@Riot, you did it for Zilean. Now please give us some clarity to Shen's ultimate.

Add some sort of visual indicator to the screen that doesn't add too much clutter.

https://youtu.be/o9xxNS3Ome4?t=83

That effect on the shield on Amumu, on the ally's screen. Also, an OMW ping for allies to know that you're on the way and that the fight is going in their favor. Because we're all tired of having teammates that flash away from fights we just lost several waves of farm (and in this meta, maybe even a turret) we ulted to.

If you guys could do this for the Shen playerbase, it would be nice. Shen is one of my favorite champions (He's my Shenpai, of course) and while sometimes allies get it, others don't. It would be a lot better if the ultimate was more clear for the ally getting ulted to so that they could re-enter the fight and get you closer for a good taunt on the enemy.

i would prefer a ping " on my way " like panth's ult and a voice speaker like kalista when she ults her support

In another post about shen i found a day ago i mentioned his ult placing a ghost form of Shen standing beside his Ally as he's ulting in to indicate his imminent arrival.

Think like Ekko's Ult ghost that shows where his ult will place him, but instead it's a ghost Shen using "Stand United" on an ally for the clutch play. I honestly think that would both be the best and coolest move they could possibly add for clarity as well as counter play for Shen's Ult.

Melledoneus1 votes

This is an idea I've been working around that I think is REALLY cool. But it might take too many resources to accomplish.

datdonkeydoe4 votes

Even with Zils ult ... people still run away. I wish Zilean could turn back time on a wasted ult.

And for Yorick too pls

Melledoneus1 votes

That's a good idea, but I'm not sure if Riot is willing to put in the effort for a champion who's next in line for a rework after Taric.

Wolfenstin3 votes

Perhaps the sound he makes at his location should also play to the player his teleporting to? Like the chant that he makes would also play for the person he's ulted so they'd get a firm indication that he's coming.

On top of that, a small aura around your feet could appear as well, the same one that appears before Shen warps.

Knalxz2 votes

I think every ability like this needs some sort of visual.

I.E If TF is ulting near an ally the screen should have a transparent card appear to where he is at.

Melledoneus8 votes

For TF, there's already an "on my way" ping on the map to where he's showing up. Not to mention the gigantic eye of sauron that appears above everyone.

Knalxz2 votes

Yet people will still follow through with a disengage when they knew a tide turning ally is coming leaving him to his death.

You must be aware that you've pretty much asked for the same thing. It's not like Shen's TP isn;t obviously visible with the increased health and bubble yet people still don't notice it. Not to mention that just because someone pings "On My Way" usually means that they're on their way from a far off location not warping in.

Melledoneus3 votes

Understandable, but I'm asking for something more for Shen.

See, TF and Pantheon can ultimate to wherever they wish. It's not ally specific. However, Shen has an ally-specific shield and teleport, meaning that the person who's the anchor for the ability should be aware that their positioning is what makes or breaks the fight. If your ally didn't see you coming because the shield disappeared due to a very damaging ability, or their attention was focused elsewhere, they might run away or flash away, wasting everybody's time and a 3 minute cooldown.

A visual, much like Zilean's screen coloration, would be much appreciated and bring lots of clarity to the field. Because Zilean's loud chime and hourglass visuals for his ultimate are obviously visible, but the game has so many elements to focus on people don't notice things like that. So they recolored the whole screen to a brighter shade of white for clarity. I don't see why Shen, whose ultimate is equally as powerful, if not more, shouldn't be given a QoL buff like that.

Knalxz1 votes

I'm not doubting that Shen should get the change I'm saying that other champions need it as well.

Shen and TF are both throwing themselves into the fight, they should both get the treatment of clarity. Having a transparent card appear when TF is ulting within a 2 screen radius of you would allow people to know backup is near.

What is the difference between this and Shen getting a visual indicator?

Melledoneus4 votes

Well, the difference is that TF is a mage whose ultimate is used to cut off escapes, make them, or join a fight from a desired position. Moreover, TF needs to be within a certain radius to teleport. TF's ultimate is utility only for himself.

Meanwhile, Shen's ultimate is reliant on his ally. He shields them, teleports to them, and places his sword next to them when he arrives. Shen's ultimate needs to be more clear for his ally, since they are not only being protected, but they are his anchor point.

Twisted Fate has the most telegraphed ultimate due to the 3 indications it gives allies. Also, it's different considering it's more aggressive with its enemy vision. Shen meanwhile relies on your allies noticing a muffled sound effect and a small shield which probably got shredded through by the opponent they're fighting. Most of the time, enemies notice the shield before allies, which should not be the case.

To put this in short terms: Twisted Fate doesn't care about allies regarding his allies. So he shouldn't care whether they know he's coming or not. Shen, on the other hand, specifically targets an ally, and cares immensely whether they continue to fight or run away like an idiot.

Knalxz1 votes

How often do you play or play with a TF? You care extremely about your allies when you TP in because normally you're doing it to turn the fight around just like Shen. Both can ult to ward off foes going in along with doing it aggressively.

Are you aware that every point you're saying against why Tf shouldn't get this change can be used against you as to why Shen shouldn't get this change? If any Rioter sees this they'll just be shown how you're against your own idea.

This is for the sake of clarity and can assure you that TF's have died more from teammates not knowing they're arriving to help alot more then Shen is because TF has no way out and NEEDS a follow up when he ults into a teamfight otherwise he can easily be CC chained because they know exactly where he's going to land and when. He doesn't explode out of a person flying at the enemy or blocking auto attacks, when he's caught out he dies.

You have a point, however pay attention to what you just stated. You said that you're turning around the fight, yet you forget that TF does it much differently. Allow me to create a likely scenario with the two.

Bot lane. ADCs and supports hit 6. Hell breaks loose, your ADC slightly has the lower hand. Now: 1a. Twisted Fate walks to the middle of river, then uses his ultimate to teleport in a bush behind the enemy to land a quick yellow card. This ensures a kill and picks up one or two easy kills. 1b. Shen uses his ultimate to the carry. The ADC recognizes this and gets closer to the enemy ADC before they realize that Shen is coming. Shen dashes onto the enemy ADC, grabs a quick assist, then depending on the situation can grab a quick drag/turret or back and take care of his own lane.

But what if things don't end up so well for your ADC? 2a. Twisted Fate walks to the middle of the river, then uses his ultimate to teleport in a bush behind the enemy to land a yellow card on the enemy ADC. It's a 2v1, but the enemies are low enough so you can grab those quick kills. 2b. Shen uses his ultimate on his ADC, but before Shen's channel is complete the ADC gets blown up by thunderlord's decree, and dies. Bot lane just potentially lost a turret.

And let's say the ADC is oblivious as hell. 3a. Twisted Fate walks to the middle of the river, then uses his ultimate to teleport in a bush behind the enemy to land a yellow card on the enemy ADC before they realize that they're chasing your ADC too deep, too low to fight a mage. Your ADC continues running, but Twisted Fate manages to use his E passive and Q damage to finish off the enemy ADC for a good 300 gold. 3b. Shen uses his ultimate on the carry while they run away. The enemy ADC realizes that Shen is coming due to the shield and stops pursuing. Shen is now bot lane, the enemy ADC is perfectly fine, and the enemy top laner gets 5-6 minion waves of an advantage, maybe even a turret if they're THAT kind of laner.

See the difference?

Are you aware that every point you're saying against why Tf shouldn't get this change can be used against you as to why Shen shouldn't get this change? If any Rioter sees this they'll just be shown how you're against your own idea.

I never said TF shouldn't get a change. I'm just saying it's unnecessary because he has:

  1. An indication to every single champion that his ultimate has been activated.
  2. An "on my way" ping to where he teleports.
  3. A "teleport" visual effect on the minimap when he teleports around his icon (which moves rapidly, naturally catching attention).

Meanwhile, Shen has... a muffled hum. My laptop fan makes more noise than that, and it's supposed to be silent. Shen needs more ways to convey to his allies that THEY are HIS anchor point. And that they are the ones who he is going to peel for, engage from, or follow up on an already strong engage made. This clarity is crucial for those who don't play with premades, as other players don't know when Shen is ulting besides a shield that is easily shredded through and a soft sound effect that's quieter than Rammus' VO. It's a game changing ability that is hardly noticeable to allies in the heat of battle.

The thing about TF is that he gets vision on EVERY SINGLE ENEMY CHAMPION. He gets a free analysis of positions and can determine himself how to position himself for a gank. That's what separates good TFs from bad TFs. He's squishy, yes. But he has a targeted stun on a negligible cooldown and will usually follow up on engages, or chase down fleeing enemies. He's independent in that regard, but when he's flanking an enemy he relies on allies to engage first. It's normal for AoE-based champions who can position like that to rely on a hard engage before going in. However, unlike what you implied, Shen is more useless than TF is if caught out of position. If Shen's ally takes him away from a fight and he misses a taunt... guess what? Shen gets skewered. As do most tanks in this meta.

In most team compositions Shen is the one engaging. But his anchor point is an ally. If his ally doesn't realize this, they potentially waste Shen's greatest opportunity for an engage. And it gets put on a 2-3 minute cooldown. Shen relies on allies not only for his positioning, unlike TF, but his whole follow-up and engage. Shen's entire kit is nullified if your ally does something to hinder your ability to engage. That's not part of the formula for TF.

Twisted Fate's ultimate formula: In-range + good position + obvious advantage= success.

Shen's ultimate formula: Living ally + close vicinity to enemy + ally's ability to stay at a good distance and survive= success

Put like this, it is shown that Twisted Fate relies more on positioning and the element of surprise to catch his opponents off-guard and kill them. Shen, on the other hand, relies on the positioning of his ally and their ability to stay in range of the enemy and continue the fight until Shen arrives.

Twisted Fate's ultimate seems similar in function, but the actual elimination of reliance on a teammate is what makes teamwork not as crucial on his ultimate's mechanic than Shen. If Shen's entire team is dead, he doesn't have an ultimate. Twisted Fate, on the other hand. does. Two similar mechanics, but two completely different uses and aspects.

The problem is that the 'on my way' ping is also used if you just walk where, i often had people not reacting because they though it was a normal roam and thus takes more time.

Global TPs should get their own distinct ping with it's own sound

For some people an half hp bar shield isn't enough of a indicator ;c

Melledoneus3 votes

I wouldn't be that harsh about it. In a fight, there are many things to worry about, and sometimes whether you have a shield or not is not one of them.

PePsiLemoNN1 votes

So u can't see your hp bar but you can see some visual effect .. hm

Melledoneus3 votes

If your screen gets filled with swirling dots and lines, you'd have to be blind not to see that.

In a team fight or an engage in bot lane in early game, your big shield isn't really big and it disappears easily with a single auto of an enemy with high burst. What does it mean? That your ally doesn't even realize that he has been shielded.

Yeah but you turn different colors and shit lol I've never not once been shen ulted and not know about it

It could be cool to have his Spirit Sword hovering above his ally as the channel goes through. Over the duration of the channel it could slowly rise into the air, then fall sharply as Shen arrives. He's not using his Spirit Blade anyway for the duration of the channel, so why not?

Melledoneus2 votes

That is actually a really cool idea. But too obvious for enemies to see.

Varnoc1 votes

Maybe, though Shen's ult never struck me as a stealthy type of move.

Melledoneus1 votes

But he's a ninja.

Varnoc1 votes

I agree, but Ninjas, more than anyone else, would know the difference between a time to be sneaky, and a time to take action blatantly, and Shen's ult strikes more more as the latter. He's played his hand, with no need to waste energy (eww, puns) trying to conceal his movements, it just doesn't strike me as something a "tank ninja" (which is an oxymoron in the first place) would care much for.

If it were on Akali, I would agree, as she's more of a sneaky kick your face in suddenly kind of champion. However Shen's more focused on avoiding attacks or misdirecting them, rather than hoping you don't notice what's going on before it's too late (that said, Akali doesn't deliver this very well currently either).

On a related note, it would open up a cool combo, letting Shen activate his W, then Ulting, would allow his target to be fairly safe from basic attacks during the channel. Weather this is optimal or not is debatable, but it would be neat.

Melledoneus2 votes

You bought me with that last paragraph. This is a really good idea, but what would happen if Shen's ultimate is canceled?

Varnoc1 votes

I'd imagine it would appear at his location much like if he had completed his channel, or used teleport. This would make the most sense and allow both Shen and his opponent to plan around it's location should he be interrupted I would think.

check it out

God yes, rito pls! I really hate when our blitz is runing away when I am ulting him. The enemy bot was kog and soraka. THe shield wouldve stopped poke

The sword appears near or next to your allies right? Or no?

Cause i think im either seeing things, or i got some descent awareness.

Melledoneus2 votes

The sword appears on top of where you ult to.

GenghisEmo1 votes

ok, i kind of thought so. Just needed to make sure.

RyzeRework1 votes

i mean i see shen ulting everytime onto me or an ally so i dont know how much more clear a big sheild appearing on ur hp bar with shens humming sounds could get lol

Melledoneus2 votes

I wish all my teammates were as attentive as you. More than half of my ults result in the ADC or mid laner using their escape a good second after I ult. Then I show up at their turret, lose 20-30 farm, and they're just like, "whoops, sorry."

Sire Hippington1 votes

I'd prfer to get a specific ping for global TPs in generall. The 'on my way' ping is confusing, i often had people not reacting to my tham ult cause they thought i would walk there and thus need way longer to get there.

Also, a clear sound for allies that recive the ult would be great

Diamond Frostman1 votes

How about putting him back pre-work... that would be more helpful. He was fine, never needed changing, Riot changed it for busywork.

Melledoneus1 votes

I've been asking for this QoL change since season 4. His rework has absolutely nothing to do with it.

i always ping when im ulting in anyway but I approve of this for new players [slayer-pantheon-thumbs]
