opponent, and 4 punching bags. And he's not fighting his opponent, he's racing him for the prize of who punched the 4 bags first.

Doesn't sound very fair to me.

nobody wants to play a fair champion. A fair champion is one who's every move is contested and every result is subject to the other guy's ability. This isn't a fighting game where all characters are equal - people expect to be able to shit on the other team, or at least on some of it's members: and the game is designed specifically to enable this.

Fair enough. The problem that I see is between the support and adc.

The support doesn't want to be a dedicated bodyguard, but that's exactly what the adc needs to not be a punching bag.

You can't have both, unless you make adcs less team reliant, which would in turn make them not punching bags.

In the end this is a question of balance and measure. Because we do want people to play ADCs and supports.

As a support player, I want to shit on people too. The enemy ADC is not a good target because then im just even with the enemy support. So my targets are the enemy mid lane and the enemy jungler and those are the players my job is to shit on.

So it's not just a question of ADC vs Support. Being free from body-guarding isn't worth much if I can't have the alternative of engineering plays on the mid lane and jungle. So I need the enemy mid and jungle to be voulnerable to roams (=not hyper mobile assassin that can just turn on me kill me and GTFO) to some extent.

i want 2 things:

adcs to be a lot of different classes rather than ONLY marksmen, i don't want marksmen to be unviable, just give me the option to lane against them as a skirmisher/diver (like kled/irelia)/juggernaut/battle mage ect..

second thing is the adc (marksmen or any class) should not be unkillable an assassin, or an other diver like renekton should be able to kill them in a teamfight, instead of not being able to kill an ashe who's 3 lvl below him due to knight's vow+phantom dancer+censer healing+tons of shield/heals

The problem is that there is a fine medium that needs to be found. At what point should shields be strong enough to stop an assassin, and when should an assassins damage be enough to overcome a dedicated shield support.

The thing is, I think a dedicated shield/healing suppport should be able to defend an adc from an assassin. Shields at least should be the counter to burst. It's also a more team oriented action, which should be rewarded. Playing with your team in mind should be rewarded in a team based game.
