Most Balanced Champions

I hear plenty of complaints about a champion being either overpowered or underpowered, but not much about the ones that are balanced. So to give us a breather from all this "Ekko too OP" talk, let's list the champions we feel actually are balanced.

Well now there's a running joke that Vel'Koz is the epitome of balance. #nobuffsornerfssincerelease

I like to think post-rework AD Yi is a pretty balanced champion, at least in mid to mid-high level play. He's got extremely obvious moments of power and weakness. There's a way for his opponents to play against his strengths, and there's a way for Yi players to actively avoid his weaknesses. Yes he needs tuning every once in a while in terms of raw stats but in terms of gameplay, I like him.

Besides Yi (who is not weak but not strong), Kassadin is one of the weakest Assassin/Mages. Mages do burst, Fighters just deal power in both attacks and close range abilities. Okie's Q deals a high burst potential worth attack on his Q, while Kassadin gets a Q that deals some damage and shields nothing, it can stop a charging ability though. His W does gain back (a tiny amount) of mana and deals some good damage. But his E, a charging ability, doesn't deal enough damage and had its slow nerfed. His R is fine. If Kassadin's mobility got its huge nerf, his slow and his R's flash, shouldn't he be able to burst hard now?

and he still carries games even though he is super weak

Part of me wants to say he's balanced, yet another part of me wants to say he's a tad underpowered. Assassins by and large are boned if you CC them or they don't get fed, but Master Yi seems especially vulnerable, and I don't see anyone letting him snowball in higher level play like he does down where I am in bronze. I feel he and Warwick occupy a similar space right now. Warwick is the best learner champ for junglers, since only Vi can come near him when it comes to ease of ganking and jungle farming. Master Yi is the best learner champ for assassins, as he has the most simple and straightforward kit of them all. But both just feel lackluster, as I only ever see either become a factor when they get to repeatedly capitalize on moments of utter stupidity.

Ever watch Cowsep on Yi? Diamond+ Korean Yi. If nothing else, Yi has the potential for great things.

Also, this is what I mean by

and there's a way for Yi players to actively avoid his weaknesses.

Learn to Alpha dodge and know which abilities to negate with Meditate, and you've got yourself a monster of a Yi.

EDIT: Also, Yi would probably be back to perfectly balanced if he appears under tuned now if his Double Strike bug didn't exist.

What double strike bug?

TehNACHO1 votes

[paraphrase] Yi doesn't crit when Double Striking against monsters [/paraphrase]

Fucks up his clear time in the mid game and his ability to solo drag/baron in later stages of the game. A lot of what Yi is strong at is what he is capable of doing if you leave him alone for a long time. Losing any power in this then, like directly impeding his DPS, really bites him in odd ways and makes his strategic value all the more clunky.

Ahri Anivia Braum Heimerdinger Karma Karthus Kayle Kennen Lissandra Lulu Lux Morgana Nami Nunu Orianna Quinn Rammus Renekton Sivir Sona Soraka Swain Syndra Thresh Tristana TwistedFate Twitch Udyr Varus Velkoz Viktor Ziggs (Added in: Garen ? Janna ?Jayce ?Leona ?Rumble ?Sion ?Talon? Volibear ?Zyra ?)

(Edit: if there are champs I didnt add, it's because they're either seen as problematic by half/the majority of the community, or because they're lacking/need updating. Also, I'm not sure about some of them. Fence sitters.)

EkkoFroffles4 votes

Kayle : She's in a decent spot, but she feels like a jack of all trades, master of none to me. She's known for her position flexibility (top, jungle, support, mid), but she doesn't seem like a true fit for any spot. It feels like Riot couldn't decide what they wanted her to be and so they just made what I'll call a choose-your-own-adventure style champ that people can take wherever they want and build however they want. Tristana : In team builder, I decline virtually every Tristana, unless I'm tired of waiting and desperate for an ADC. They nerfed her range and late-game scaling, she can't last hit for crap, and her ult knocks targets away from her. Tristana was the first ADC I ever played, and I won't go near her anymore because of how clunky she feels now.

Aside from those two, I co-sign everyone else.

play Kayle vs Zed - spam laugh

Play a decent Kayle vs a decent Zed- Laugh and cry at the same time.

Vistha Kai1 votes

Sometimes I wish I faced a decent Kayle player... or any Kayle player for that matter.

I haven't seen one for a year or sth.

Ser Garland1 votes

Still play her. I think Leudon's gave her an indirect buff tbh

Vistha Kai2 votes

Who or what is "Leudon"?

Vistha Kai4 votes

Syndra only if Rito will finally fix those freaking bugs with people ignoring stuns and damage.

xLyo3 votes

i love syndra, such a great shampion.

Lugg5 votes

Ahri is not balanced. She is the #1 ranked mid for solo queue. She has WAY too much mobility for the amount of damage and CC she puts out.

The rest of your list is good though.

xLyo1 votes

agree.

Ser Garland1 votes

Ahri is going to be the successor to Leblanc if she ever gets dethroned. I personally hate Ahri way more than Leblanc

Sassmast3r2 votes

How is Heimerdinger balanced?

1000angrybees1 votes

Addressing all of you:

Ahri : She has great outplay potential, but she's extremely frail. Let me remind you she doesnt have naturally good mobility without her orb or ult (330 ms... as 'fast' as lux), either- She NEEDS to have speed boost items or she'll be taken out as the game goes on, even with abilities. She can poke well, but that relies heavily on predicting the opponent and landing both times. both her skill shots can be dodged pretty fairly, with charm being slower than her orb and having a somewhat narrow width. can be very mana hungry, especially as her Q levels up, and if she attempts a combo. (even one charm and orb can really dent her mana regardless if she does or doesnt land it, never mind adding foxfire or ult. This changes mid-late game, but obviously mana pools grow and it becomes easier to use abilities more.) Good for taking out squishy targets or taking advantage of out of place enemies. Relatively mediocre in teamfights, not bad but not the best. 0-100 potential isnt as good as other assassins, actually. Seeing as she's kite mage first and assassin second, she's more about slowly poking down to certain amounts and then seizing the opportunity for a kill. I'm not gonna be like "i'm the best ahri player I know what I'm talking about" but after pretty much playing at least every other game with her I'm pretty confident in my overall analysis of her strengths and weaknesses. She's strong, but she's definitely not the strongest, or overpowered. Also, I hardly ever see other Ahri players, but hey, idk I dont play ranked either. Dont care for it.

Syndra : She went from being a super strong champ to being... not as strong? Unintentionally I suppose

Heimerdinger : heimy is a special case. He's good early game, if only for his lane presence. After players get stronger, his turrets sort of lose their purpose and they're easily killed. He has super useful and strong ults, but seems more focused on defense and helping other team members fight than being by himself later in the game. (not to say he can't kill anyone or anything, just my opinion on him personally)

Kayle : I honestly dont know how to play kayle properly and that's why I dont use her. She's very strange, being a support, and a fighter, and a mage but all at the same time. No denying she's extremely useful after 6 though.

as for Tristana : new trist, although seems a little odd, definitely feels more fair than old trist. That's why I put her up.

Heimerdinger does so well on his own that he can actually benefit and 2 for 1 if he's ganked.

What about Cho Gath?

Dark Nephthys4 votes

Though I feel it's a bit to biased for me to say it (since I main her...) but I'd almost say Anivia is one.

Yes she does insane damage with her E and has high ratio's but honestly...if you actually look at her and count all the "negative" things about her and her kit and stats...She definitely pays for her damage...unlike most champions in the game.

Lux Anivia Bard Corki Chogath Ezreal Jayce Karthus Kennen Rumble Ryze Shen Soraka Talon Zac

those 15 are my undisputed balanced list. Honestly i can only see debate for Chogath but he has trouble solo carrying right now so hes there.

the rest i consider truly to be strong or weak atm excluding Ekko because its far too soon to judge his strength

lol bard isnt weak anymore. well maybe, if you consider balance to be weakness(SHUT UP ZED XD). ya his buffs made him a bit easier to play, but even before that i saw bards doing well every 3rd game or so.

His heal is non-existant. All 3 late game will fill 1/4th of a squishy's hp at most. And that's when they're all charged up.

EkkoFroffles1 votes

Bard's problem is he's hard to play effectively. He has more room for error than any other support. You have to know when to roam, when and how to use your ult, etc. His heals could stand to be buffed, yes. And I occasionally found myself bewildered by the placement of his chimes when I tried him out this week, as it seems to either spawn them right beside you, in territory that it would be suicide to enter, or on the complete opposite side of the map. I get that they need to be risk/reward, since chimes can take Bard from a laughing stock to a real threat, but when it's sending me right between the turret range of those first two mid lane turrets, where it's almost impossible to thread that needle without getting targeted by at least one turret, I start to wonder if the chimes want me dead.

Secret Seclusion1 votes

Bard is definitely not weak, he is where he is supposed to be.

He could use some small adjustments to his "w" and that's it.

Muted Summoner1 votes

I can go down a list for a good amount of champions that need some tuning. Some like Lux are fine but they have hard mana issues way to early or champions like Aatrox are far to squishy for the lack of damage they provide when compared to champions like Tryndamere or MasterYi Volibear

Why play Aatrox who never feels tanky or do enough damage because he can't live long enough when you can play Zac Who, if builds tanky, deals so much damage and recovers hp at the same time. Volibear Is a prime example balance imo. He doesn't have mana issues but he could, He deals damage at all stages because of his R and his W when he feels like he may not do enough while also being tanky. True his q is easily telegraphed but its on a low cd and and gives a speed boost unlike some champion who lose it when they take damage. But with Sivir/Morgana and/or Righteous glory or cc from other champions its not that hard to pull it off with its Speed.

some champions are balanced but that still doesn't mean they need some tuning. Sometimes champions will require assistance from items or other champions, But when they are dependent on them thats when they need help. The fact Skarner and Fiddlesticks are so reliant on summoner 4 and other champions is absurd. MissFortune A solid adc who is a good duelist but her R is just worthless and feels very unrewarding and just weak and is quite often beaten by adcs whose R are useful in a dueling situation to where their ults make or break a fight. Quinn I want to play this champion but riot pls...a Adc who runs in close range to attack...she doesn't have the tanking potential like Gnar to pull it off even if you build her bruiser. All she has going for her in a dueling situations is a blind assuming if the other adc doesn't cc her or out run her during blinds duration.

Sivir Is balanced. She deals damage but not omg pub stomp get rekt damage likeJinx late game but brings so much utility(R and kit wave clear) and a bit of small self peel.

Lugg3 votes

I'm glad someone else realizes that MF's ult is worthless. I honestly completely ignore it in game unless I'm standing right next to her and getting hit by all the bullets.

Quinn needs a boost to her armor and MR when she ults since she becomes a melee fighter at that time.

what in the. where did my post go to? never mind league was being buggy.

but yea MF ultimate is very weak and just utterly useless.

Maybe if quin could dodge..in bird form...guess that won't ever happen lol.

SpecterVonBaren1 votes

It's actually rather powerful early game, the issue with it is that its damage falls off really fast so mid and late game there's very few scenarios where standing still and pressing R is better than just auto attacking people.

That's my list of balanced champions. Rest are either UP or OP.

Lugg2 votes

Diana, Irilia, Rek'Sai, and Yasou are OP right now.

Vistha Kai1 votes

How can Yasuo be OP after 10 nerfs exactly?

Lugg1 votes

Honestly, most of those nerfs were complete jokes. The fact alone that his ult ignores 50% of armor is insane. 25% would be on the verge of OP. Plus he arguably has the best defensive ability in the game (Wind Wall). There is a good reason why he still gets plenty of competitive play at the pro level.

Vistha Kai1 votes

Removing 20% Flow generation per Sweeping Blade you call a joke not a nerf?

Plus his arguably best defensive ability in the game for some reason doesn't prevent him from having THE highest average number of deaths of ALL champions.

I'm not sure on which planet you live, but I'd like to know where I can pick Yasuo and not get completely demolished by 95% of champions in the current meta.

Lugg1 votes

I didn't say all of the nerfs were jokes, just most of them.

He has a high death rate because too many idiots play him that don't know how.

Once again, he gets played pretty often on the pro circuit. They would never pick him if he wasn't strong. The area where he is most OP is in the right team comps. Put him with an Alistar or Malphite and he will get 30+ kills easy.

Vistha Kai1 votes

So the "high skill cap" and "high elo"/"but mah LCS" arguments?

I'd say "you are Bronze what can you possibly know about high ELO", but that wouldn't be professional.

Why champion is picked in LCS:

  1. It's borderline OP that wins aganist 99% other champions.
  2. It is essential for the teamcomp a team wants to make.

ad1. That's the opposite of Yasuo. He's countered by so many champions, not picking him as last pick in red team is like saying "please make me go afk". ad2. Again, not the case for Yasuo, because - as I said Zilean of times - there are more reliable champion combos that work just as good or better than Yasuo while being stronger in lane.

Why champion is picked in solo queue:

  1. It's borderline OP.
  2. Because I can.

ad1. It's true for every ELO. ad2. It's true for every ELO.

Wanna know high skillcap champion? Check Syndra. Her winrate varies between 40-44% for people with 50 games and less, then skyrockets and reaches over 57% for people with over 125 games.

Everything hard about Yasuo is having a good reaction time and decision making - the latter applies to every champion so it's a non-factor.

I'm saying that as a guy who's Yasuo was a secondary "main" for 2 seasons.

Lugg1 votes

I will agree in a second that Yasou is one of the hardest champs to play in the game. You have to have good mechanics and make smart decisions. However, that doesn't change the fact that he is very, very strong. I play with Bronze, Silver, Gold, Plat, and even a few Diamond players and Yasou can hard carry at any of those levels. On the scale of 1-10 where 4-6 is balanced, Yas is probably a 7-8. Yes he has some counters, but as the game goes on, he just gets stronger. That is why I put him in the OP category. He isn't as OP as a LB, but he is one of the stronger champs.

Vistha Kai1 votes

You took one sentence out of my post and I see you didn't even get it or didn't want to. I basically said Yasuo is easy.

Lugg1 votes

Yasou isn't easy. He isn't the hardest champion in the game, but he takes lots of practice to get good with. The way your post read was that Syndra was a higher skillcap. At least that's how I took it.

Vistha Kai1 votes

Yasou might not be an easy champ. Yasuo on the other hand...

31 words out of 212 were about Syndra. It was an example._ *gasp*_

How can Yasuo be OP after 10 nerfs exactly?

he isn't. People just saw him played in the LCS, and people think any champ played in the LCS must be OP if played more than 1 game.

Is just normal logic around these parts.

Vistha Kai1 votes

Ah, right. I haven't watched LCS since the Championships.

That'd explain why Lugg thinks Yasuo's OP.

I'd like to see this post rise to the top, extremely relevant. Withdrawing all judgement in regard to gameplay, counterplay, and viability, I will be picking 3 champions I own that I have NEVER had a problem playing as or against that wasn't 100% attributable to me, and me alone.

Darius ,Draven, and Thresh

Edit: I am putting thresh on discounting his atrocious release-week E ratios and him previously hitting like a truck in general.
