AFAIK Thornmail as an item exists mainly as a counter to ADCs lifestealing; so why not make it inflict GW on the attacker instead of reflecting damage? Let's be honest here, Rammus is the only one who actually uses the damage reflection, and that's only because he builds tons of armor anyway and because he has his own damage reflection skill.

It would counter sustain based champs. I would hate to be Swain and lose half my healing because I autoed a tank with thornmail. Or Vlad but I hate him too much to ever play him.

That still makes autoattack based champions pretty useless. 
Tanks can already be unkillable, don't need more of that by removing the only hard counter to them.

Seriously, the only class that would be affected by this are ADCs, which is exactly what Thornmail was supposed to do in the first place.

Thornmail wasn't meant to counter lifesteal, it was meant to be countered by lifesteal itself. So I seriously don't see the point of this post.
