regarding nunu and his teased rework and why it's concerning that we havent yet had an update on it

so i just saw that post about champs with dashes and i replied with a filtering of champions who increasingly are at a disadvantage due to lacking primarily mobility and cc and this is what i found:

champions with no dashes and no hard movement cc: DrMundo Gangplank Garen Kayle Mordekaiser MissFortune Olaf Sivir Rumble Twitch Teemo Vladimir Nasus KogMaw Karthus

champions with no dashes or hard movement cc and that cant avoid/cleanse cc: DrMundo Kayle Mordekaiser MissFortune Nunu Rumble Twitch TeemoNasus KogMaw Karthus

champions with no dashes or hard movement cc that cant avoid/cleanse cc and have no tanking mechanic: Kayle MissFortune Nunu Twitch Teemo KogMaw Karthus

champions with no dashes or hard movement cc, that cant avoid/cleanse cc, have no tanking mechanic, and dont have very long ranges: Nunu Teemo Karthus

champions with no dashes or hard movement cc, that cant avoid/cleanse cc, have no tanking mechanic, dont have very long ranges, and who isnt ranged at all: Nunu

This is why nunu needs a rework.

I think the main issue about Nunu's rework is finding the right direction for it to go.

WHO is Nunu? What is his identity? What makes Nunu "Nunu"?

Is it his snowball?

His ult?

His devour?

It certainly ain't his enrage.

Whenever Nunu saw competitive plays, it was mainly for his objective control with devour, yet, many people probably see Nunu as this tanky chasing machine that does whatever he wants. And some others really like his AP aspect.

Sion's rework was almost a completely new champion, but he kept his zombie aspect, his passive is a tribute for his old ult, he kept a very similar shield, health stacking, his roar is another tribute to his old point-n-click stun.

Nunu needs a solid concept before he can get his rework.

Ive discussed this a lot with people over the years and i think what's most important is to preserve both playstyles. For jungle all that really means is that one of the abilities on one of his skills is a free smite. For support that means his primary damage skill needs to do a lot of damage when built for poke and his ult needs to be basically the most damaging aoe in the game.

Main problems in his kit right now are:

  1. that q is a useless skill in most fights
  2. He has no defence (whether that be direct defence like shields or heals vs indirect like stuns) or real mobility (leaps/blinks/dashes)
  3. His ult is nearly useless due to ease of interruption or commonality of enemy movement abilities negating any efficacy of his slows

Solutions:

  1. either give him a new effect when using q on champions or allow him to use q as is on champions with potentially different ratio
  2. he needs ranged hard cc + soft mobility or his current slows + hard mobility with high uptime
  3. his ult needs conditional cc blocking and or hard mobility impairment such as grounding to increase its viability.
