Tank Mains: how did you find your role?

Whether starting a teamfight as a Vanguard or protecting squishy carries as a Warden, Tank mains are an important yet surprisingly quiet bunch. I want to know: what brought you to playing a Tank in League of Legends?

So many people want to be super flash and score tons of kills and offer nothing to their team in return and blame everyone else for not starting a fight. I, however, have always appreciated the more subtle ways of bringing the pain to the enemies. That feeling of walking towards a Lucian ulting and just eating every single bullet without stopping is something no flashy carry can do, and boy is it ever satisfying to be that giant, buffed beast.

Also, the one thing I've learned from playing support is that the only thing squishies are good at is finding the fastest way to kill themselves. Hence why I love tank-supports like Braum and Tahm Kench.

Juggernauts feel the similar, that impressive steady march into their team, but being able to bury whoever's in the way.

Also agree about braum and tahm, but kind of a problem when they're some mobile champion and keep running from you, though still amusing in a morbid sense.

To be honest tank mains are either the silent heroes or minimalist when it comes to finding rewards. Like the friend who likes to see their friend succeed at what they do, while providing a helping hand when they can.

Even though when i play Solo I stray away from tanks when top, I usually look and ask what my friends are playing. So versatile champions that can adjust on the fly or even in the last seconds of drafting are best for me. My fave pick has been and probably always be J4. A simple champ design , yet a versatile one. Assassin, bruiser, tank or the always fun support aura tank build . Either way i find a way to squeeze the pick into the team comp and provide what is lacking to the best of my abilities. Any versatile tank is always on my mind. They may not be the best at any of the roles but my team will not be caught lacking peel and protection.

other champs I can flex with Are Naut, Maokai, Shen or Poppy.

Most of the above is redundant but I'm too lazy to edit at 4 AM. Sorry

The reason I like playing Jarvan is how flashy and attention-grabbing he is, for a tank. He’s more likely to draw followup from his teammates than any other tank.

We´re too busy bending over for bullshit bruisers and their broken keystone.

Lack of trust.

Whenever I play a carry, I can’t seem to trust people to protect me. When I’m not in a carry role, people go out of there way to make dumb decisions that get them killed. As a tank I can’t stop them, but I can at least make sure they have a better chance of survival.

And instant regret when the 4/16 ADC got all honours because of the quadra kill you set up for him at baron.

Nah. No Regret. I know when I play a tank I most likely won't be getting honors at all.

My best friends last name from elementary school was 'Shenn'. So Shen kinda caught my attention, cuz of the emotional link, pretty early and I fell in love with his gameplay and lore. Actually I'm more the 'on my own' type a person but with Shen I just wanna help my team and protect my carry. This champ changed my whole attitude xD And everyone just seems to underestimate his dmg. With maxed Q its legit insanely high, despite building full tank

Well it was it was Leona for me. I liked her kit because she goes in, she beats the shit out of the enemy with auto attack reset stun root and walk out with 100 hp like a lady boss. In general I like to dive the enemies, and fight like a SPARTAN in close quarter battles for eons cause enemies dont have that high dps. In that aspect i love and main Alistar support when the comp needs it

When I played top I mained Maokai because I watched MaRin (back when he was still in SKT) shitting on every1 with that champ. Just that. And the other champ I mained was Shen, because I had issues with deciding on how to use my tp (to get back to lane, to save it for a tf etc.) so Shen's ult helped me out on that. In general liked toplane because the lane phase was slow on top so I could take my time farming myself up and trying to read my opponent so I can outplay him.

My favorite tank to play is galio, and I can say with certainty that nothing makes me as happy as saving my entire backline because of my w/e/r and watching them do well

Tank had been my go to role for a long time. I always enjoyed the heavy armor, aggro soaking, defensive type of characters. My first tank was Malphite cause, well, a creature literally made of rock! Couldn’t get better than that to me.....then I met Shen, then Maokai and Sejuani, and lastly my boy Ornn.

It was a mix of diving into fights, controling them, and soaking up the attention for my allies to do what they needed, and protecting my allies on the defensive side. I tend to flex between Vanguards and Wardens, cause I enjoy them both and the different possibilities with each, from long range Maokai and Ornn ult engages to Poppy hammer disengages.
