Yeah, this is a huge problem. It's like they think the game is too "boring" if numbers aren't high on damage charts. See WoW for a past reference. The game was "more" balanced when numbers were low, HP was low, damage was low, etc. The game became much harder to tweak and fine tune when numbers went up. Sure .. there was a battleground that lasted for day(s) but it was freaking EPIC! (Then nobody wanted to play once it became a zerg fest). My point here is that speeding the game up, making it more "appealing" to a certain fanbase, increasing damage, etc.. all leads to one thing : Your core game design has became destroyed and people no longer enjoy the game for what it currently is, only because of what it was and the hope of what it can be again.
Long story short, it's as if game developers feel the need to change the game too much to compete with the game becoming stale. In all honesty, the game being great when I started is the only reason I'm playing now. If I had picked up this game today and started playing, I'd quit pretty fast. My addictions > brain, apparently.
Still waiting on that major game company to step up and go "Guys, somewhere along the path we lost our way. Let's get back to the core of what made our game so popular and addictive." Most of the time it's repackaged poop with perfume that we get , however.
