I've heard people talking about how Sona's abilities don't feel very rewarding in lane. While I personally disagree with you, I'd like to propose the following change, if this is something we come to a consensus on:

Sona's aura abilities become stronger when there are fewer allies nearby.

Important: This has to do with the number of nearby allies, not the number of allies tagged.

This gives sona back some laning power (maybe even opening her up to solo laning!), without making her overbearing in teamfights.

Thoughts?

It's kind of disingenuous. Why would they get stronger the fewer allies who listened? How would it be implemented? Is it based on the number of champions nearby, or is it like a fall off for each ally affected?

Plus, the main reason she doesn't feel rewarding in lane is because of the Q range nerf and the slightly lower damage it has from before. 10/20/30/40/50 off the base IIRC - and it doesn't seem big but it adds up.

It would be based on proximity - because falloff is a weird mechanic, where players don't understand why their shield wasn't as big as they expected.

Well, this would probably be a buff to her Q damage (in the form of the on-hit proc), as well as the shield, etc.

I feel like that would just push people to not try and tag as many allies as possible with the auras, as much as I actually like the idea. Their range is so short that if the buff is smaller the more people you tag, it wouldn't even be worth trying to move around tagging and would be far more advantageous to just sit near your ADC for peeling.

Perhaps if all the auras were like her E, that'd be a little better? The E is slightly more powerful on herself than on allies. Having the shield be slightly more powerful on herself too would be a huge boon in lane, for instance. The Q being a little more powerful on herself also shifts some of her power back to herself, which helps both for solo laning and for supporting in solo queue, where usually you don't have much synergy with your lane partner.

I see I wasn't clear in my OP, so I updated it to be that way.

There'd need to be a very clear visual indicator of what counts as nearby, then, or it'd be a very confusing mechanic. Different from Irelia's passive, at least, since that one doesn't directly affect your skills' capabilities. Maybe a little icon (not visible to enemies) showing the number of nearby players?

(Also, this may end up giving away baits/ganks to keen eyed opponents, which could be baaaad bad. Like... suddenly smaller shields giving away that there are allies hiding nearby and such.)

That's the kind of difference I'm talking about, here. Keep the live values on her 5-man-nearby auras, and (these numbers, for her damage), add on + 3 / 6 / 10 / 13 / 16 per ally who's not nearby.

I doubt that would be enough to give away a bait, but it would make sona feel slightly better in lane, I think.

I haven't ironed out exactly what I'd want from this, but I was thinking that, while there should be a mouseover to display the circle, it should essentially conform to, "If your screen is centered on Sona, if they're onscreen, they're nearby." If you wanted to put a number value on it, perhaps the max range that sona can tag someone within (speedboost included) if she uses her ability now. So an, "if you can tag them, they're within range." Sure, this would create a couple weird scenarios with allies who are walking away but are in range when she triggers an ability, giving it a weaker bonus, but I tend to think those would be pretty few and far in between.

well i thick she fun to play with all her new toys but her design is a bit lazy in all well because her taunt, laugh, joke, dance, and recall are the same its like riot put on a car tarp on the car to me the only thing is isn't the same is the hair the auras is really cool but i just don't like. But as a good sona player it really is like a good champion to play. And like again its the design that bug me and the only good skin for sona is muse sona and that skin has very high detail. so riot can you fix this problem?
