[Question] Could someone tell me why Sustain almost has no effect against champions?

Unless you're playing the following: Vladimir DrMundo

Almost any kind of sustain (Lifesteal or Spellvamp) has no effect against Champions, but it sure works against minions to the point where it seems like it's amplified by twice the original amount.

Guess Grievous Wounds can be to blame due to it being everywhere these days...

Because Champions build armor/mr so you deal less damage to them than you deal to a lane minion

Only adding to what karolmo said, there is also the fact that sustain heals for only 1/3 of the Damage dealt on AoE abilities and, generally speaking, when using AoE on minions you will hit 6 targets, while rarely you will hit more than 2 champions with the same ability, so the numbers can decrease pretty fast.

Grievious Wounds was plastered a bunch in recent years with average effects. Exe came back so it could get upgraded into a LW item, which honestly was healthy considering it helps AD users deal with the likes of Vlad, Mundo, and Nasus during the lane phase and it can be upgraded later on to ignore armor. Meanwhile mages got it in a upgraded Morellonomicon, allowing them to effectively counter something they should be weak to and avoid specialize building an item for it instead (it gives pen and hp, two stats a good chunk of mages love to have).

Thorn should have it removed since if everyone and their mother can obtain Wounds, tanks no longer need it (opens up for the reflect damage to be increased, making it a better anti auto item) on this item.
