Can Riven just get a shield when dashing towards enemy champions?

Cause I think that might end the whole "gains a shield when running" argument.

Please don't negotiate with low elo balance terrorists. Riven doesn't need a nerf at all right now, why would she be given one?

wait, so you're saying high elo riven needs a nerf?

No.

I'm more so bored and thought of a topic. I don't really think she needs changes.

Couple ideas for that:

General theme of burst availability to non-dedicated bursters:

  • item 3742 : Does it need to do a burst of damage with its proc? What could be the alternatives - stacks converting to AD or AS, better slow, something else entirely? Could it potentially build out of item 2053 and stack faster when near towers?
  • item 3078 : Compared to old Triforce, its focus shifted away from being a mix of sustained damage (via auto-attacks, AD/AS/Crit) with occasional burst (150% base AD Sheen procs) to an item that is a lot about frequent bursts of damage (200% AD Sheen procs, 20% CdR) and lower emphasis on sustained damage (lower AD, no more crit, only 10% AS more).

"Frequent burst damage"

Why is that a thing? That shouldn't be a thing.

ProfDrDeath1 votes

No, it shouldn't.

Previously, to have the same burst frequency with Triforce, you needed to have another completed item (item 3110 ) or two ( item 3065 and another 10% item...).

Almost all shields in the game and almost all dashes in the game have some sort of secondary or third effect. Why not Riven?

Here's my problem with this idea.

I said it in Melle's thread, so I'll copy and paste with some edits

He listed XinZhao, Camille, Kled in our discussion about dashes in the game. Basically his point was thay they were rewarded for sticking in the fight, and felt that Riven should too.

However, what do all their dashes have in common?

They deal damage AND do an additional effect.

XinZhao's deals damage and challenges them.

Camille's deals damage and stuns them.

Kled's deals damage and lets him dash through a second time.

Now look at Riven's.

No damage. Only a shield.

You see why I have a problem with this assessment? If we go this route, we're giving a champ with 0 damage on her dash no real utility either. Plus the shield scales with her bonus AD.

Now you would be correct in pointing out that all of them need a target of some kind to dash, unlike Riven.

To that I say...

Gragas Graves Corki Fizz Leblanc Malphite Shen (sorry shenpai, need you for this example.)

Every single one of these champs have a unidirectional dash. They all deal damage and an additional effect.

I don't really care for the discussion, but if you want to point out facts, atleast don't point out biased facts.

If you say xin zhao's dash challenges people

there's no reason to not say riven's dash enhances her AD on next AA

TyrekGoldenspear4 votes

I listed it because Xin's dash explicity states it does this.

Riven's dash only moves her a distance and shields her.

Her passive is what makes her next AA enhanced, not her dash.

Xin's Passive and Dash list that it challenges people, which is why I included it.

You're correct that Riven's dash has no damage. Her dash can go in any direction however and it is not her only mobility spell. Unlike your 3 examples, Riven has two basic abilities that offer free form mobility. One of which not only provides damage, but a knock up. So giving her another damage ability would be rather ridiculous. I personally just don't understand why she needs a shield defensive steroid when her mobility can allow her to avoid damage.

Over all I wouldn't change anything on Riven. It was just a thought.

Now the only thing I really have against Riven is her "stun hit run repeat" fighting style because it doesn't really feel like I'm allowed to fight back unless she lets me (I understand why she has this fighting style, I don't like it but won't change it).

Technically they weren't my examples, they were Mell's, the later 7 were mine.

But I see your point and raise you this. Fizz.

Two spells for mobility. Troll pole and a Dash.

Both deal damage.

Yeah I have nothing against your thought, just adding my two cents as to why I personally don't think Riven should get her only form of protection taken.

Even Yas has a shield.

Okay bad example, but I hope you see my point.

Well, her shield is semi-unique where it scales with her AD. So building damage is actually gonna protect her more, unlike how the other shields work where usually health or another non-offensive stat is the scaling factor.

TyrekGoldenspear1 votes

Yeah, but I think we are all glad on some level that she isn't rewarded for building tanky lol.

JavelinJoe1 votes

True

ProfDrDeath1 votes

The are quite a few shields that scale on champion's primary damage stat.

AP maybe, but not really with AD

"Can Riven be gutted completely vs Renekton, Jayce, Darius, Fiora, Quinn, Pantheon, Yasuo, in teamfights, in midgame, lategame and early game."

Is what this post says to anybody who knows how she functions.

It involves coding, Riot ain't gonna code that.

i think that she should get bonus shielding when dashing toward enemy champions instead of just completely removing the shield when she dashes away.
