A simple fix for Caitlyn's traps.

Embertine··33 votes·2,481 views

Make it so minions set off her traps like they do Jhin's.

This way Caitlyn can no longer "Trap" you at your tower because minions will clear the traps as they move through them. The minions will be effected the same as champions, being that they are rooted in spot until the effect wears off.

To be honest I miss the days when Caitlyn would put her traps in bushes to make for fun out plays and great escapes. Now days she just throws them out where ever without a care in the world and just spams them in the middle of the lane. No body even steps on them when they are in the middle of the lane anyways. I mean I do, but that's because I'm playing Leona and I'm clearing them out so my ADC doesn't step on them.

Please just make it so her traps interact with minions. It'll fix them perfectly.

I disagree; this defeats the purpose of Caitlyn as a zone/siege control ADC and would make her way too weak.

I would much rather see her old traps back than to introduce some new mechanic that would make her next to useless.

I would love to see her old traps back as well. But you know how riot is about changing things back to the way they were. . . .

She'd essentially become EXTREMELY hard to gank, because with her traps basically no longer being functional in lane, one of her last laning options for them would be to wall off the river.

zone/siege does not mean being disgustingly oppressive. Otherwise give Azirs soldier back under turret. I mean he is a zone mage.

She's sitting at a 50.93% winrate, I'd rather focus on more problem adc's

I don't get all the Cait hate. Cait's kit basically revolves around her traps zoning off enemies so she can siege. Not to mention that Ashe and Trist do this job tons better than her currently.

CeexSett1 votes

How does Tristana siege better than Cait?

Iwinatlife421 votes

She has the best turret destroying ability in the game? that also does a large aoe around the turret?

CeexSett1 votes

She has that while Caitlyn has the siege and the range to destroy, so it's pretty much the same, no?

Iwinatlife421 votes

Not Really because eventually Trist not only out ranges cait but out ranges TOWERS

CeexSett1 votes

Tristana's max range is 669 while turrets have 750. The only champion that can outage turrets is Twitch.

Jhin actually has an option to use his traps for waveclear though, I don't see that with Cait since they are single target and deal no damage outside of autoattacks.

They used to deal damage T~T

RIP AP cait.

DFG them

They provide the headshot mechanic which deals extra damage = faster/better waveclear.

It is not practical to use that way, and thus is just a pure nerf. Dealing more damage to 1 minion is negligible. While on Jhin I can clear 10+ minions lined up at my turret with E + W.

I don't. They were almost completely worthless back then. The only reason people threw traps into bushes is because it could theoretically let you catch someone who was asleep at the keyboard if you did that, while you wouldn't catch even the most braindead moron if they were anywhere else. Either you threw the traps in the bush and your enemies avoided them because everyone knew that Caitlyn wanted to trap the bush, or you threw them out in lane and the enemy avoided them because you couldn't block off enough terrain to make a difference. The only way Cait ever got a trap off in those days was to throw it under someone's feet after someone else locked them down.

People stopped throwing them into the bushes because Riot gave us a way to use them that wasn't completely worthless. I'd rather not see them go back to being so completely pointless.

As for your proposal: sounds bad from both a design perspective and a balance perspective. The primary function of her traps is making a wall so she can siege, but there's no use for a wall if it has a big gaping hole in it. A better change would be one that introduces a new, healthier alternative for the traps, instead of only taking away the thing that currently makes them good. On top of that, she's not one of the best AD carries anymore. She doesn't need a nerf this large.

I agree, RITO please make this.

Let me make this clear: The current state of caitlyn traps creates UNHEALTHY gameplay when all she does is use it to zone enemies completely and when enemies step on it, she gets a massive dmg increase and range on her next autoattack. Why can't riot replace the headshot proc on her w with scaling armor penetration? This would make a difference between good caits and bad ones.

Well done boards, you really out-did yourself

Uh, mate Jhin's traps are aoe and can be used for wave clear, how bothered would you be if your main catching tool was set off by minions and were then forced to account for their ludicrous pathing

I feel like they need to lower their lifetime under enemy turrets like with Azir's soldiers and Zyra's plants. I love how you can place a nearly invisibly trap behind towers and then get a giant damage boost when the enemy walks on a trap they literally couldn't see. Walking on one in a bush is different because you expect Caitlyn to place traps in bushes, but when you're under your tower, trying to dodge her Q only to eat a trap you can't see and get half-healthed while she uses the other traps to wall you away from CS, it seems oppressive.

I'm fine with her being a lane bully, but the fact that they get to sit there for 90 seconds under my tower is just crazy. Azir only gets his soldiers up for 9 seconds and it's halved under towers. Zyra's plants will last under tower for max 7.5 seconds or until the tower has finished focusing the champ/minion it is trying to kill, in which case they die to one hit. Yeah, Caitlyn's traps aren't doing any damage while they sit there, but they are a threat nonetheless. It's like Blitzcrank sitting with his hook, you always have to be on alert when it isn't on cooldown, with these traps you have to be alert all the time if they are on the ground.

Zyra's seeds, not her passive seeds, last only 60 second, give true sight if stepped on for 2 seconds, and she can only store 2 even if maxing that ability. Why does Caitlyn traps last longer, root people, have more available, and offer true sight longer? Obviously 5 plants attacking you would make Zyra way over powered, but walling off an ADC who is going to lose 1/6 of their health if they eat a trap while near Caitlyn isn't?

I'm glad atleast one person wanted to offer reasonable input.

Yes lowering the time on them would also help out quite a bit when they are placed under towers. I actually would like atleast that to be done to them.

Even though I don't have any problems with her traps since the only reason I step on them is to prevent my ADC from doing so. It seems to me that her traps or more of a annoyance now. I actually don't remember having stepped on any of her traps outside of lane since season 3 I think.

well, that nerf would make yorick useful before his rework :^)

I always placed traps right in the lane, only bad caits place em in useless places [slayer-jinx-wink]
