Zyra Ult Suggestion

Zyra is a great champion and I love her, but her ult is very meh. While she is bursty and it does speed up her plants I believe her ult is still lacking one thing...

A slow.

Speeding up her plants and causing a knock up is great, but with the high mobility of all the common champions it is extremely easy to avoid the knock up completely even if you root them first. It's width is easily flashed. Easily dashed and tumbled, etc.

I think adding a slow would give her a good boost that she needs. Plant range isn't very far even if the ult increases their attack speed. Giving the ult a slow would provide possibilities to secure kills better with plants (if solo laning) and would provide an effective means of actually getting of a meaningful ult when you are support/in a team fight.

This is why Rylai's is a worthy item for her. Her spell damage is all AoE so triggers the reduced slow, but it works nonetheless. That's if her E is not enough root for you.

15% slow is hardly even noticeable and not that effective. It will help your faster teammates catch them but not keep them from escaping a knockup.

If the Root, Slow, and huge radius is not enough, then that is just unfortunate; you can't get the knockup every time. It does have to have a weakness, but that weakness isn't really that bad. Without it she's simply OP and probably would completely replace Orianna in mid (or rise to a 60% pick/ban combo with her as Support Zyra). Maybe it could use some help, but it's not that big a deal. If you're running Support, use it to disengage rather than engage because it blocks off an entire lane. If you're mid, the damage is done instantly so still has use if you can't land the knockup.

Yep. Liandry's Torment and Rylai's Crystal Scepter are core items on her. It's true that most of her spells are AOE spells, so they only give a 15% slow. However, her plant shots are considered single target attacks, so they apply the full 30% slow on enemies. Assuming that you throw out a full combo with your ult, you should be able to snare and/or slow enemies enough for your ult.

Besides this, where Zyra really shines is in team fights where you wait for the enemy to engage on a front line teammate and then you blast them with the full combo. I often get my ult on 4+ players that way.

I always build Rylais and it's not that effective at all. I always get my ultimate off on plenty and do the base damage but the knock up is easily escapable, which is the main point. The knock up is more important than the initial damage in a teamfight, especially if you are support. And from what I noticed her plants don't proc rylais although they do proc liandrys. . Unless I'm just blind to measly 30% slows compared to most others 60+ %..

It's actually quite effective. You just need to watch for it. Yes, her plants proc the 30% slow from Rylai's, which is great, because once you build it, you can use your Q plants to slow enemies down as much as the E plants do -- and the Q plants have a much greater range. Also, my comments were regarding getting enemies to take the final knock-up from your ult. Yes, you're right that people can often run out of the ult range if you just cast it alone. That's why you need to be more selective about when you use it. Obviously, the best case when alone is to snare someone, while simultaneously popping your E plants, and having your ult go off. However, even better is finding the right moment in team fights where the enemy engages on your team's front line and then you can get your ult off on multiple targets. Often at that point, the enemy team has already used their mobility skills on their initial engage, your teammates have often thrown down some cc of their own, and you have your Rylai's Crystal Scepter slowing everyone down, too. Done properly, you can ult and knockup 3-4 enemies in team fights and turn a fight or even an entire game around.
