I still really miss old Aatrox man.

You guys ever hear about the saying, 'you never know what you have until it's gone'? Yeah well, that's all I've been feeling ever since the Aatrox rework.

I don't think I've ever been a competitive person when it came to ranked queues but when I had Aatrox in my hands, my drive and passion was solely devoted on being the best that I could be on that champion even if all I played was predominantly norms. From my humble beginnings in S3 where I first discovered Aatrox to the peaks of S5 and S7 (where major changes occurred, including the Aatrox light rework), somewhere down the line playing Aatrox was synonymous to playing LoL itself to me. As my passion waned over the years and my jealousy and hatred towards reworks and releases pushing out more and more powerful kits grew, I was super hyped for the rework when I heard about it early this year. Although I heard the words of the devs and knew Aatrox was going on a big departure to what I knew and loved, I still wanted to believe that it could instill the satisfaction of the champion whom I spent all these years enjoying and mastering. Unfortunately to this day, it still doesn't scratch my itch. I've tried other champions in the meantime but there's just nothing. It's amazing to think about but seriously, within the 142 champion roster there is not ONE champion that makes me feel like I did playing old Aatrox, not one. Despite how similar some champions get, they just never resonated with me and it's pretty interesting to think about how Riot Jag actually hit the nail on the head with why I enjoyed Aatrox in the first place.

It's not just me, a lot of us other Aatrox mains are just here... waiting for something to happen. Maybe we're just the old breed needing to die out but damn, I miss old Aatrox man.

Same for old Urgot I am not saying new one is bad, but old one had absolutely different playstyle and was way more unique.

The sad thing is he was finally being played and was actually good when they finally reworked him. Truly tragic.

Old Aatrox was so very different. I miss so many aspects of him. I was never an Aatrox main. I didn't play too much of him but I always had fun when I did.

I felt a bit how you do when they removed the old Twisted Treeline over 6 years ago. I loved that game mode, and the replacement isn't anything close to the same even though I still enjoy it. It's sad losing these things.

This is why I am not looking forward to another Mordekaiser rework.

You're not alone man. I miss his uniqueness too.

Riot didn't rework him. They destroyed and replaced him. That's not the definition of the word 'Rework'; damn, they even admitted it on that video where ghostcrawler and meddler talked about every champ.

I loved Aatrox before and I had to learn him after. Initially I wasn't thrilled about the change but I like he has more personality that isn't atypical of a God of war.

On the surface Aatrox seems hella angry but as you play him you here several lines where he takes about his desire to look normal again, his hate of all the bodies he's had to take over, his sassy levels, and his actual love of his brothers.

I did like the silent strong aura of previous Aatrox but I like that he's more vocal about his torment. I've learned to take reworks in stride and try to focus on the positives of them.

I remember the last day Aatrox existed before the reworked was patched out. I played 4 last games.

The first game was me, picking Aatrox, against Tryndamere. Besides the lore thing, Tryndamere is a melee top laner. The second game was me, picking Aatrox, against Quinn, a ranged marksmen top laner. The third game was me, picking Aatrox, against Ornn, a tank top laner.

At this point, I had used Aatrox to face all 3 types of top laners. I had won each game. It was kinda ritualistic.

So, I queued up for the last game. This time, I wanted to face Aatrox. I got red side, 2nd position from the top, so only their first pick could take Aatrox before me, and they did. So, I picked my main, Kayle, and faced Aatrox head on. I can't say I won lane (Old Aatrox counters Kayle), but my team did win the game.

Simply how reworks go sadly. A lot of the times they struggle to capture the same feel for the champion. Gp, Soraka, Yorick, and Warwick are all pretty good examples of a rework done right imo as they keep a similar feel. As for Raka and GP it's mostly in part of their most iconic parts being kept the same which isn't always great as seen with how Zac mains handled his.

When we compare Old Sion, Swain, Aatrox, Galio, and maybe Poppy(I can't input on Poppy as I rarely played Old Poppy) they playstyle has changed drastically.

Was a Sion OTP up until his rework. Old Sion was a sustain fighter or a burst mage based on how you played him. New Sion is a CC tank. While full AD/AP are options there's little reason to go for them outside of the occasional cheese gameplay. The only thing Sion has when compared to old Sion is his exploding shield, 100% lifesteal, and infinite health scaling. New Sion also has much more personality, diversity, skill expression, etc. While the champion is great and brought a lot more people to the champion it had the same issue as a lot of reworks in that it isolated part of the community who enjoyed the old champion.

Aatrox is actually still there. Actually he is the very first champion that you see bcs his name starts with two A(s). And it's funny how Aatrox got more popular for the first time since ever but his three old mains don't like him now when he is actually any good.

Old Aatrox was nothing more but a Tryndamere copy, wrapped up in a more edgy package. Another stat check right click to win champion, much like Jax Tryndamere MasterYi Udyr . Hence the reason why Hashinshin liked him, and why he plays Jax. Because he cannot handle a champion that takes precision and timing to play properly. I bet the poor fellow will have an emotional breakdown when Riot decide to finally delete and replace rework the abomination that is Jax.

And to that i say, good riddance. I do not feel like it's fair that someone should be allowed to play the game on easy mode. There is a difference between a champion being "not hard to learn", and a champion being a straight up no-brainer. Old Aatrox was a no-brainer stat check champion, and Riot knew that the moment he was buffed, he would become far too obnoxious, which is why he got reworked into the well rounded champion he is today.

New Aatrox is an amazing example of what a modern well designed fighter should play like. Old Aatrox was an example of a failed, rushed and poorly thought out design.

I certainly was not a main but old Aatrox playstyle was so much more fun and had more finesse about him, new one is awkward and clunky to me. Shame.

Reworks can be hit and miss, I found old York weird but love the new one, old Evelynn vs new is about the same. For me new Aatrox is a miss but for others he's the kind of thing that they were looking for.

Power Cosmic12/28/2018, 5:23:31 PM4 votes

I feel the same. Other reworks can't relate to how bad we were treated. Brushed all his old mains, who were also loyal LoL fans, aside to chase a little money.

KFCeytron12/28/2018, 5:36:45 PM4 votes

If you want a champ who has a heal every third hit, a line skillshot slow, a charge, a knockup, and an AoE dueling ult, try Xin Zhao.

Aseraan12/28/2018, 6:53:04 PM3 votes

I miss old graves new one is just cancer.

MrGerund12/28/2018, 2:58:45 PM3 votes

hey, atleast the new aatrox is fun to play and his skillset feels more 'darkin' (more laid out skillshots, less auto'ing)

Glory9712/28/2018, 9:35:01 PM3 votes

I hope that this rework gets reverted.

I think the aatrox rework is terribly designed. He has no Late-game-identity at all. Unlike riven his animations are way too clunky to ever be a reliable "oneshot backline"-diver. Also he isn't really good as a fighter/ splitpusher, cause he doesn't scale with attackspeed and will loose 1v1 against almost every other splitpush-champion like Fiora Tryndamere in later stages of the game Nor does he have engage/ good gapcloser or any use as tank

This rework is very similar to the lb-rework. If the numbers are balanced to the point that they are fair to play against in laning phase, the winrate will be below that of ryze, because snowballing the earlygame out of control is the only wincondition these 2 kits can offer. (not saying that old/reverted lb is healthy)

I still have my crit aatrox plays saved :(

Sewer Side12/28/2018, 7:40:00 PM2 votes

Play Tryndamere. Really no difference.

I build the new aatrox like the old and max e, i want to get that feeling back but its not the same :(

Lord Zeta 131312/29/2018, 10:16:37 PM2 votes

Aatrox's old kit was simple and unhealthy

All he ever did was Q-E autospam

The only skill expression in his kit was his W and Revive

I personally like the new Aatrox, and i think that they kept the core mechanic, healing, alive

Oh, don't get me wrong I actually really like the current Aatrox, it just feels regrettable that I can't have the old one as well. They play so differently from each other and are pretty different in personality and drive that I wonder why they didn't just make the new Aatrox a different champion. It's just... there's no substitute for the champion that made me really fall in love with League in the first place.

{quoted}

They could have given him all those new voice lines and story without reworking his kit. Give the new kit to Tryndamere or better yet a new champion entirely. Or rework Swain again for all I care Kappa. Actually, please revert Swain and give his kit to a new champ or replace Vlad's kit with it.

I understand that feel. I've been on league since Season 3. I quit when Soraka hit a bad place and swore off the game when Vi went in the toilet too. Even Varus/Aatrox wasn't enough to make me look at the game.

But I look at Aatrox like this;

Each year champs can get more and more complex because Riot has better programming/coding each year. While I do miss the point and click days of League I do understand their need to constantly improve and revamp champs to keep up.
