This game is balanced like garbage and Riot refuses to do anything about it.

Tanks don't die unless they're fighting an ADC or half the team.

Bruisers build one damage item and they can 100-0 anyone until 35 minutes into the game, but by that time they have 4k health on top of their damage, which never really fell off because they have great base scaling.

Assassins are in two camps: Camp 1 is where they're useless until 40 minutes in and camp 2 is where they're so stifling to the game that if they get ahead by even the slightest margin, they carry the game.

Mages 100-0 people from an entire lane's length away after they hit them with CC starting at level 6.

ADCs build two items and suddenly their crits are taking off half to 3/4ths of someone's health.

Champions with percent damage or true damage build for survivability and walk all over everyone because their percent damage just flat-out wins.

And the 50-75 champions that don't end up with the ability to abuse any of the above are so bad that they're either hyper-niche counter-picks or just aren't played at all period.

So instead of doing something about these issues, Riot turns a blind eye and says "Trust us, everything is OK!"

What exactly is your design philosophy? Lee Sin, for example, shouldn't be able to build Warrior and then go tank and be able to press Q R Q and kill people, nor should he be able to hit someone, launch them into someone else, and deal 500 damage to the target that he didn't even hit with his R at level 11. Irelia shouldn't be able to hit 9 and 1v2 because she has Hiten Style at level 5. Kha'Zix and LeBlanc shouldn't be snowballing the moment they hit level 2. Lux and Xerath shouldn't hit 6 and instagib someone through a minion wave from half a lane away. Yi and Shyvana shouldn't be able to build Bloodrazor and go full tank. Fizz and Ekko shouldn't go full tank and see major success. Shaco shouldn't be useless until he has 3 items building AP. Vayne, Draven, and Jhin shouldn't be snowballing after Shiv+IE

Don't even get me started on champions like Poppy, Zac, Vi, Hecarim, and Yasuo... OR JAYCE.

What on earth kind of balancing is going on in this game?

I agree 90% but.. Fizz is seeing major success going full tank?

"Tanks don't die unless fighting the ADC or half the team"

.... I'm not sure how that's a complaint since that's usually what tanks are played for.

Stephenizgod5 votes

Yea I was confused by this too, is that not the Tanks primary job? to not die unless the ADC kills them? Isn't that one of the ADC's primary job? to kill the tank?

WoonStruck1 votes

The problem comes with the base damage behind them. This is often due to items like item 3057 item 3068, etc paired with the naturally high upfront base damage of most tanks.

ADC's primary job is not to kill the tank, its to take objectives easier. The whole "ADC's job is to kill tanks" is bullshit Riot started spewing in season 3, since prior tanks had high resists and extremely high regen, meaning they simply wouldn't die in teamfights unless the teamfight was already over.

Stephenizgod1 votes

Why is it bullshit? I think the ADC should be able to kill tanks as they lay down the highest sustained DPS in the game. That means they should eventually be able to kill anything. The issue we have now is that Marksmen have too much burst on top of their incredible sustained DPS so they kill tanks fast, and kill squishies even faster. Tanks should be there to stop the enemy from jumping on their backline and to disrupt the enemies, if they can't die easily, games will never end. We saw this with the Tank Meta back when everyone was picking tanks and games would go on 60min+.

Fizz and Ekko shouldn't go full tank and see major success

Update your game dude

And how long did those two picks reign supreme before finally being touched? It's an example of gigantic prior mistakes.

WestwardZephyr3 votes

Doesn't this belong in Memes and Games? Because the amount of hyperbole you used made this the most laughable post I've read in a while.

I mean, Silver support main. Definitely knows what's up.

Yes, because knowledge and rank are one and the same thing. /s

Please take anyone else's words with a grain of salt. You're defending your OP without giving much reason as to why; it's not a very good argumentative strategy.

I know I'm pretty bad at the game, but you can't really believe that everything you put into this post is accurate, right? Like the mages. What mage can really 100-0 someone from a lane away? And adcs, what adc can build two items and actually crit for 3/4ths of someone's health? I agree there are some balance issues that need to be looked at, but you really can't believe this stuff is true, right?

ChickenWrap2 votes

I gave examples right in the OP...

WestwardZephyr2 votes

Yeah- incorrect examples. Neither Lux or Xerath can "instagib" someone through minions from a lane away. To kill someone at level 6, they need to use their entire kit, which in both cases is far from instant, and necessary parts of their kit cannot go through minions- lux's q and xerath's stun, for example.

ChickenWrap2 votes

I mean, yes they can. Their combos also take from the time you're CC'd to the time it ends or sooner to kill you. That's a clean 100-0 with no way to react when it happens, but OK.

This isn't exactly a fair argument, given how awful the balance has been in the past. Riot is honestly trying to balance this game that millions of people love, but it's huge and has a lot of moving parts that are VERY difficult to keep in relative strength. On top of that, they like to update anything that feels stale, and sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

The current problems mainly stem from the fact that it's still preseason, where a lot of new content is added and doesn't always get balanced well in the internal testing. On top of that, people on the boards always whine about anything that sticks out in the meta and seem to expect it to get fixed within the hour. It doesn't work that way. There's also a longer break in between patches for the holiday season, and the last patch before this break was where Camille came out stronger than she should be and people started to realize just how incredibly strong the support item reworks were.

Yes, there are balance problems that need addressing, but claiming Riot doesn't know what they're doing is, quite frankly, a very uniformed lie. They've made mistakes in the past, and they will continue to make mistakes because no one is perfect. The trick is learning from those mistakes and finding good ways to fix them without making something else too oppressive.

ChickenWrap5 votes

But these things have been a problem for awhile now. Most of which have been before preseason.

Claiming Riot doesn't know what they're doing isn't a lie. They make a lot of poor decisions in nerfing champions and not even touching others. They shouldn't make mistakes. They have the PBE to deal with issues before it hits live. They allow problems to pass through PBE and then let them go to live and fix it multiple patches later. Changes shouldn't go through at all unless they've been tested properly.

And because of that, the game is in a horrendous state. They can fix it oh so easily, but they don't, they won't, and they haven't.

Dynamiku Entry4 votes

Why should they try to fix it when people keep buying Teemo hoodies and Yasuo figurines

Ralanr4 votes

PBE isn't for balance. It's for bugs.

ChickenWrap3 votes

What kind of a joke is that?

Ralanr3 votes

It's not. It's reality.

Feel free to laugh though. Might be better than screaming.

VoidStaresBack1 votes

The people on the PBE aren't selected for skill level or anything like that, the balancing info given by them is almost always utterly worthless because there's such a huge range. It does, however, work quite well to test coding bugs, since that many people playing with stuff will eventually ferret out a lot of bugs in new additions.

Nope its Season 7 actually, preseason was very short and is now over.

Riot does know what they are doing though, they explained it themselves. Basically in order to achieve a certain level of variety, certain champions needs to be underpowered 90% of the time and other champions needs to be better and too strong. This actually creates variety to a degree they are comfortable with I believe because it leaves a large middle ground where you ban the op champs and don't play the underpowered champs. The issue is how many champions are in the game, it is too much to balance completely. They should stop releasing new champions as frequently, like 2 a year maybe, and focus on trying to get the game to a point where these glaring issues like the OP stated (albeit somewhat exaggerated) are not as big of a problem. There is a point when there are just too many champions with too many different mechanics that cause large issues in game health, we are beyond that point lol

Riot is retarded and they have been for the full 5 years and some odd months that I've known them now. They know what they are doing? Did you know that they intentionally gimped some champions for YEARS, not weeks, not even months, YEARS because they INTENTIONALLY released them in a broken state only to nerf them into an even more broken state later?

They need to stop releasing content and fix their shit.

Stephenizgod2 votes

Why do you care? You clearly seem very upset over this, why not just stop playing and go play something else. Riot doesn't really owe you anything, they have no obligations to you are any of us players. It is their game, they can do what they want with it as long as we keep playing. I get annoyed with the balance state sometimes too but I don't get this hatred of Riot... If the game was so bad you wouldn't be playing it.

Except I already stopped playing over a year ago?????

???????????

These are the most retarded responses I keep seeing pop up in forums. Wanting needed improvements for the game and they say "why don't you just quit then?" That's literally what someone would say when they have no counter argument so they say this stupid shit.

Stephenizgod1 votes

Then what are you doing on the boards bitching and moaning about a game you don't play anymore?

Wanting improvements is fine, I want the game to improve too. I just don't see a point in hating League as it is, hating Riot, and bitching on the boards... At that point go away... you are just being annoying.

Yep, Basically Riot can remove 60-70% of champions and no one will notice.

While I do think that what you say about how each class is balanced is true, I don't think its a new phenomena, or that balance has been particularly worse recently than it had been in past seasons (by recently I mean late season 6 really, preseason is fucky)

WoonStruck1 votes

Balance has been horrible for a while, but they keep balacing things around these horribly balanced things, making horrible balance a core part of the game.

They still haven't tried digging themselves out of the hole they've dug. They just keep digging deeper in, pitifully clinging to the hope that they can dig all the way through to the other side of the world of problems they've created before they burn up.

Stephenizgod1 votes

I think the most problematic class is Marksmen. If they fixed them and balanced them towards their true goals, Objectives and Sustain DPS in teamfights as well as being one of the only classes able to kill Tanks, they could solve issues with other classes such as Assassins and Divers. Right now Marksmen are just bursting anyone who jumps on them except Tanks who they legitimately DPS down in 4-5 shots (lol). This means majority of Assassins and Divers feel useless, the only ones who don't feel useless are the ones like LeBlanc, Kha'zix, or Camille who do so much raw damage so quickly with many ways to survive a fight its damn near impossible to fight them as anyone.

Mages actually fall into two categories in my opinion: Those with extremely high damage potential on low counterplay abilities (Lux E or Syndra R), and those who have high damage potential on normal to high counterplay abilities. The ones who fall into the first category are the ones currently dominating mid lane. By low counterplay I mean your only choices are flash before they even use them or buy item 3157 to just negate their damage (and then die after its over lol), otherwise pray they fail miserably. If low counterplay abilities didn't have such high potential damage, I think Mages wouldn't be that much of an issue.

The only "tanks" that are a problem are Poppy and pseudo-tanks or Bruisers. Basically champions that build one damage item then full tank and are impossible to kill while dealing the most damage in the game still. DON'T GET THESE CHAMPIONS CONFUSED WITH JUGGERNAUTS. Juggernauts like Darius, Yorick, and Illaoi are supposed to be building one or two damage items then straight tank. Darius is too strong right now, but he is performing his juggernaut duties perfectly (it is just too perfectly :D). They are supposed to be immobile and easy to kite, which they are, while dealing massive damage if you get too close. Champions like Hecarim or Vi are huge problems when they do this because they have Mobility and CC, they build tank without sacrificing damage and that is basically a Juggernaut Diver which is toxic. Poppy is a problem because of how tanky she really is, there isn't really much you can do about her and she gets to just deal a shit ton of sustained damage for free.

%hp damage and true damage are good mechanics when implemented correctly. Some of them need to be tuned a bit more, but I think generally it is an ok mechanic.

Like i said in another comment, Riot does know what they are doing, and they have explained it in several different posts.

Delimon1 votes

Meanwhile the last time I checked up on League I saw that they buffed irelia (like really?????) and that they were buffing champions because they were no longer the #1 pick. . .

If a champion is not #1 anymore that does not mean that it needs buffs, it's called a fucking shift in the meta, how about you stop controlling it like you promised you wouldn't do eh?

WoonStruck1 votes

I've been asking these questions for 3 seasons. Rather than addressing the problems, Riot ignores them and continues to try to tweak champions or the items they use.

Here are some of the largest issues that Riot continues to ignore:

  • Overly efficient tank items due to over-tuned tank-ignoring items like LW/Void

  • lifesteal stacking with crit

  • stacking lifesteal and the feast/famine that is sustain in general

  • amount of CC tacked onto every kit in the game preventing half the melee roster from being able to function if they aren't >objectively broken
