I want to try playing him since I think a perma- drunk bearded man suits my play-style and life-style but I don't see which position he can do well in.
Top? Wouldn't Gnar and anyone without mana constraints own him? Mid? Get poked all day and not enough AP ratio to deal significant damage?
Personally I think jungle or support could work for him but I am not sure Any ideas/advice?

He can out sustain gnar. by just building mana because that's the only thing holding him back. don't play stupid and he'll scale equally well. disengage gnar's engage and your job is done

He builds like Maokai in terms of he wants to rush a Rod of Ages. At that point, he shouldn't have mana problems and can build towards the tanky end of the spectrum (Spirit Visage, Frozen Heart) or more offensive (Iceborn, Lichbane, Zhonya's) depending on how the game is going. Jungle will be interesting to try out after the next patch with the buff to his W and the new jungle tank item.
Pæan1 votesHe is an awesome jungler imo. Good W damage/sustain in jungle and some good CC for ganks. There are also some really good buffs coming in for him soon. His W damage is getting increased vs monsters and his base mana is going to 400 from 299. Those buffs along with the recent slow buff on his Q are awesome.
He is strong as a top laner also. Had a vladamir that kept smacking me and harassing me, but once i got a catalyst i was too tanky and could still burst him.
Once I got a spirit visage his full burst did less than half my hp with my W on and i could still insta burst him :D
