Skip Jungle Items on Ivern

Post Edit TLDR: Hunter's Talisman provides bonus mana regen and bonus special exp from clearing camps, but the completed jungle items don't provide as much utility as other "normal" items. Because of this I feel that skipping the jungle item completely may be a viable option.

Also Hunter's Potion QoL could be improved by activating a charge after freeing a camp when full.

You honestly don't need a jungle item with Ivern because you are not damaging or killing jungle monsters.

I believe you are actually better off starting with boots or just rushing some other form of sustain item.

Alternatively you can start with a more aggressive item to help with your ganks, but jungle items simply aren't necessary.

Also, I'm going to need to test it again, but I don't believe Hunter's Potion works either. When "freeing" a camp, I don't believe I remember seeing it add a charge or activating a charge when full. If someone else has tested this also, feel free to confirm or correct me.

Edit:

I went back and tested it.

You do not gain level 2 from "freeing" the first camp without having item 1039. You gain about 50%

However, I will double check to see if you do get level 2 with it. I'm not certain that you do. I would be surprised if Hunter's Talisman gives you a bonus 50%, if anything. The passive description says "killing" monsters grand special bonus experience. You are not killing the camps, so I don't think it should.

Even if it does, fine. You are still getting a component item toward a jungle item, which ultimately will be inferior to other items. I still say skip it and get something that will help you in the long run.

As far as being "under leveled" ... I don't really see it. You have great clear speeds and a strong understanding of his kit will lead to greater lane pressure more frequently, meaning more exp from ganks.

Now, for the Hunter's Potion, I was correct about it not activating a charge, but I was wrong about not gaining a charge.

So what that means is in order to get the most use of Hunter's Potion, if you are about to "free" a camp and you have 5 charges, you should activate a charge first so you get it right back.

Honestly though, I think Riot should just have it activate a charge automatically. In fact, I'm going to make a new post about that now.

Edit #2

Hunter's Talisman does give additional exp, however as I said before, the final jungler item does not feel as impactful as other items would.

The fact that he hits level 2 after the first camp didn't really make much difference because in both games I hit level 3 at about 3:00 into the game.

I honestly feel like the experience difference will come from your ability to make effective clear patterns and pressure lanes than having Hunter's Talisman does.

IIRC, you still need Hunter's Talisman if you want to get the bonus experience from monster camps.

If you don't take it, you will be under-leveled for most of the game.

Also, it has the added benefit of restoring your mana as you walk through the jungle.

It's for the extra exp.

I actually don't think you get any extra exp either because you don't kill the camp

You do get bonus xp from the items.

Try killing one camp with and without the item.
