So urgot in the laning phase is all well in good but.....

What does he do in the mid to late game? I'm specifically talking about Urgot top here. The best I can see is he's good for clean up and picking someone with his slow/ult. I suppose in teamfights he functions kind of like a Bruiser in that he wants to get DPS down on the ADC and Mid-laner to reduce their damage/kill the squishies, but its actually pretty hard for him to get past a beefy frontline, and ulting in can lead to a pretty bad time.

What should I be focusing on in mid-game? Should I split-push, stick with my team, just dps the closest person like an ADC or try to flank and get around to the back line?

You have to build him tanky, he has a perfect way to get their carry dead.

He's a bit tricky in that you have to go in and out of being a ranged sniper and a frontline damage soak. You go in and out and in between, kinda like Gragas. Towards the Midgame teamfights, look to stay back and deal the damage as you will be still building damage at that point in the game (act more like an ADC). Late game you should be tanky enough to be more of a frontline, but you are by no means a tank. You're somewhere between a Fighter and a Carry but you can peel for your carries quite well with your W and Q's. A great thing in this dive heavy meta is that if someone like an Irelia charges at your carry, your ult can reposition you between your carries and your enemies and you get a sweet resistance boost.

Urgot is a great duelist but it's tricky for him to split push as he is fairly squishy at this point and easy to overwhelm with numbers. Urgot can make great picks in the Jungle during the midgame by bush ganking with an ally so look to do that. Just make sure you have good vision. I would just stick with your team for the most part unless another lane is being pushed against you. You want to try and get people out of position with your E and spam your Qs to chunk them hard while your W slows them. Late game you have a lot of effective health if you've built at least 30% CDR as your W lasts for up to 7 seconds and the CD on it is about 7 seconds as well, meaning you always have about 300-400 extra health with the new Mana scaling on it. This allows you to take a little poke during a siege.

Build wise I have a lot of success getting a lot of early armor pen (brutalizer and LW) for your Q's to do heavy damage (I run about 10 armor pen on runes as well). Your Tear item can be completed fairly quickly and the last items should be focused on making you as tanky as possible. Frozen Heart is a good buy as it gives you a lot of CDR. Banshees is really good on him as he is very prone to CC, the same reason Merc's are also a good choice of boots. If you are facing a heavy AP comp or you want to go tankier, switch out your LW for a Hexdrinker into Maw or some HP items or more resistances are good (Randuins and Warmogs are great if you want to be tankier against multiple damage sourcess, other options are Thornmail if they have a few AS based champs or GA because GA).

Well, Considering that I main him, I will give you a tip about top urgot. Mid game, you generally want to throw your Grenade on one of the squishy people and get em down quickly, throw your AA's on all of the people to proc your passive in teamfights, and use your ulti on the enemy that is fed the most. Late-game, you wanna stick with your team and catch people out, while doing what you do in mid-game.

most people builed him far to agressive, you need to go tanky after muramana+brut, and you enter the backline via your ult, dpsing down either there carry or midlaner. if you have a hypercarry and the enemies have an assasin like zed, lust stay in ~600range around your carry and help peeling with the W slow, and if the assasin jumps him you ult that assain right away.

midgame, you should roam with your team and create picks with your ult+slow, or siege a tower if you have more a siegecomp, the E+Q poke is pretty massive and the slow helps keeping them at bay.

You see, in a team fight he has that soft engage I like, where he picks someone to ult, right in the middle, or in the back of the enemy. Then, as the enemy blows their regular spells on you, and you survive because of that massive defensive boost, your team comes in and everyone does their combo. Then you continue to deal damage because that is your job, and clean up the mess. Kinda like Karthus, but less damagy and more IMAGIANTCRAB. Kinda like how Lulu is like Orianna, but less damagey and more HE'SAGIANTTHING!

ThisIdeaIsDildos is correct.

Just to add something else is that if you have any difficulties in lane and fall behind, Urgot is not that great at playing catch up. It can be sometimes more beneficial to ditch damage and take on a role of utility tank.

item 3060 all are great stats that Urgot likes, cdr, hp and the utility is evident.

item 3050 lot's of cdr and can be used to bolster an ad heavy team comp

item 3800 this is a great item on Urgot even if you are going full damage, just got buffed, and if you are a ghost and flash Urgot player it will compliment this

There are other great items but these are someones that can be missed. Finally something that may not be evident, is taking your

item 3070 => item 3003

If you are forced to be in a tank position (due to falling behind in lane) the extra mana, shield, and ap will all help you defensively.

This is just an alternative path Urgot can go if he falls behind. Also his kit complements the utility tank due to his armor shreds, damage reduction, slows, and ult.

Sorry, one more thing. I say utility tank instead of tank because Urgot as a tank is not that good. A good tank should be able have cc that can disrupt a team reliably. But if you buy items with auras and actives, you can make up for your short comings for your team.

Urgot is a fighter. He gets fairly tanky, and deals moderate damage. Your description is actually exactly what he does. He peppers people with Qs, slows them from his shield, and reduces their armor with his E. This all helps the team! Also, his ult is MUCH more useful when he can actually go into a team and not immediately die.
