The reason Lux is so played at the moment
Is because she is one of the only AP to feel fun to play. Her long range damage give her the option to be strong pre 6 against assassins and she can be usefull at any point in the game because of her utility even if she gets behind in lane, wich means the AP cost nerf didn't affect her as much as the other champions.
In my opinion she is kind of the 
of mages, she is not good because she is OP, she is good because she is fun to play in a meta where AD is omni-present. Like just take a look at who is strong atm 
and probably some others i am forgetting about. Of course, the armor scaling tank and the girl who can lock you down with a longer range than you 
will be strong.
is AP, and he's insanely fun to play. In my own, twisted way anyways.
