Why not give Gnar's three hit passive a cooldown on targets?

Like Yasuo's dash or Nautilus's passive. What are these called? Internal cooldowns?

Why not do that to Gnar's three hit passive? It might actually give people more of a window to fight him.

Because then he would be useless. If you play Gnar you'd realize that without his W always up he is useless. His cooldowns early are absurd. Nothing in his kit is constant early game except his W, and if you take that away he would be useless. I'd recommend you go try Gnar and focus on your damage early, because his W is so important to his early game. You have a window to fight him the whole game. His mini form has a high cooldown unreliable escape (very short dash unless you bounce) and is extremely squishy. He can try for a speedboost with his W, but that's not an escape. His mega form is slow, but he can jump away. His W+Q combo stuns you for 1.5 seconds and he has to wait over 5 seconds to get any spells back. That means in one trade, if he goes in, you have a 3.5 second window to attack him. Mini Gnar has an 18 second cooldown on W before CDR at rank one, and his Q is 20 seconds at rank one without catching the boomerang, it's 10 seconds if he catches it and forces him to predictably position. What do you mean there is no time to fight him?

Usually because he's far enough that unless you have a good gap closer he can forgoe his Q to back off and just last hit until then.

And once he gets smaller it's basically impossible to fight him with his W procs.

Impossible to fight a squishy as a bruiser? With a bad version of Vayne's W as the reasoning?

Yeah cause getting slowed while he gets a movement speed boost totally doesn't make it difficult.

And Gnar doesn't build squishy.

Mini Gnar has low resistances and the 400 hp from black cleaver isn't making him an exceptional tank. Late game he won't be dealing much anyway, he's gonna try to stall for mega form to unload his combo. Mini Gnar also has no hard cc and most bruisers have a way of getting to him.

Gnar has the highest health regeneration stat in the game by a long shot. Comparing him to Vayne is rather silly since her stats are really bad.

health regen? I don't think that's the most important stat here. His health regen used to be so low he was near unviable. No relevance on this discussion but I remember when mini Gnar had the lowest health regen in the game... it was horrible, you wouldn't even poke because if they engaged you wouldn't get much health back, and you'd transform and watch the health regen with tears in ur eyes

gnar has a slow, a speedup and a dash since level 3 but apparently his easy to catch n fight?

Because mini gnar is relatively short ranged and generally auto attacking anything 3 times will almost always result in him taking some creep aggro. If I may propose something different, I'd suggest removing the interaction where his Q procs his W passive.

Id be fine with removing Q W interaction.

Better yet, just rework Frozen Mallet. Whenever Gnar is viable, Frozen Mallet is ALWAYS the issue that makes him unfun to play against.

Why not give Gnar cooldowns?

Gnar's W with a cooldown would need to be DRASTICALLY buffed. It is way too weak otherwise.

The real problem isnt his W. its Frozen Mallet. His chase is already strong with Hyper, but with Hyper + Frozen mallet, a 2 item gnar can NEVER be run away from. if he gets a hit off on you, thats it, you have to fight him or youre gonna just run down to death.

I am fine with this so long as vayne gets an internal 3 hit passive CD as well.

Vayne doesn't thrive in a lane where people generally have shorter range than her and also doesn't have spammable slows.

Unlike Gnar, Vayne's laning phase isn't obscenely safe.

So what your saying is arbitrarily crippling an important part of a champions kit is unfair? if you think you can justify doing it for gnar but not vayne then your logic here is fundamentally flawed or biased as both are really oppressive after 2 items for much the same reasons in the end.

Static Cooldowns EDIT: My bad, static cooldowns are CDs not reduced by CDR. In-target cooldowns I think

What they should do is delete Frozen Mallet. Thats the problem.

gnar is my go to top laner and ill never build that item because it just makes the skill required to play gnar plummet

I think a cooldown on the movespeed is warranted, but to put it on the damage would just make it feel bad. Remember that it takes up a skill slot unlike ekko's where it's his passive. Maybe it would work if it was a really short cd, but it would still feel awful to use.
