Anyone else tired of Devourer Yi?

ScurvyNave··55 votes·5,170 views

Honestly it just seems a broken item on him.

I'm sick of wining lane as adc but then getting raped by a Yi with a devourer and 2 kills thats all he needs to snowball worse than feral flare udyr!

Can we please either tone the him or the item down?

Honestly, my problem is Sated and BotRK synergy. I could play Amumu with Sated and BotRK and carry the game.

Maybe.

Probably.

Well, I couldn't, but it won't stop me from trying.

Bork does make sated kinda over the top, I don't feel that devourer ist op (but I haven't played much these last few patches) it's mostly the amazing synergy with bork that makes champions do that much damage.

The times I saw devourer yi he had the same counterplay as every though, either isolate & devour (aka catch him in the jungle, not 1v1 mind you) or cc & blow him up.

SlaktarTasken1 votes

Meh, that's pretty meek compared to the hefty nerfs they gave cinderhaulk. I expect minimal impact. :<

Dar Raksada1 votes

it's damage is reduced by 10, but that also means the phantom hit proc will do 20 less damage. If they want to nerf the item further they should nerf it's synergy with bork.

Or better yet, just nerf bork, which is too good at too many things even on people who aren't building devourer.

I would appreciate that change, I feel bork is a bit too strong atm. But I don't really play botlane so I wouldn't know the impact it would have. Hence why I refrained from commenting on it.

Yi is not the problem, Devourer is broken.

Partholonian1 votes

Devourer isn't the problem either, it's the item always built after Devourer that is too powerful without it, and WAY too powerful with it.

item 3153

MechanicalPirate1 votes

So nerf every possible item the can be built after Devourer? That doesn't even makes sense.

Z461 votes

Nerf Titanic Hydra, because it procs on basic attacks and building it with Devourer can abuse it.

Keevalroy6 votes

I'm just tired of Devourer period. Why can't Riot accept that this item is not a good idea to bring into the game? How many iterations has it gone through? How many times did it need nerfed or reworked? Can't you see it won't work? Hasn't it failed enough times yet?

SmokinSickStyle6 votes

To be honest, Devourer is just broken on anybody that can abuse it.

I tell you more, Yi is strong with it yes, but at least he blows up as fast as he blows people, plus he doesn't have any CC.

I find Vi, Shyvana, Xin, Jax and few others much more terrifying, considering the new juggernaut items are a bless for them and on top of that, they can just go full tank BotRK\devourer and still be dealing so much damage that your Zed midlane gets jelly at it and wish he had a kit mechanic to abuse to devourer.

Z463 votes

Really, out of any Devourer junglers, and junglers in general, Yi is easily near the bottom of my list. Complete lack of CC (where even Shyvana has a frequently available knockup with her ult), and it's so easy to just have one or two people build a Thornmail and Ninja Tabi.

Vi has two knockups, including a targeted AoE knockup, %armor penetration and %HP damage, plus the shield from her passive to give her additional tankiness.

Shyvana has %HP magic damage that accompanies her already-high physical damage, and Burnout is on a lower cooldown than Alpha Strike. She's also probably the most reliable champion I've ever used to solo dragon, and I've done it with every Devourer jungler the moment I get Devourer, if not even before then.

Jax has his leap, total autoattack dodging ability, an armor/MR steroid that gets stronger the more damage he has, insane mixed damage, and an AoE stun.

Xin Zhao has innate healing on his basic attacks, a slow on his targeted dash, knockup and AoE knockback.

Yi does not have any of this outside of the blink from Alpha Strike. He has combination healing and damage reduction; it's stopped by any hard CC or a source of true damage, both of which many mid laners have in their kits and Ignite, and most top laners and supports have plenty of CC, too. So do plenty of junglers. Alpha Strike can dodge things, but if he doesn't use it well it very easily backfires on him. He has no true safety features over other junglers.

Vi is terrible with devourer she is a ganker not a farmer and she gains nothing from autos. Vi is meant to snowball lanes with early ganks not farm. Devourer is not broken, weak, nor strong it is just decent. Devourer junglers take a while to hit their powerspike and there are many ways a team can deal with devourer jungler. Tl:DR Devourer isn't OP you just lack sufficient skill in dealing with it. Learn to adapt and grow not bitch and complain.

SmokinSickStyle1 votes

Nice words dude.

But i never stated that i can't bear with the state of the current devourer.

Vi is not terrible with devourer, and if you didn't notice, afk farming was nerfed hard by season 5 making camp spawns incredibly long.

You can have devourer and still be able to gank, the atk speed and the initial magic damage on hit is actually not bad for an item meant for later power.

There's no problem with devourer right now simply because the majority of junglers are playing with it.

The real problem is the lack of meaningful choice, which is always the main one.

Cinderhulk too good?

People start to play CH only junglers.

Warrior too strong?

Warrior only junglers.

And the cycle continues.

True balance is when i can pick whatever i like without being at severe disadvantage for not picking the best out there.

If mine is "bitch and complain" then i wonder which words you would use for more serious matters.

Devourers stats given are not that good for ganks compared to Warrior which Vi excels at. Cinder-hulk is a good alternative if you want to be more tanky for those mid to late game dives. She does not scale well with autos so devourer is a poor choice compared to her other options. AFK farming still exists although no where near the levels of season 4. We are at a point in the meta where there are viable cinderhulk, warrior, runglaive, and to a lesser extent devourer junglers. Devourer junglers are only rampant below diamond in low elo where most do not know how to deal with the easily countered devour-er junglers but they still do well in pugs due to the disorganization. For serious matters I use what is appropriate but for players with a scrub mentality bitch and complain is a perfect fit.

I think its more because the item is just the ultimate snowball tool with very few weaknesses. I don't believe Riot would nerf something just cause "Bronzies" are crying. They balance around the upper levels of play.

Upper levels of play see the item as pretty meh and it really is only "OP" below daimond where all of the players that do not know how to counter it which is sad since devourer has plenty of counters.

A Miss Fortune9 votes

I think I see more high elo players complain about it than low elo players, specifically because higher elo players will analyze something like "Okay, why did I die" and then question how they can counterplay Sated Devourer to prevent losing to it again, coming to a conclusion that there isn't a whole lot of room to counterplay it.

You can't build defensively against Physical, Magic, and True damage, you can't build offensively without getting one-shot, you can't counter jungle them because it only takes like 12 minutes to get Sated anyways.

You obviously don't play jungle. Getting sated at 12 minutes is impossible. My fastest time with Xin is around 16 minutes and that's with 2 dragons and counter-jungling the shit out of the opponents jungle. I'm pretty sure 15 minutes is the absolute fastest you can get it, maybe 14 minutes if you get first blood and can get your items faster.

I actually haven't seen devourer have a big impact in Bronze. Small sample size, but Sated, if it does get completed, doesn't happen until 27-30 minutes. At higher levels and especially pro, it seems to be completed around 20 mins, which has far more impact.

If player understand the mechanic, it works. If not, it's kinda mediocre and pretty easy to counter and put down.

As for Yi specifically, if you have any hard CC, he's pretty mediocre too. Not understanding how to counter champions doesn't make them OP.

Yi can counter-counter CC by:

  1. Purchasing item 3140
  2. Staying out of teamfights and splitpushing
  3. Purchasing item 3111
  4. Many hard CC spells are skillshots or are delayed and Yi can dodge them with Q. For example, Sejuani's ult. One of the very few hard CCs I can remember being instant is Annie's ult when she has her passive up.
Gorgannan3 votes

Um, any random champion might not get sated by 25 minutes, but the majority of Sated picks do. Udyr gets sated by 15 minutes, as does Shyv and Yi.

WW takes a little longer.

That's 90% of the sated picks.

I'm tired of devourer on Warwick. His Ult + Sated Devourer + Wit's End + Blade of the Ruined King can 100-20 you, even if he's 1/6.

Why is this upvoted? The on hit magic damage does apply 5 times during his ult, which is 300 extra damage.

Gixia2 votes

It's upvoted because it's true. It doesn't apply sated. His ult does apply 300 extra damage with Devourer, but it added even more than that with old Devourer, because old Devourer scaled infinitely.

the on hit damage applies but not the phantom hits. If someone is complaining about Warwick in his current state its best to not take that persons opinion into consideration.

It's devourer that's broken. Not Yi. We can remember a time when Sated didn't exist. People complained about Yi but it was generally accepted they were wrong. The only thing that's changed was sated. Therefor, sated is the broken thing. Not yi

junglerboy162 votes

Not really.

80% of the time you can effectively win the game by the time he comes out of the jungle with devourer stacked, and he doesn't have enough impact once he comes out of the jungle to really warrant a nerf.

The ones who are still in a problem spot are Shyvana (because she can build super tanky after two offense items and offers a lot more than just raw damage to a team) and Xin Zhao (because unlike almost every other Devourer user, he can stack very quickly while still having immense gank pressure and scaling excellently into the late game).

Yi offers nothing that either of those two don't, while they both have significant advantages over him (Shyvana and Xin both have absurd damage with Devourer). He has 2 options, either full glass cannon DPS (in which case killing him is as simple as having a Nautilus or Ryze and any old burst mage/assassin) or he builds like a fighter where he's much less susceptible to burst, but also doesn't have the same absurd DPS output, making him much less of a threat.

PiVoRx2 votes

Funny how you complain about devourer Yi when Yi is the champion that gets from devourer almost nothing. Not a single of his passive works with SD (double strike, Q cd, E active) unlike shyv, xin, ww or even vayne, that makes their passives procs faster. So basicly you can arm random champion with SD and BotrK and get exact same results as Yi gets.

And also a quick reminder that before Sated Devourer... Nobody knew that something like Yi exists in this game, even Riot realised it just recently by giving him a skin after 3 years..

TwinkiePro2 votes

Actually, His e active does, and its the fact that he has so much attack speed. combine that with bork, his passive, and ult, and he shreds crazy fast. on top of that, he can tower dive effectively.

Jasiwel2 votes

I've always thought it was a bit much on Yi, especially since it synergizes so well with everything except his heal. The same applies to Kayle. Devourer has just made a mess of a good number of relatively balanced champions.

Yosuke Apperu2 votes

The Item by definition is broken. It breaks a few champions and makes anyone who builds a botrk really strong.

Devourer Yi may be annoying but it is weak as fuck. One hard cc and he is dead. Can he 100-0 you if he catches you out? Sure, but play smart and he will be useless.

Myrddin2 votes

I don't see many yi's, not in my games, not in streams, nothing. Hell i dont even see a lot of devourer jungles

I imagine it will be even less after the nerfs go through.

Okayish item that makes some champs kind of viable, better nerf it.
