Yasuo's Windwall is probably one of the better expressions of skill in the game

TANK MAIN TALKING

Because it tests the skills and decision making of his opponents more than it does himself. When it's out, you have to find a way to deal with it that isn't just sheer brute force. Sometimes as simple as moving to the left.

Now in lower elos (like the one I reside in) we don't think to even make these decisions because everything happens so fast and are judgements get clouded. Our spell was just lost, and we feel cheated.

We weren't cheated, we made didn't make the best decision.

And remember kiddos, Yasuo's wall is useless against your frontline and against non-projectile spells. So go out alone if you're a squishy champion past laning phase.

If you're a squishy ADC or mage and you see him coming while you're splitpushing, well you should probably run (especially if he's fed). And avoid running near your minions, they give him a boost.

Now, feel free to downvote me and explain how I'm a freelo Yasuo player and that Yasuo needs to be gutted. I have a bucket of popcorn nearby that could use the extra salt. [slayer-pantheon-popcorn]

You make some excellent points. But the fact remains that losing an ultimate ability (especially something like Nami wave) into it is kind of soul-crushingly disappointing. Ultimate abilities are supposed to be character defining cool moments of play, having that negated and taken away feels awful.

Maybe it is balanced, and is not a problem, and I'm not going to argue for or against that. But I still think it's kind of anti-fun for Yasuo's opponents in certain circumstances.

Ralanr2 votes

That I completely understand. Having an ultimate canceled by a regular ability, or even no ability at all is extremely frustrating. I deal with it whenever people just walk past me as I ult with Sion.

But ultimates truly lose their defining moment when they are safe, at least they do to me. How can I believe I have made a skillful play if my ultimate or any ability has no way of going wrong?

Verxint1 votes

For most ultimates I don't mind them being blocked by windwall because in many cases they can either bleed around it, like an MF ult if the wall isn't correctly placed, or the caster can do something about it, like Lucian moving. I can totally make an exception for Nami's ult, however, because it looks completely stupid to see a massive tidal wave just barely clip the windwall and disappear. Unfortunately I don't think there's an easy solution from a code perspective.

Ralanr4 votes

Imo Nami's ult should work like an actual flood. Dragging stuff down and following paths than are diverted by walls and other obstacles.

I want her ult to flood the goddamn jungle and was everything out.

HalcyonDweller1 votes

That would be so freaking cool!

But probably hard to code.

I hope Riot tries it anyway.

Ralanr1 votes

I hope so as well. Maokai kinda does this.

Though it might also ruin Nami's kit...is Nami a generalist?

Big Lincoln1 votes

all supports are generalist

Ralanr1 votes

Except Janna, who is basically the peel queen.

Also Soraka but Soraka is kinda dumb.

I've had too many games where she made it impossible to punish hypercarries early.

TyrekGoldenspear1 votes

:(((((

I feel ya though. I feel the same way about Ekko. Except in his case he supports himself with that ult.

HalcyonDweller1 votes

Hard to say, they can't just make Nami ult work like Maokai's new ultimate because then the abilities occupy similar design space.

Nami might be a generalist. She certainly has a wide array of options for playstyle. She can peel, poke, sustain, pick and engage.

Pretty much this, yasuo windwall is one of the best spell (i don't know about other spells) to test the skill of an enemy by seeing how a backline plays against windwall you're able to measure his skill, either they waste everything in it, or they wait (which is what we do in high elo) or they take the risk to pass through it

and then it takes in account the skill of the entire enemy team if the enemy frontline is stupid enough to stay in front of windwall while their backline is behind it, they will lose the teamfight however a clever frontline will back and force the enemy team out of windwall (unless they have 1000 range)

and then it takes in account the skill of yasuo and his team they have the ability to play around both side of windwall and move around to try to block spells

windwall is the most dynamic spell in the game

"but then he can use it to block one of your spell, and you're forced to keep your hook as blitzcrank"

wrong, it has 26 sec cd, most spells in league have less cd than yasuo windwall if you want to engage him with an ult then yes you can't but you can like throw a hook of blitz then wait 15 sec, then hook him

just my 2cents, i'm also not a yasuo main

One solution I have is to play Diana because her Q goes around his wind wall

Id be fine with that if he couldnt instantly throw it out. Imo it should either have some delay to be a strategic wall or it should be instant but last only like 0.5 second to block something and maybe have lower cooldown.

Windwall isnt really his problem anyway tho, he doesnt even use it in 90% of all top lane matchups and he is still god tier there, so..

Ralanr1 votes

Imo his windwall should lose the increased size per level (completely pointless) and instead gain lower duration and rank one with increased duration as it ranks up.

As for top lane, I blame item 3046. But against the right lane bullies he should be stomped.

i agree with this tbh, windwall can use some changes

but not aberrations like "it should have 500 hp" it completly ruins the ENTIRE point of the spell, people will just braindeadly attack the wall to destroy it instead of passing the skilltest

Ashe: Damn move, you're not using any skill! Nautilus: Shouldn't you just...fire around it or something? Ashe: STFU you stupid tank, no one asked for the opinion of a noob champion.

_Some say Ashe is still firing arrows into the Windwall, all while Nautilus and the rest of the gang walked around it and proceeded to curb stomp Yasuo's teeth in. _

a basic ability that can block a handful of ults, ya sounds skillful to me

Ralanr2 votes

The skill lies not in the samurai who threw the wall, but in the opponent who adapted to it.

Maybe don't blow all your skill knowing his windwall is up or don't pick things that are bad against him. It's not Yasuo's fault you have bad knowledge of the game

Far too often I see people unload an entire combo in a predictable way on a Yasuo that they know has the wall up, then sit there continuing to attack it, then they die and complain the wall is OP.

Ralanr1 votes

Well in terms of the actual argument, morgana was trying to hit him while windwall was off cooldown. If she wanted to waste windwall, she succeeded.

In terms of the video, windwall is such a hilarious ability sometimes (yeah I'd argue dumb coding there).

nm10101 votes

Yeah I have no problem with Yasuo himself, but the dang wall needs some changes so he can't block things while throwing it the completely wrong way. Same as when Yasuo is standing near it and it magnetizes projectiles into it even though Yasuo is in front of the wall.

SnakDatSmilesBak1 votes

I agree, wall skills are often the most expressive in terms of skill. Yasuo's is unique in that it allows both enemies and allies to pass through while halting only projectiles. This allows enemies some counterplay by moving through or around the wall, while retaining an advantage for the Yasuo player because he has mobility to move through or around the wall and no projectiles.

And then you take into account its hitbox and all of that is thrown out of the window, because all he needs to do is freaking stand on it.

Also, moving around it is an easy thing to say, but you are practically saying that in order to counter it in a teamfight, the ADC needs to be INSIDE the enemy team? Ye, sounds like quite a counter there.

And remember kiddos, Yasuo's wall is useless against your frontline and against non-projectile spells. So go out alone if you're a squishy champion past laning phase.

So it's useless against the champions that no longer pose any threat to him. What a relief.

Well Naut lands one auto, roots him, and has a competent not an idiot team to come and cap on it.

There are both positive and negative scenerios in which this can take place. Do you wish to keep arguing on it for eternity, grasshoppa?

I don't remember Nautilus making Yasuo unable to set up his Wind Wall. How do you capitalize on him when he shuts down the real damage sources?

Or is the root going to last long enough for your hypothetical scenario of an ADC going around the wall, somehow staying safe although much closer to the enemy team and finally getting to right click Yasuo properly?

You are giving an example where the situation is heavily biased in Yasuo's favor and you want to paint it as a form of counterplay.

That's the problem. You don't capitalize on Yasuo, he only fucks up and allows to be capitalized upon. All the cards are in his hand and it's only when he plays them wrong that a punishment occurs, not when you play yours right.

The windwall is already out, Naut walks through and hits him.

Or is the root going to last long enough for your hypothetical scenario of an ADC going around the wall, somehow staying face although much closer to the enemy team and finally getting to right click Yasuo properly?

Technically, yes. That is the intention. You have a frontline to keep their frontline busy and your backline to protect people like Ashse.

You are giving an example where the situation is heavily biased in Yasuo's favor and you want to paint it as a form of counterplay.

I'm giving an example of how some people forget that there is counterplay, even if there is small amounts. I don't like fighting Yasuo, half the time I forget his counterplay. But it does exist.

Why is the wind wall out?

Once again a scenario that relies on the Yasuo miscalculating first and using his own mechanics wrong, never having his mechanics actually countered.

Ralanr1 votes

I see your point. Frankly, I do believe that Yasuo's windwall is too strong. I have detailed how I would change it to Metal.

KONO RUBICK DA1 votes

hue.... the board since a long time said that only yasuo mains like to play against yasuo

if ralanr posts a thread about saying that he thinks in his opinion that windwall is a great spell for the game people are going to call him a yasuo main

IcyPepper1 votes

Still, purposely baiting people like that? Comes off as petty. Isn't there a possibility that someone might disagree with him and not be salty about it?

Ralanr1 votes

If people disagree, then they disagree. If they disagree for petty reasons, I will be petty back because I'm kinda tired of trying to reason with petty thoughts.

It's a little of both honestly. I'm just open about the inevitable downvotes.
