Is there any bias here?

Disclaimer:

I've never been much of a fiora fan but I was disappointed with her balancing and splash art during the rework.

However, a while back Riot made a post explaining why they changed fiora's look the way they did and admitted it wasn't perfect. They went on to explain how they had made changes to it and that they acknowledged the player base's outcry at the (lets admit it) ugly splash art.

This post originally made me smile. Not only did it explain Riot's reasoning for what they did but they also admitted they did not exactly hit the nail on the head with Fiora's visual look.

But then.....

I though of another rework which bombed in both visual and gameplay terms and was hated before during and after the rework till this day by the champion's original player base. Thats right, I'm talking about Cassiopeia .

In my opinion she's practically been ostracized by riot ever since her rework. It was a rushed, shoddy affair for the Shiruma event and most players in general will say she now sucks in game-play, balance issues, and lore/ champion identity.

SO WHERE IS THE POST FOR US CASSIOPEIA FANS? ......admittedly I can't expect riot to make a post about every mistake (which Cass's rework is), but it would be nice to see that they aren't picking favourite's when it comes to player feedback and rework attention. Morde is still getting attention but Cass is left in the dust.

I don't need a full scale rework to be happy, nor a promise of one in the future.

However, it would be nice to know that since Fiora's rework, where only the art was an issue, got so much attention and change that maybe we can give some love to our favourite snake lady cause Stashu stomped her into the ground and we haven't seen anything about her since.

As the dude who wrote the Fiora post, I can maybe shed a tiny bit of light on some of this:

My job is telling stories about League and the work that goes on behind the scenes to keep it running, make new stuff, etc. Some of these stories will touch on tough topics like Fiora and the recall bug, some will support new stuff like in-depth looks at Foundations' Bilgewater work or the way artists think about animation. There's no conspiracy about Cass -- her update just happened a year before I got hired.

I told the Fiora story because Fiora's was the first controversial thing that happened after I came onboard. We're making a big effort to do a better job of telling these stories, but it's unlikely that we'll have bandwidth to compile stories from years gone by.

All that said, folks around here do hear feedback (and feel it in really personal ways). Plus, everyone loves the hell out of League. If you're feeling something (good or bad) about a specific champ, someone here is feeling the same thing because they main that champ or have hundreds of hours on him/her. I can't speak to any specific champion update since I don't work on champion updates (I know that's not the ideal answer, right?), but the one thing I can say for sure is that people here are very much paying attention.

There's a huge bias at work here, you can bet on that. Cassiopeia is being treated like dirt when it comes to basically everything.

Lore? Destroyed, merely 4 lines of text that portray her as a twodimensional character. Identity? The poison mage we once knew and loved is long dead. Gameplay? Binary as hell and gutted into unviability, left to rot since then. Skins? It's been 3 years already since Jade Fang Cass came out, also what the hell did they do to her Desperada skin? Her current classic splash and model aren't even accurate with each other.

She doesn't even have a recall animation, for god's sake. That champion update was the laziest work I've seen so far. They truly couldn't care less about her, but they sure as hell care about Zed, Ahri, Lee & Co. She deserves a fullblown relaunch at this point, period.

As much as we love her, I'm pretty sure that Riot is trying to delete her.

She needed so much help and then fell into bad luck when she got it.

Now they're trying to stuff her in the dumpster because they don't want to allot anymore resources into something so hard to fix. (Keep in mind, indie developers can flip their game on its head in one night, but it's too much for Riot).

I mean, look at this.

  1. Raise her AP ratios for fuck's sake

  2. New passive: Toxic Heart (or some shit): Enemies poisoned for 2 seconds consecutively take 10% more damage and deal 5% less damage. Stacks up to five times.

Done, off the top of my head.

Does Riot care?

Nope.

there is HUGE bias in this Gameplay section. Nearly all threads complaining about a champion will be about an assassin.

Fortunately Riot is not a stupid company and doesn't listen to the many outcries of those who have less knowledge of the game, otherwise assassins would have around 20% winrates today.

It was funny when I saw the Fiora article about a botched Champion update, I was like damn Riot acting like Fiora was their biggest fuck up. Meanwhile there are Karma and Trundle fans that are still pissed. Trundle had his entire unique identity ripped away from him in place of becoming a WoW troll, and karma .. uuhhhh honestly I'm not sure why they are mad something about fans?

At least with the writer chiming it it appears to be just him being relatively new blood not Riot trolling the fuck out of them

I think Cass's voice came out better, before she sounded like a stereotypical harpy trying to get people to say she's beautiful but at the same time, her new voice isn't that big of an upgrade with it trying too hard at conveying "I am a slimy weaselly manipulator".

Just here to say I very much disagree with you about Cassiopeia OP. I like her current state (in game, both play and look wise) and I feel how she was before was a big problem and needed to be changed. I also don't feel it was in any way shoehorned into the Shurima event. It makes perfect sense to combine a rework with a matching lore event and when done right it's a beautiful thing, like it was with the GP and MF reworks (not saying they're perfect balance wise, but overall great reworks).
