Let's have a second trinket slot...

... just for item 2043 and remove them from the shop. The new trinket holds only 1 charge, which is restored every X minutes. Being unable to buy wards at all, the fight for the vision control is much more relevant and the map is consistently darker. You also don't need to keep an empty item slot for a consumable throughout the entire game (which is a problem both in mid game, when you have many small components, and in late game, when you're full build and there's no more room for a pink). On top of that, champions with stealth mechanics aren't countered by an item that costs only 75 gold and can be bought whenever you want. They're still countered by true vision, but it's up to the enemy champions to use their item 2043 wisely. For example, if I use it to ward a river bush in mid, I won't be able to see Akali in her shroud, so either I have to wait for someone else to come and help me or I have to keep my true vision trinket for the time when I really need it.

It's exactly for the example you brought up that this would never happen. You would render certain champions absolutely useless if you give their opponents a free pink ward to just place at your whim. Akali Evelynn Khazix Shaco Teemo MonkeyKing Would have an immediate disadvantage... for free.

they can get oracle tho

Blitzedlegend3 votes

It still doesnt reveal them, pink wards give true sight, oracle's gives where they are

La Barbotte7 votes

i meant the invis champ can get the oracle thing to disable pinks, to counter the fact that we get a free pink trinket

CheftoniFTW1 votes

Pink wards aren't disabled by Sweepers, only trinkets or wards.

La Barbotte1 votes

i know, but they could do so if we get a free pink trinket

Oracle counters Akali. Because she is in the red circle you know where to use it. Then you just drop AoE or a skill shot.

Every other champion has been put at an immediate disadvantage, for free... item 3361

Only at lvl 9, where usually the rest of their team is with them during a teamfight, so it's fine. Besides, they could use sweeper on those, rendering them useless.

AMYS GRAVE1 votes

dont need to be lv 9 to have a pink and dont need a sweeper to destroy a pink. If it gets swept then you know someones there doing the sweeping and the ward has done its job.

CheftoniFTW1 votes

I meant for the trinket to be upgraded to show invisible units. And a sweeper would cancel that particular kind of trinket. As for sweeping giving away that someone's there. You dropped the ward BECAUSE you know someone's there (Using Akali as an example). Akali drops shroud, you drop trinket, Akali uses sweeper to cancel out trinket. You drop pink ward, Akali backs off and waits for the pink ward to be destroyed. Repeat until target is dead.

Akali uses her Shroud which is one of her 4 abilities. You use a 75 gold item negating her ability. Akali now has 3 abilities.

^^ not a good idea

The pink ward is not on cooldown, once destroyed, you need to buy another one. Akali just has to destroy the ward and wait for her abilities to get off cooldown to try again.

True, but everyone would have 1 late game and a full build. Every champ with an invisible ability would be doomed.

AMYS GRAVE1 votes

If you know someones there why bother with the ward? you ward where you are unsure of enemy presence.

CheftoniFTW1 votes

Ok. Maybe I wasn't clear. Imagine you are up against an Akali. You would save the pink for when she throws her shroud, making her visible and debuffing her. Or say you get the "!" above your head, you drop a pink to see who's there. Wards aren't used exclusively for vision or vision denial. They have other uses.

But you have to make a choice now: do I want to use my only pink to ward or do I want to use it for countering their stealth? If I misuse it, I won't be able to buy another one for several minutes, therefore I need to be very careful. This mechanic would give those stealth based champions more opportunities to make plays. They would also be able to bait the pink and then punish the enemy really hard, if they're smart enough. Right now, pink wards have no cd and a small cost and you can have them in your inventory as long as you have an empty slot. This doesn't feel good for anyone: if you're the one with the pink, you're annoyed by having to leave an empty slot for them, which feels like a chore; if you're the stealth-based champion, instead, you have virtually no windows of opportunity as long as the enemy has a pink in his inventory.

CheftoniFTW1 votes

Which is why it's useful to buy multiple pinks. (As a support, I tend to have ward fights with the enemy support, so I buy usually 2 or 3 pinks. Besides, your inventory being full is only an issue late game, in which case, you could upgrade your yellow trinket to show stealthed units.

XIII Vanitas1 votes

Having multiple pink decreases the value of true vision, prevents stealth based champion from making cool plays and it's A LOT forgiving when you fight for vision control and lose. I don't want that. I would want pinks to have higher value by gating them with long cooldowns and making them not purchasable in the shop.

How about we give the second trinket slot, and it can be filled with stealth or vision wards? That way, even late game, you have a slot open for a pink.

XIII Vanitas1 votes

It was my first idea, but I like this one more because I want Riot to be able to balance true vision and stealth mechanics around the cd of a trinket.

Melledoneus1 votes

Giving free vision is never a good thing, given we already get enough of it. Pink wards should be a conscious buy, but a separate slot for it should allow its availability when item slots are full. This way, it would both encourage vision control for experienced players and it would separate them from the unrefined and/or lazy players.

You can't just hand people a rechargeable counter to stealth for cheap because it's not going to be that hard to figure out. Oh I have pinks I can just wait for them to stealth. Then hit a button and boom stealth countered. That's basically how it works now except for lategame at full builds. I dont think it would be wise for riot to do that without reworking how either stealth works or pinks. Also there are 5 of you with this. One of you is gonna have it up when needed.

XIII Vanitas1 votes

But with this mechanic they would be able to balance true vision and stealth around the cd of that trinket. It's not a problem for the late game because stealth based champions aren't meant to be strong teamfighters and having 1 or 5 available pink wards when the entire enemy team is grouped is the same thing.

If you agree to give every invis champion a 200% ratio on one ability, sure.

I don't think this kind of thing would ever happen, but just to add to the idea a bit: What if instead of another free trinket, there was an extra item slot that could only be filled by a pink ward? It'd still have to be purchased at the same cost, but at least it would free up the inventory space. Riot mentioned at one point awhile back that they were thinking about making other kinds of wards as well, so this extra slot could be used for any purchasable ward if more were added.

Like I said, though, I doubt it'll happen. It'd be cool, but Riot seems to want vision to be limited, or at the very least harder to get out there. Having to make the decision to either save a slot for a pink to get the vision or have more combat stats from a component item in mid game adds extra strategy to the game, and I don't see that dynamic changing anytime soon.

When everyone ... EVERYONE ... uses the first trinket slot effectively, I'd be happy to support having a second one.

In the past 3 days, I rarely see anyone else upg their trinkets and usually not until after I say something. If I had 1 ip for every time someone gets sweeper and doesn't upgrade it, I'd have that stupid heart summoner icon by now.

... unless level 1 sweeper is better than the level 9 sweeper? People can't even be bothered to get sweeper or blue when they have sight stone either.

Let's fix the fucked up system before we start expanding it.

XIII Vanitas1 votes

They're not upgrades, they're sidegrades. Yellow and blue trinket serve different purposes. The only one that can be considered an upgrade is item 3364.

MacDthree1 votes

I like this idea, but not making it free. Having a new slot to shove wards or consumables would be a blessing at this point. That being said though, you should still have to go to the shop, pay your gold, and then take it wherever you plan on using it. That way there would be room for the people who refuse to buy sight to mess up and get out played.

While I would love to have a slot just for pink wards, which hotkey slot would it be defaulted to? I already had enough trouble getting used to the fact that '4' was no longer my fourth actual item and, on occasion, waste my ult while trying to ward when under too much pressure. Alternatively, I will accidently be spamming my trinket key while TRYING to ult.

If it's delegated to '8', then that's way too far off to the side for most people without stretching not just their fingers but their wrist as well in a very awkward, uncomfortable manner just to get to it. Despite my having been taught keyboarding since I was 9 or 10 (can't remember), if I move my hand from 'asdf' THAT far ALTOGETHER, I still need to look down and re-compose myself to put my fingers back where they belong.

Of course, in this case, it's 'qwer', but the result is the same: having to take attention off the screen and leaving myself vulnerable and possibly miss a crucial reaction point.

What do you propose can be done about this?

XIII Vanitas1 votes

I don't think you'll have 6 item actives in your inventory. You can rebind keys in whichever configuration you prefer.

Rakvir1 votes

True on both counts but it's already a bit of a nuisance for me to hotkey most things on most games, not just LoL, because...I'm ashamed to say but I have not PARTICULARLY short but I still consider myself to have stubby fingers and my hands are remarkably small compared to most other guys.

My aforementioned keyboarding still required me to "cheat", if you will, with reaching certain keys with fingers the digits that were not typically assigned to them. I didn't have to look down to do it but since this is a game where you also use your mouse in cojunction with one's left hand, I still need to make sure my hand isn't being stupid. More than a few times I've gone down to asdf instead of qwer after a tense situation which ultimately got me or a teammate killed.
