Why do Thresh's souls grant both Armor and AP?

Is this an oversight? It's a huge bonus for him to have that extra damage. Maybe he should just have the armor?

His AP ratios are all low, and he has no per-level Armor bonus.

Riot paid attention, it's you that needs to take a second look.

He doesn't have scaling armor, so if you were to remove anything I'd prefer getting rid of the AP portion.

Unless they gave him scaling armor, in which case ignore this post and go pet a bunny.

AD thresh is better.

Because the idea is that he doesnt scale with gold, and instead scales with himself.

It allows thresh to be behind but still stay relevant. A support will generally make 6000~8000g a game. thats usually about half of what everyone else makes. this means supports are squishy as balls and do negligable damage later in the game. Threshs passive allows him to be relveant in the mid game by providing supplementary damage, and relevant in the late game by being rather tanky.

Thats what makes AD thresh sort of good. He gains armor so he might be able to out trade the enemy team. Its outrageous Taric

All of Thresh's AP ratio are 50% & lower, so collecting souls doesn't make him seem like a threat anyway.

Even if Thresh gets 200 stacks (takes forever) it's barely notable unless he's got tons of hp to support the armor. The AP is basically useless.
