I cannot gank if you have your lane pushed to your enemies' turret

Your Next Kill··88 votes·7,751 views

Don't tell me "ugh youre so useless didn't gank once" when you spent the entire laning phase pushed to the turret, getting ganked and getting their bot lane and jungler fed. I'm watching every lane for a gank. If you're at your opponent's tower, I can't gank. Okay?

Well, ignoring everything correct about what you've said, there are still a couple circumstances that you really need to look out for:

  1. Counterganks. If your ally is pushed, they're probably ahead in lane. If the enemy jungler ganks, he necessarily moves himself and his allies out of position in order to try to secure kills on the gank. This is why counterganks are so effective - the enemy is positioned too far from their turret while your team is stronger. It's a very easy way to get double/triple kills. To facilitate this, you should be warding in the enemy jungle near your strong lane. If you run in to trouble, the strong lane should be able to respond as quickly as the enemy can (and the enemy will lose a lot of creep score and xp due to it being pushed to tower) resulting in a win. If you run in to no one, you know where to countergank based on the early vision, also resulting in easy kills.

  2. Tower dives. As mentioned in 1, the enemy team has a lot of cs and xp to miss if they were to suddenly be unable to farm under tower. Also, creeps draw initial aggro, allowing you to position aggressively and with coordination before initiating the dive. Again, this requires vision as being counterganked during a tower dive can be costly. Overall though, a well executed tower dive is an EXCEPTIONAL way to get a strong lane rolling. If they're already able to bully their opponent to their turret, making that opponent miss over a wave of cs and xp on top of giving your team kill gold and xp is going to get them rolling.

Neither of these are easy, but you'll notice that any pro jungler executes these incredibly well. A successful towerdive-gank is often more impactful than a typical gank, because rather than just missing the next 1 wave while dead, they're also missing the 1+ wave that was crashing on to the tower when you killed them. Obviously a countergank that results in an extra kill is also better than a typical gank.

Which again, I've ignored everything you've said that's correct. Of course it's easier to gank when your ally freezes lane and makes the enemy extend. Perhaps you aren't a great tower diver. Perhaps the enemy jungler is stronger early, etc... Just pointing out that sometimes these people may have a point.

Any good laner will be freezing in front of their tower if they're ahead, not mindlessly pushing up and trying to get ganked.

that's a really broad statement to make when everything in League is circumstantial. You adjust your strategy at all times. Sometimes if you're ahead maybe you'll freeze the wave if you're afraid of their jungler ganking. Other times you may push the wave up to the tower if you know your team has enough map presence to back you up if things go south.

Captain Aishi1 votes

and sometimes you push when ahead because you want to draw the enemy jungler to you in order to alleviate the pressure on your other lanes that might be struggling or not having as strong of an early game as you do :)

Well excuse me for having to deal with an aggro riven under my tower with a shaco who are nearly killing me.

I don't expect you to come top if I'm being an idiot, but if they're tower diving me 2v1, I expect my jungler to come up and help instead of finishing off the krugs. I give every jungler 1-2 chances to make this kind of mistake, but after I start tilting. HARD.

I don't expect a gank if you're in bot jungle, nor if your in the enemy jungle, furthernor if your ganking bot or mid, but if your nearby and I have problems, help me.

Also if I ping for help several times over a period of time, I would like you to come too to relieve some of the pressure on me from Fiora or whoever at some point soon.

I don't think any laner has an excuse for dying before the 5 minute mark no matter what anyone else on their team or the other team is doing.

Listen buddy, if you see a Shaco on their team, chances are he's not here to farm for forty minutes. I need my Smite Item before I gank a lane and that's only going to happen if I'm fairly certain I'll blow more than a Q dash.

That said most junglers will be at half health at the end of first clear or lower, so when we kill those krugs and back, that's just us not being idiots.

as someone who almost exclussively jungles ( occassionally i top / support just to break up the constant JGing ) If you ever say you cant gank because your allie is pushed, you are a crappy jungler. Some of my favorite ganks happen when enemys are backed to their turret and think they are ungankable.

As a jungler, your primary role is objective control / vision control

Youre secondary role is to SUPPORT YOUR LANES REGARDLESS OF HOW PUSHED THEY ARE

even showing your face briefly will force an enemy laner to purchase pink wards, or waiste other resources because you are showing them you are a presence in the game.

If losing out on 15 seconds of game play to run to a lane quickly is that detrimental to you, then you truly need to learn to more properly route your jungle, or tax them ONE ( ONLY ONE, NOT CANNON ) minion to compensate for running up to assist.

It's a team game, refusing to show your face shows you neglect your teamates.

Please leave jungling to the people who know how to do it

Well said by an unranked primary support player who's entire history is filled with epically terrible scores. So ya this is why 99% of league players suck you actually don;t understand the game you just regurgitate idiocy you heard on "pro streams" or you watch lcs. So let me break it down for you because EVERYTHING in league is actually 100% situational and that is what 99% of you regurgitators don;t get.

  1. If i attempt to counter gank but no gank occurs, i wasted my time and everyone falls behind, it can be very devastating in fact because if there was a ward that spotted me the enemy jungler also raped my jungle, or knows they are clear to dive the other side of the map. Once again though we make the assumption that your entire team is proficient at warding and thus you know where the enemy jungler is most times this is simply not true.

  2. early dives require extreme coordination and even require specific rune/mastery set ups that many typical players won't run, wait it also requires specific champions also that not everyone plays, it works at higher levels because people understand the game and the situational play very well, make uber meta picks and understand the mechanics of a dive. Lastly I am not sure why people assume the people you are diving will be at low hp to start lol. Nothing worse than going to dive for your bad bot laner who play it poorly get you killed and the enemy getrs doubles on top of thier huge lead...

  3. no this is solo Q, as a jungler your job is not to provide support and vision for your team....that pretty much only works at pro level play because you know the rest of your team is competent to carry a game. Most typical league matches bronze-plat/diamond you have no idea that any specific player can carry a game. I cant count the number of times I got "xxxx carry" fed as i said to myself ugh they literally did nothing but the last 120 dmg to get all the kills and even though our zed is 4/0/0 he is somehow still being hammered in lane....and sure enough as the game progresses it turns out he is epic dogshit and couldnt carry if he was 30/0/0. So if you want to win you need to try to balance the fine line of putting yourself in a position to carry AND ALSO your teammates, because the opposite is true as well over and over I see the asshat who watched trick2g and this shitbird thinks he needs to take it all cause you know he has to carry the game, but he is actually really bad and his "take it all" just screws over the good players on the team who could have carried.

In the end the game is very complicated and nuanced that is why all of these stupid advice threads are a cancer because people like you post the usual regurgitated crap you heard someone else say without understanding the nuances and situations that makes them a valid statement.

Sintama5 votes

Yes you can. You're supposed to turret dive. Turrets do no damage, and you can always trade-off shots.

MorgManBasher5 votes

Your thought process shouldn't be "I can't gank" if someone is under turret. Your thought process should be. is that person low under that tower? Can we tower dive this person? Where is THEIR jungler? Is their jungler about to gank my laner pushing up? Should I come there and COUNTER GANK.

It's not always about ganking a lane that is pushed to your side, it's also about counter ganking lanes that are pushed on their side and helping laners tower dive.

It's also the laners jungle to ward and do their best to control the lane and call for those tower dives and counter ganks as well when needed... but it's also the jungler's job to ward as well. So many shit junglers that don't but pinks and ward for their laners and then complain when they get ganked when you should also be helping to ward for your team.

Just because you are in the jungle doesn't mean you don't get blame. Ward. Highly recommend item 3711 on most junglers, but either way you should be buying pinks.

Most junglers would rather let the laner die while they are taking red so THEY can in turn be the one to talk shit (or at least is the case in 90% of games I've seen).

It is always the bot lane WAAAAAY pushed up and the jungler will walk up, see the enemy jungler, and just leave with what I can only imagine is a smirk. If someone is shitty, it is easy to convince yourself they deserve to get killed instead of helping them, until you realize you are throwing just as much by refusing to help them.

TrelosKapetanios3 votes

True for about 70% of the situations. The other 30% revolves around the certainty of you not managing to save them in time, you're low in hp and you cant help either way, or there is a more urgent opportunity in a lane nearer to your then current position etc and etc

FluxBound1 votes

If you're a jungler that doesn't gank when the enemy are 2 squishies with no escape and are deep in your jungle, then yeah you're fucking worthless. But I agree with your post.

Serika Zero3 votes

A pushed lane means that the enemy jungler is less likely to invade you on that side. And if they do, your laner will be the first one to collapse. Giving you an advantage in the fight, hence why the enemy jungler will most likely avoid going for an invade. For the same reasons, you CAN invade the enemy. Also, the enemy laner is more likely to miss cs under tower. Also more easy to poke or haras.

So basically we are covering your confident jungler ass. But its all for naught if you are unable to use the pressure we put on the map. Pushing a lane is almost never a bad thing if you got a good jungler, the player not the champion.

Phenyxs2 votes

100% correct. Or they ping and they have full health and your teammates have less than half.

KirbyCake2 votes

at that point you should just straight up turret dive then?

Sire Hippington2 votes

To be honest, most junglers are quite to hessitant on towerdives. Sure, if your lane already fed and is in a bad position, towerdiving might not be the best idea, and some champs can be rather tricky, but generally speaking, doing a 2vs1 dive is far from impossible.

volrath051 votes

i wont dive in solo q, i just can't ever trust my team to follow up on anything, hell even in optimal positions ex. enemy laners pushed to our tower, and adc at half health, and already wasted flash, i signal im coming to gank, i go in and expect them to follow, they back to tower and i get 2v1 and die. then somehow its my fault

Xonra2 votes

See I wouldn't mind hearing this if most of you junglers would gank when they are pushed to MY turret.

Got a Jayce pushed up next to my turret. Pink ward in the river bush. See my jungler clear blue and then just walks off to go take chickens and back. Walks back up towards my lane, still pushed up (by them not me) and goes to counter jungle, my enemy top laner just backs up, ends up dying to the enemy jungler and top laner after I'm spam pinging the top laner is on the way.

If you can't gank because we are pushed up and that is your excuse, then you better be on your horse riding at my lane when the enemy is at my tower and it is a bad matchup you could easily turn, cause otherwise you are just spouting nonsense for upvotes and circlejerking :P

I know it sounds shitty but the amount of junglers that say "can't gank when you are pushed up" so I full on let the enemy push, and my jungler just goes wandering off to tower dive bot. Oh you can gank THEM pushed up, I see. aaaaand that is why your top laners just keep farming when you ask for help later on lol

Stand Alone Wolf2 votes

It's much worse when you not only type in game: "If you need a gank, let the enemy over-extend as I can't gank you if you are pushed up on their turrets guys." but you have to continuously remind your team-mates that you are trying to gank for them, but they are being too aggressive. I make sure to make it a very strong point that whomever I cannot gank for is literally the reason I cannot gank. Straight-up preventing me from helping, and they can't say I'm terrible for not ganking as they know I pointed it out throughout the match.

Then of course you get those players who just don't listen to you at all, and even after you keep telling them to fall back, stop over-extending, I want to gank you let me, ect, they still get mad at you in the end for not ganking them. Seriously????

this is actually not true.

this is usually true, but there are situations...especially top lane where diving the enemy laner is the correct call.

dyrus talks about it in one of his videos. on stream he mentioned basically a good top laner will fast shove a wave sometimes and build up a massive enemy wave that will then hit the enemy at their t ower.

at this point jungler and top laner dive enemy top laner kill him and cause him to miss 2-3 waves worth of gold and more importantly...exp. at that point if the dive is successful the lane is over for the opponent. he is 2 levels or so behind and also in gold. he is just going to be dumpstered once he comes back by a competent player. dyrus says this is why he doesnt need junglers to gank or camp. he needs them to just come at the right times. a good jungler knows when its a good time to dive and when its not.

so look for opportunities.

also I want to note, a good jungler counter ganks. is your laner pushed in to their tower constantly?

they are going to be an easy target for enemy jungler. if you are nearby and about ot back? why not go top sit iin a bush and wait a few seconds for a counter gank. no one shows up? just recall. you were going to anyway. counter ganks are huge part of playing jungle. if you know your lane is about to be ganked you can be there and help them.

if your laner is pushing into their tower all day that means they are winning lane usually. help keep it that way.

granted its not your fault if they get caught out. but its not like you cant do anything if they are shoving.

that is just silly logic.

correction: You can. It just requires a riskier play, and you need to be able to trust that your teammates will follow through. It's also kind of a dick move to complain for a gank if you are the lane thats pushed all the way up and refuse to even cooperate with the jungler's preferences. If they are pushed up and have no vision safety, f that. I go back 2 frm.

Xonra1 votes

Sometimes you are just a champion that pushes or one that can't farm as fast and get naturally pushed. It is a bit silly to ask your laner to miss cs because you prefer them to be pushed in because they can't be bothered to help you otherwise.

Sometimes it is better to push up to force the enemy to lose CS, but I get where the jungler is coming from, but they aren't taking into account anything but the jungler perspective.

Pushed or not, if the enemy jungler shows up to camp a lane, and your jungler literally refuses to show up, that is then just as much on your jungler as the players pushed up. The jungler KNOWS they are gonna get camped and refuses to counter jungler. Now they are at fault too.

If you aren't playing a scaling champ then there's no point in ganking after you lose. Likewise, if you lost because you made egregious mistakes in lane then you won't get a gank because your lack of skill means you will probably won't do anything with the lead even if your jungler helps you catch up, so the ganks are better spent on someone who went even in lane. Common sense thinking for soloQ junglers who already have to put up with enough shit as it is.

Likely should have phrased it better, but oh well.

I mean he will not gank no matter the circumstances. Get ganked yourself and killed under tower? Sucks to be you, he will outright refuse afterward. Doesn't matter who you play, he will not help at all. It gets frustrating when you die once and he just brands you as not worth ganking, so you just have to play defensively because if the other jungle shows up, you're done.
