how was the sejuani rework successful?

JarodDempsey··38 votes·14,049 views

I used to play sejuani in the season before her rework and thought she was fun. I tried her again today and cant seem to figure out how she can be good. Her q is basically the same, pretty meh but not too bad. W is frankly terrible compared to her old skill, its damage has a smaller aoe and is much less than it used to be. Her e is useless unless you have melee champs on your team and even then it has a moderate cooldown and does negligible damage - a far cry from the skill that was leveled first pre-rework. The ofc theres her new ult which is comparably useless to her old one, she used to be able to stun a whole team, now with great aim you get 1 person or you get a practically useless slow field, thats a straight downgrade.

People who played her pre rework, can you explain to me how i might use her as well as in the past?

simple:

it wasn't. don't play her.

Simply put, you can't. Power was taken out of her ult and given to her basic abilities as cc

She lost damage to get more cc

Then her cc was gutted because she was too strong in pro play

So now Sej has comparable cc to pre rework, way less damage, and way less tank

Hence, she went from my one of my most played champs to something I literally never play willingly, even in ARAMs

I stopped playing after the rework too. I played the reworked version for a little while but I just don't like it at the end of the day. I REALLY miss the old W and the old ult. I didn't mind the old E either. The kit is overly complicated for what she does now. Even her point and click abilities won't work and other times it will. Kind of like Warwick's Q. When all of the conditions are met for the ability to work as intended, nothing happens or there is a weird delay.

Old Sejuani doesn't need damage to turn a game around. It seems like that would be easier to balance around than the current iteration.

I stopped as well. She used to be fun, I could even go top lane with her and best the crap out of people. Now she's nothing to me. Looks like a pure trash champ

Sejuani has the lowest winrate of any jungler in the game at the moment, but this is something Riot hopes to address in Season 9, so don't worry, your favorite boar riding warrior will be back on the Rift in no time!

but the whole point really is shes not fun to play like her old version...

It wasn't and Riot is 100% incapable of admitting mistakes.

Linna Excel3 votes

This annoys me the most. Why can't riot just admit when a rework is a mistake?

Thefrostyviking6 votes

OP basically the rework was a terrible failure.

The idea was to cut power from the ulti into her kit and make said kit more interactive, but then they add that passive and it ends up breaking her all the way to hell and back being impossible to kill when stacked with stoneplate+aftershock so they had to gut her completely but also really dont want to revert or rework her.

WorksAtAGayBar3 votes

One of the positives I can see is they took some power oflut of her ult and could place it into the rest of her kit. Her old ult restricted Riot from a lot changes they could make. Since it was so powerful.

FilDaFunk19 votes

I mean, they didn't exactly put the power back into her kit.

AmetDeCrypt1 votes

a lot of it went into the passive, the w passive stack, and the E auto proc which does WAY more damage than the initial hit and her e can be spammed now.

so kinda? remember at one point and I think still sejuani is the only champion that could get six hundred armor level 1 without any items.

It took power from her ult and put it in basic abilities but the current jungle meta just dosnt favour her . I hope this pre season she can be adjusted to be a competitive pick again.

Who cares if she's not fun to play? Old Sej was fun, new Sej isn't.

That's definitely a matter if opinion many people loved the new sej just her play style did not fit the current meta except in pro were she was overbearing. She will be addressed.

Having your champ reworked to have a higher skillfloor gating you out of playing the champ at all and a clunky team reliant kit is not something I'd call a success. Since they gated me out of being able to play her she'll never be playable again for me without a revert, and I doubt they'll do that, for me she was deleted so the skins I got for her were a huge waste of money. So yeah riot can sit and spin on the middle finger I'm giving them for that one.

mack91121 votes

What about her are you struggling with ?

I do jungle alot maybe we can do some games together and work out some kinks ?

Cavesloth2 votes

I cannot land her W on targets 90 percent of the time, its far too clunky. It was made as 2 two part skillshot when it was new to HAVE a two part skillshot, and it feels like "Hey we coded a 2 part skillshot lets use it" "does it feel fun to use?" "Nope its super annoying to land the second part, most of our playerbase won't be able to land it, but the pros will so WHO CARES!"

Then there's the team reliant E. I play norms by myself. Outside of a coordinated team environment, its garbage. So between that, and her W, I HATE HALF HER KIT.

Then there's how it all goes together. She used to be Either Q in then W, then E, Or Ult, possible Q in, W then E. Now, I have no fucking clue. No matter what I do, it's wrong and I usually die.

I'm not some guy that can mash buttons quickly in the right order unless the order is ALWAYS the same. I do NOT enjoy "streetfigher" style games like league has become. I want slow strategy, trades, etc. Not BOOM you're dead in 2 seconds from someone who hasn't even built items yet and just mashed all their keys. I'm old, and my reaction time is no longer what it used to be, there are plenty of games out there made for the damn kids with lightning reaction times, league didn't need to become one of them.

Oh and her OOOOOOOOOOH so fun passive that makes squisher than dogs squeeky toy once her temporary shield has been broken means theres EVEN MORE shit I have to deal with and keep track of.

She was a VERY simple, VERY easy to play champ. Now she's designed to be used by pros only. There IS NO FIX for that other than a FULL revert.

My champ was deleted, she was my second highest mastery champ before the rework. Now I haven't played her since, and I probably never will again barring a full revert. Not only of Sej as a character, but season 8 as a whole.

mack91121 votes

Her skill set is definitely one of the easier ones in the games I don't feel like we are even talking about the same champ.

I barely see people miss her basic ability skill shots...

Your complaint is that the champion became harder to play and instead of getting better and learning you just wish to complain.

That definitely sounds like a personal problem that you are deflecting onto riot.

Cavesloth2 votes

Why should I have to suddenly get better to play a champ I already knew how to play just fine? Because a bunch of assholes wanted another champ to be overpowering in pro play so they'd have to nerf it so NOBODY could play it? Yeah that's ALL on me lols. You're just another mindless Riot schill who will defend w/e they crap out.

mack91121 votes

In a competitive game skill caps should increase as time progresses to prevent stagnation.

I am just being sensible in all this .

Cavesloth1 votes

So I should get skilled BEYOND my ability just because the developer didn't feel I deserved to be able to play the champion that I payed for skins for? Yeah, fuck them. And you wonder why I'm mad. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that out. This wasn't the old champ of mine they skill gated me out of playing, or completely changed the playstyle to something that isn't fun for me.

Edit: no wonder you think she's fine and ez, you're plat ie better than 80 percent of the playerbase. I'm silver1 on my best day, and I will never get higher than that.

mack91121 votes

Listen mah man I was silver for 5 years trust me it can be done all you have to do is apply yourself !

You can do anything you set your mind to trust me i remember I had a season I got placed in bronze but I climbed my sorry ass out.

I know the game is harder but that is the point of a competitive game to be challenged and to become better !

Cavesloth1 votes

Yeah I tried that. Didn't work out that way. I don't tend to get better at things without someone showing me HOW to become better, and since all my friends who got me hooked to league ditched it long before I did (in retrospec I should have too, but what other game is free and runs on a toaster), that's not happening.

mack91121 votes

I hear ya it's hard to know where start

I know your done with the game but if you ever wanna give it another shot shoot me a message and I would be more than happy do some game with ya try and work some kinks out ... I am just a filthy plat though XD

How so ?

FNC 6ixGOD2 votes

Before all the nerfs and warmog nerf, I had a 76% WR over 140 games. After the nerfs I won like 1 out of 4 games because you are squishy untill you're full build ans then the enemy already has magic and armor pen. AND your cc has been taken away so yeah. Sad.... but useless champion.

Sejuani is one of the poor unfortunate victims to riot's failed reworks. I'd avoid picking her until she gets a buff (not happening because of pros) or has her rework reverted. She's just not fun to play anymore nor is she good.

preach on. her w feels like shit. it wouldnt be half bad if her Q counted toward an E stack. Her ult is one of the worst in the game. A single target cc on a massive cd? Good job riot on ruining one of the funnest champs to play. Now you're about to ruin volibear and pantheon...my other go to champs. I guess I'm going to end up quitting this game at this rate.

As most of the people in this thread have already stated, Sejuani's rework was a complete and utter failure.

Riot made her less fun, harder for newer players, less rewarding, less satisfying. The list for everything Riot fucked up is really quite a long one.

Riot would honestly do well to revert the rework or at the very least put Old Sejuani through testing in the current state of the game. Back then we didn't have current Talisman, Runes, Tank Itemization. It's one of the big reasons I always hated class updates - because Riot drastically changed itemization and champion kits in the same patch without ever checking if the itemization changes made the champions stronger/better/healthier.

Daddy, tell me a story... Okay listen there, kid. I'll tell you how dreams can be destroyed.

There was this woman... really strong woman. From a land called Freljord. She rides a big boar (or poro) called Bristle, carrying her big flail. Freezing enemies that would stand on her path...

She was my favourite woman. I used to dream about her. Her posters would hang on every wall pf my room. I often looked deeply into her eyes, softly touching the cheeks saying: "Sejuani! I'll play you tomorrow! This is gonna be great!"

But then a horrible thing happened! They decided to change her... into something else...

Her bola became so small, she could only restrain one person with it! Lost all her power to powerfully swing the flail around, all she could do is swing it twice! Once powerful AOE slow, became a single target stun

I already knew that power was gone... She is not strong anymore...

But deep in my heart... I still believe...

44% win rate. And lesson for today my son is, never get too attached to a champion, because Rito may destroy your dreams.

Sejuani In a memory of the only queen
