Can we stop acting like queue times are more of a deal than game quality

Yes I'm talking about autofill. Is waiting 2-3 minutes in queue more valuable than having an actualy enjoyable game? Like seriously.

Playing a game of 20-30-40-50 minutes in a role you either have no fun in playing or are bad at is considered less harmfull to the game than waiting 10-15-20 minutes before getting in the game?

Autofill is completely opposed to how the new champ select works. ''Hey chose 2 roles and then you will wait to get one of those roles. But if you wait more than 3 minutes we'll just put you in a role you don't like. Sounds amazing right?''

And the truth is, most people wouldn't mind waiting longer to get their role. And the people who like autofill can just queue as fill or put support in their prefered role because let's be honest support is 99% of the reason autofill exists. But Riot won't adress this role as an issue so let's just focus on autofill for now. Basicaly, if autofill wouldn't exist people would have the choice between having long queue times for their role or having less queue time and maybe have a role they don't like. But right now they are forced into the second option.

Autofill is affecting game quality in more than 1 way. First of all, you get incompetent supports that put you at a disadvantage. Guess who is more likely to win on a team with an autofill support vs a team where everyone got their prefered role. Autofill push people to pick non meta champions just because they don't like any of the meta supports and they end up losing the game, but they still prefer that to playing a champion they find boring. And let's be honest you know right when you are autofilled that you will not have fun, you will perform poorly and you are probably going to be a burden to your team. For the first time in 3 seasons of playing, I have seen things such as Zed support in my ranked game.

Now I already hear those ''ya but b-for otophill u had like 1% chanse to git ur rowl coz it was pick order'' Hey genius what if I told you that pick order actualy gives you 4/5 chance of NOT getting the one role you absolutely don't want to play. You have 1/5 chance to get the role you like the most, 1/5 to get your second best role etc. With autofill you either get 1 of your 2 roles OR you get support. PICK ORDER WAS LITTERALY BETTER FOR AVOIDING A ROLE YOU DON'T WANT THAN THE NEW CHAMP SELECT IS.

Except it won't go like that. Here's how the boards work in this situation: If the queue time becomes longer then the boards fill up with people who are willing to spend time typing out posts and hate the queue times. If they fix the queue times by using the current method then the boards fill up with people who hate auto fill and are willing to type out posts about it.

Just because an opinion isn't spoken about doesn't mean it doesn't exist. It's the same with balance posts, " X champion is cancer and the entire community agrees about it on the boards". The people who've spoken about their opinions are noticed while the rest of the people who disagree with said opinion aren't noticed even if they have far more people who agree with their side as they never bothered to outwardly express their opinion.

Yes it is more important to me. I only play a handful of games a week. They are highly likely to be shit because I hate the playerbase anyway. They may as well be fast to join. If I can't load up a game and play fast, I'm just not going to play League at all, and, more problematic for Riot, won't spend money either. I'm not alone in this sentiment.

You don't understand the correlation between game quality and waiting time for the matchmaking algorithm. The more you wait for a team, the wider the player pool has to be taken into consideration, often sacrificing ELO to put someone in the missing position.

You can't be there waiting an hour for that perfect game because that game is going to be absolute shit, often ending in a stomp. There are no perfect games. In a perfect world, instant queue pops are ideal but the role distribution, player number and ELO spread aren't equal across the board. The ideal wait time in queue, in my opinion, is 3-5 minutes. And yes, Autofill needs to exist or we come to a situation where people avoid one role and there's a shortage of players that leads to long(er) queue times that lead to bad match quality.

The quality of my matches seems to have improved significantly even since I started queuing with Support as my primary or secondary.

If I'm not placed into support (and I'm often not), then it is probably filled by a player who mains the role.

While I used to dislike it, I don't particularly mind the system any more.

What are you talking about?

It's a fact queue times would go on for hours without autofill!

It's not only about the Q-times. Autofill also increases the chances of getting your Main Position ALOT more frequent. Even Qing as Support secondary will grant you your main role at least as often as Supp!!! Additionally the system can create alot more balanced game when choosing from a large pool of players and doesnt try desperatly to find a game with a Gold1 and a SIlver5 in it!

Increasing the viable pool of players is huge when looking at matchmaking!

That's what all you Auto-Flamers dont realize! Where are all those 'I only get secondary QQ' from last season, huh? (Posted by the same kind of people now complaining about autofill.... sorry generalizing here...I'm just brored of all those threads. If people would just invest this time into learning their roles...)

Heres a thing for all the people complaining about it.

Learn to play all the fucking roles.

Who the hell cares if you have to play support 1 game out of 5! Suck it up cupcake. Get it out of the way, and then you have 5 games of protection!

this is what people dont get about autofill: its not just longer queue times, its just that there are a lack of support players in ratio to every other role, so its not just going to be a longer queue, it will get indefinitely longer because there will be more and more nonsupport players, and far fewer support players, so queue times get longer and longer. the only thing that stops this is people have their queue get so long, they just give up and play norms. autofill stops this from happening and encourages more players to play ranked. downvote me if you want, but i believe autofill is a great idea, STOP COMPLAINING ABOUT IT.

How many hours are you willing to wait to get into a game?

Sammystorm1/7/2017, 6:47:38 PM3 votes

Queue time is a huge deal to some people like me. I think you overestimate how many people "don't mind waiting". Riot is addressing it because they are getting feedback that queue time sand champ select are too long as is (source:http://na.leagueoflegends.com/en/news/esports/esports-editorial/spring-split-10-bans-pro-play ). That is why they put in autofill. I get you hate autofill but I am pretty convinced the majority of people it doesn't affect.

Also we are acting like having someone of similar rank but on a off position is worse then having someone significantly lower in ranked but on a main role. the old system had way worse games.

Right, let's back to pick order. Then you can cry when you get support in that too.

Autofill isn't the problem. People being little bitches is the problem.

An hour passes. Another hour passes. Still yet another hour passes. The player who has queued for mid, along with all the other thousand players, starts wondering - "Gee, when is someone going to queue for support?"

Jorencice1/6/2017, 9:56:53 PM3 votes

I wouldn't play leauge at all if ny que ever got above 2 minutes.

I have very limited time to play. Fuck waiting 20 minutes.
