Choice and Tryndamere's ultimate.

If he gets caught out during a split push and he knows he is going to die without killing anyone anyway, should he be allowed to just hold his ultimate? Shouldn't coordinating and outmaneuvering him on the map to kill him (perhaps even giving up a strategic resource like a tower or dragon) justify that at the very least he can't use his ultimate again until it comes off cooldown?

But it won't be on cooldown if he doesn't use it, which kind of invalidates the choice of fighting him instead of contesting another objective, because from a purely strategic point of view, in fighting Tryndamere you risk everything and gain nothing. He will just go straight back to doing what he was doing, with no temporary loss in overall power, because he didn't use his ultimate, which means it will take just as many people as last time to counter his split pushing, and he probably still won't ult if he thinks that it will create a window for your team to handle him with 1 champion rather than 3.

Shouldn't Tryndamere's ultimate be automatic then, so that it automatically activates it he would take what would otherwise be lethal damage? Wouldn't that offer more meaningful counterplay to his split push?

So... turn the ult into a passive?

Undying Rage When Tryndamere drops to 15/25/35% HP or lower, he gains the Enraged buff. Should he take fatal damage while Enraged, he is reduced to 1 HP instead and gains the Undying Rage buff for 5 seconds. Tryndamere cannot be reduced below 1 HP while under the effects of Undying Rage.

Is this what you mean?

Split his current ultimate into 2 parts, the part that grants fury on activation and the part that makes him immune to death.

Make the immune to death part activate automatically and make that his passive, available at level 6.

Make his current fury generation and bonus crit chance a passive on his ultimate. Keep the bonus fury on activation on his ultimate (R) key.

Adjust the cooldown of his ultimate, since now it only grants bonus fury on activation.

Right. Well if the death prevention does get moved to his passive, I don't see why it couldn't just be available from level 1 and be adjusted accordingly.

Heck, maybe make it similar to Aatrox where it is based on resource. Undying Rage now has a max duration of 7 seconds at max fury but otherwise is much shorter relative to current Fury. This would also synergize with the Fury gain from R.

I think he means just make tryndamere's whole ult a passive. Not an innate passive, an ultimate passive.

That would work too but if we are going to do that we might as well move some stuff around to free up a button (R).

Too much work for too little. Better to leave it as is. Its a gameplay choice and mastery point that differentiates trynds of different skill. A great trynd can and will save his ult if he can. Most burn it to live anyway.

No. His death timer is punishment enough. You killed tryndamere with no deaths, be thankful and go fight his team.

Unless we make trynd ult just auto activate when he would die, this is just sort of a bad idea. :( Imagine if any other champion arbitrarily lost their ultimate for nothing when they died. It would feel awful for marginal benefit.

The ability to pick and choose when to use your ult is an aspect of mastery in tryndamere. This change would serve purely to remove choice while adding a needless agentless skill on trynd. It punishes newer players for failing to ult, and removes choices for experienced players.

the right answer will always be to ult, because ult goes on cooldown if you die anyway. Why bother making ult an activated ability at all instead of a passive?

What if Karthus passive needed to be activated manually?

that is what i meant. updated op to clarify

I still disagree from a design perspective. Pushing that button and hearing that RHAARRRGGGHHHHHTryndamere distinctive sound feels really good. Making that a passive would take something away from tryndamere players.

If you killed him he is on death timer, at the point where he would be split pushing this is a really powerful thing since mid and late those timers get long. You already killed him, go take advantage of the fact that Tryndamere isn't out there.

Dude. Why are you making thread after thread figuring out nerfs for Tryndamere when you main Tryndamere? Honestly, it's a bit silly.
