Title, I've loved veigar ever since I was a wee nub. I got back to the game not long ago, hit g1, and practially plat5.
His damage is amazing and such, but the glaring issue is how he's always countered, and he needs items, but could he be viable at higher tiers?
he takes too long to ramp, and gets stomped in lane by fairly meta mid laners like pantheon, talon, zed and kassadin
it feels like a cointoss, where you hope your team doesn't feed too much until you get a boatload of AP ASAP

But I don't see why not. If Annie can be taken to Masters, so can Veigar. Veigar was also picked in the LCK recently (although esports is a different game almost).

You will really need a backup for those matchups where he just wont work, but he is fairly viable.
Also i enjoy springing support veigar on unsuspecting fools (lucian), but i am only gold V..
Yes, if you get good enough with almost any champ you can play him, 99% of us dont play at top leagues where picking meta champs has as much impact as knowing how to play your champ well. I'd rather you play a champ you know inside out rather than jumping on some bandwagon champ and trying to copy others.
Oh wait, yo solo renekton plays a decent amount of veig top lane, so I mean.. it might actually be viable since the guy is high elo

Veigar can be really strong, yes. But the problem is hes sitting Duck for 5 secounds when he has his combo out. In higher elos they abuse that. But lower elos? :D Have fun ^^
His stun gate is high utility and has good range so even if you're getting behind in the AP nuke department you are still a fully useful member of the team in fights. IMO this combined with his ult that can be pretty effective even when behind makes him as viable as any other.
He has pretty good wave clear too so he won't get run over by push and roam champs.
