How do you beat a good Jayce?

So a friend of a friend who is a higher rank than me always plays Jayce whenever we do customs. As some of you may know, I main Sion and this fight usually goes poorly for me. He kinda just screws me over with his high damage and knockbacks.

So how do you fight a good Jayce?

You do your best to avoid his Q, if he uses Q in hammer stance use your shield, E him, and then charge up your Q, he will be forced to use his E in hammer stance, don't be afraid to weave in some auto attacks. After six force his E and then ult him. Jayce can be annoying for some people, but playing the match up strategically will help a lot. By the way you should rush SFC and then get a Thornmail, he will do no damage and his own AA from range will kill him while going in melee is suicide.

Jayce is basically a Varus with a longer CD poke but better 1v1 potential. Jayce is most potent before 6, since he already has an R and is probably top lane vs a melee top laner.

Jayce's damage in hammer stance (and overall really) is very bursty with his only sustainable damage being his W and autos. Forcing him to fight longer while in hammer form both negates his his poke and puts him in an awkward state if he's already used his burst. He also has very little damage early if he misses E + Q in cannon form, since all he has is 3 autos with his W, and then a switch to hammer stance if he wants to maintain damage output. If he's using abilities that much to trade, he will be highly succeptible to going oom, especially if you can deny him hammer autos.

Jayce also lacks any form of innate sustain, so if you can force him to fight, and if you have innate sustain, you'll end up outlasting him, especially if you can force him to use abilities.

Another decent way to beat burst is to use burst. Any champion that can gapclose on him quickly can probably just burst him down. Some players are disuaded by burst and choose to opt out of potentially good trades.

As far as Sion goes, I'm no expert but I feel certain you'd be more useful in most team comps than Jayce, since his only utility is a group speed up cannon E and a knock back in hammer E.

That's about all I got. Kind of just have to treat him like Gnar and just wait out the lane. Jayce tends (or at least as I recall) to fall off later in the game once his mid game spike runs out. Since the meta build seems to not use Muramana, that takes away a lot of sustainable damage with the passive and mana sustain for him. Those just reinforce former points. Hope that helps.

Sion gets slammed by jayce's mixed damage and minor crowd control effects.
