Pyke's Bone Skewer hitbox makes no sense

I've played for some time now and every time i play against a Pyke I rage, His Q works even when it doesn't come in contact with the player. This has been a problem for some time now and i don't know why Riot hasn't done anything about it.

Pyke activating his Q, Clearly missing: https://gyazo.com/a6706dce1cf289fbf60c3605bf55a9e1 Pyke hitting his Q anyways: https://gyazo.com/420121141e1d967d040e6c3bd4b7d405

So a few things are important to note here.

  • Champion hitboxes only come in a few sizes, and those sizes may not be 100% represented by the visuals of the champion, especially not when in-motion. Notice Gnar is in mid-hop here, meaning he's not touching the ground. This feeds into the following point:
  • League's hit and hitbox calculations are 2D, not 3D. Even if Gnar looks like he's above the ground (and the camera angle helps), his hit box is still at the center of his "actual" location.
  • Skillshots often are a tiny bit forgiving around the animation.

In this case, the skillshot (plus a small radius of forgiveness) seems like it clearly intersects where Gnar's hit circle actually is. The visual is a bit frustrating, but that's just part of how League has always worked.

Well, spaghetti coding and weird visuals are inherent part of League experience. I bet you have not been around to witness Nida's OG spears, huh?

Well, nope. :V

Those were the days, in jungle paths she didn't even had to aim, the spear would hit anyway.
