The issue isn't Runes Reforged. League's/Riot's issue is actually...

The fact they haven't regarded the prior issues before releasing Runes Reforged:

  • Towers have been way too weak.
  • Some champion designs need work arounds and fixes.
  • Mage/AP user itemization compared to AD champions
  • The snowball/avalanching in the game is too much
  • Damage creep
  • Tank Balancing

If Riot still wants to keep all their changes so far, add a surrender at 8 and 10 minutes. [This line is a joke if you didn't know. Don't add a surrender at 10. Please fix] The fact these issues were not addressed despite Rioter posts stating "We're looking in on it" is daunting. It's upsetting. It's disappointing.

There's no excuse for anyone not to address these issues by now.

If these issues were addressed before the update, it would be super easy to solve Runes Reforged. However, Riot decided to release repeated updates and changes without addressing these core issues until they keep stacking. So much rage, so much snowballing, and there's no such thing as comebacks anymore. Once someone is fed, it's game.

"We want this to be a team game."

It's a fun team game when it's not a snowball. When someone can 1v5, it's just a disappointment. Fix all these issues. If you want fast gamemodes, add more custom variations or give us more URF. Not this shit.

No, the runes reforged are an issue, it isn't THE issue.

League has a lot of issues, and they've just let them build up. Yet at what point does it go from "an issue" to being "a design choice"?

  • Mage/AP user itemization compared to AD champions
  • The snowball/avalanching in the game is too much
  • Damage creep
  • Towers have been way too weak.
  • Tank Balancing

Could all be considered intentional design decisions, that most people just fucking hate, but riot don't want to budge on.

I think you could generalize the actual issue with league, which is just being expressed as all of these things, as incompatible design shift. The base design of the game, including the runes, items, and stats, is not compatible with the way in which they want to continue pushing the design of the game. Riot needed to release a new game/mode, with a ground up redesign, to support the way in which they wish to take the game.

That said, the design which they wish to continue towards might not be able to stand on it's own merit. It's hard to tell, because the current success of league is built off of those old designs which have started being replaced.
