Should Cho'gath be played like a mage or like a tank?

I usually play Cho'gath full AP because it seems like when you build full tank on Cho, he does 0 damage and that full damage is the only way to build him.

I typically build RoA and then full tank on him. If we don't have much AP, I'll pick up an abysal as one of my MR items.

When I play Cho (which is really rare) I just build him a mix of AP and tank. So I grab two AP bruiser items (RoD and Crystal scepter) then I get a few tank items with varying resistances depending on enemy team comp.

chogath should be played like chogath. He's an AP fighter champ. You build him like an AP juggernaut you could say

Build roa and rylai's as your ap items, and then full tank. Rylai's should only be second item if you are really far ahead. Ult helps make him tanky that's why full ap works on him

Yeah this. I only build Rylai's if we have tanks at Support/Jungle. I usually go ROA>Distortion Boots>Frozen Heart>SpiritVisage

Then I stack armor or MR depending on who we are playing. You wont do a ton of damage, but your ult is still deadly and you will get kills.

I guess it depends on what your team needs. Runic Echoes is probably better for early ganks.

If you're the only champion on your team that's not squishy, go tanky, but otherwise, you want to build as an AP bruiser building items that give you both ap and defensive stats.
