"It's just normals"

And you're just a piece of shit who afk'd when your stupid-ass kill lane fed.

But enough about that, this is about that phrase.

This phrase is an excuse.

It's not a reason.

It's not a defense.

It doesn't make whatever the hell you've been doing any less terrible, or anybody else any less mad at you for doing it.

It's a pathetic attempt to CYA that you tell yourself when you want to avoid admitting that you fucked up, and instead make it all about everybody else and how it's their problem when your shenanigans end up affecting them negatively.

If you've ever used this phrase, it's about time to wake up and start actually taking responsibility for your actions.

If you go off to play ranked a vast majority of the time this phrase seems quite valid. Once you play that much ranked normals are kind of like "I want to play really risky and do some crazy fun stuff", then there are people which only play normals 80-90% of the time, and they tend to take it far more serious because they want to improve and try their best, when really normals is purely about having fun, trying new things (duo mid, ap blitz support/swain apc), and making crazy plays (ones which either end bad, or really good)

if you want your games to be more serious, and you want to develop as a player, just do ranked. so you know ranked isn't serious 100% of the time, but most of the time people play to win.

Yes, this is my take on the phrase "it's just normals." I rarely play normals, but when I do, I play them as a breather from ranked or just to try out a champion I just bought. I have used that phrase quite often, because it's just like Justify says, I don't go into normals with the intent to win, rather I go in just trying to relax and not care.

I only play team builder because I don't care for my rank, but I still want to play will high MMR team builder players, so winning helps that. Some people probably view normals the same as ARAM, though that doesn't mean they should be inconsiderate and ruin the enjoyment for other players. No matter what gamemode you play, the objective is always the same, win, that's just how the game is supposed to be played. So while I don't expect everyone to be serious in normals, they should still play with the intent to try and win. My MMR in normal is very high so I I mostly have players who try to win, but there's still some who don't care.
