Preseason 6 isn't as bad as you're making it out to be.

Let me be clear: what I'm saying is that the changes themselves are pretty good. The balancing needs some work, but you can't expect them to roll out some heavy changes and get everything right the first time.

The preseason isn't for "checking where the game is, and making some small changes to ensure it stays balanced". That's what patches are for. The Preseason is for making huge changes that will change the game to make sure players continue to enjoy it, and don't get bored with it.

Because let's face it: the same thing over, and over, and over again just gets boring and repetitive, and the same thing over, and over, and over again just gets boring and repetitive. See what I mean?

So let's not shoot the horse before we find out whether it's leg is really broken or notHecarim . Over the next few patches, the balance will be rolled out, and Riot will have fixed some of the Preseason 6 monstrosities they have thus far created.

Honestly, the changes themselves are pretty cool: The masteries - whether you think they reduce strategic diversity or not - put an interesting spin on laning vs late game power, and the new AD items actually work pretty well to propel bruisers (who aren't juggerbitches) back in the meta. They even broke a statistical rule in giving Kog'Maw the ability to up his Max Attack Speed... at least we know the designers working for League have some ballsAlistar

I believe in Riot.

No it's pretty bad, and I don't think Riot should be jerking everyone around into playing a diff game. The rate League is going it will NEVER be a "sport" but remain a geek sideshow. Do you see REAL sports like basketball/football changing the rules every month? And do you ever see in a real sport where commentators say stupid things and correct themselves every 5 minutes? NO AND NO.

Of course League won't have the set-in-stone rules that Basketball or football have- it's a video game; notorious for needing new features and bigger and better things to keep the masses sated for content. It keeps it interesting, and is why I think traditional sports are going to go downhill over the next century; more and more children are growing up with computers or consoles, getting used to playing or watching a different game every year- whether similar to an older one or not- and will want the same thing for years to come. Football and the like hail from a time where change was taking place, yes. And their rulings and practices changed to match. Compared to then, however, our pace of technology would break their necks- and since we're getting used to that pace, we'll want everything to move at that pace; not one or two minor rules changes each year, but instead possibly changing minor rules monthly, major rules yearly, and definitely completely new games on a relatively regular basis.

It's inevitable. Might not happen quickly, but it'll happen. Can you expect a generation who grew up when technology that hit the shelves already obsolete, who grew up getting significant upgrades to everything on a regular basis- to settle for a game whose rules haven't changed in a meaningful way in fifteen years? "Fifteen years ago?" they think, "This hadn't been invented!" and then they move to the better, prettier, more fun version that's updated last week.

Its bad, but not as bad as people are calling it. I also am really surprised people didn't expect it to be this experimental and unbalanced with all the changes that Preseason brings.

Exactly. Unbalanced, yes. Unfun? not entirely. Terrible in every way shape and form? Not even close.

What about the lack of diversity in the jungle now? There are less viable champs that can jungle, which I think is because of no trailblazer and the fact that hunet's machete got nerf big time.

Du Ma Mi1 votes

The jungle was made slightly weaker, and with the new jungle item every champ gets health back when they attack jungle monsters with anything, so if you actually know what you're doing, you'll be fine.

Yes the jungle was made slightly weaker but the main jungle item was nerfed big time and yes I do what im suppose to do but the new machete is a lot weaker than the older machete of last season. Example it is much harder to jungle with more champs now than in season 5. A jungle champ is viable when they can take 3 camps without a leash generally krugs, red and raptors or gromp, blue, wolves and have a decent amount of health and mana left. It reminds of early in season 5 and I imagine that riot will see the stats and change the jungle to allow more diversity in it.

Maybe the loss of bladed armor?

I had a friend take Lissandra on the jungle. Horrible first clears, but amazing ganks.

The loss of those 2 things was game changer

PBE is for big monumental changes, and if acceptable, gets added to league.

pre season is for many large and different additions at once and potentially head in a new direction with a new mechanic, map update/change. NOT upset champion balance for no particular reason, especially when it clearly benefits ADC's much moreso than any other type of champion.

Sukishoo7 votes

PBE is just for bug fixes anymore actually. Like the Pre-season was on there for 2 weeks because it's better to gain data off the Live Servers for most things.

thats because riot has recently taken on the idea that we've already established were adding from PBE to league no matter what goes on in the PBE, only if something has a monumental bug will we scrap it, PBE is for "finalized ideas" not testing things, not like it used to be.

it used to be for new concepts and trial + errors, now its just nothing. riot doesn't take advantage of PBE enough.

Sukishoo5 votes

Well that's pretty much what I said. They use the Live to get more meaningful data with balancing and needed changes due to the fact it has a much bigger amount of people (Aka x CHAMPION IS BROKEN NERF PLZ), where as the PBE is a very small group (challenger vs bronze...not accurate data). If PBE was able to have a larger group of people then they'd be able to use it more for the idea of it was, but they can't because they keep it so condensed and run it on a much smaller server (aka needs an upgrade).

So anymore it's really just to show us upcoming content and possible changes (about 95% of them), as most everything on there goes live in the state it is.

right.... so they should force their untested garbage onto live before actual testing. brilliant.

Never said that, they need to make the PBE server bigger but they don't, so this is how they do what they do.

i really really wish, they asked for players opinions, sadly they dont.

riot has always done as riot pleases, and sadly they always will.

since a little before season 4, all PBE changes have always gone through, they never scrap something, they just "retest and delay" additions.

thats wrong.

now please, stop posting and upvoting yourself, its pathetic.

i really really wish, they asked for players opinions, sadly they dont. There's a huge amount of dangers in doing that lol. There are some people that would definitely vote on things based on their on bias. People would definitely detest the nerfing of their favorite champ and would definitely vote for buffs on their own champ even if they DO need a nerf rather than a buff. It'd be a pain to have to sort out of those types of things.

It's bad.

Especially for mage players.

Du Ma Mi1 votes

Firstly, this post is 30 days old, but as I really don't have a life - let's get down to it. With the mastery changes, the burst on most mages is pretty decent with Thunderlord's Decree, and DoT mages (swain, lissandra, morgana, even brand to an extent) have pretty good synergy with deathfire touch (although TD is kind of OP right now, so most people just run that).

On the other hand, the itemization of mages isn't really going well at the moment, so you have a valid point there. But the reason for that is because of the recent marksmen changes: they added items based on marksmen. When they do a big mage update, the itemization for mages will likely get better. They said that this update is likely coming through late 2016.

Well I hadn't been on the forums for about a month because of school XD I saw a response replied and then was like "shit"... XD My bad for bumping a dead thread. Deleted it in hopes that the thread would stay dead. xD

Honestly there are only two viable paths for ap users right now. Decree and deathfire.... While ad champions have 4 viable paths for keystone masteries. Mages are lacking any sort of variety. They also lack any real budget items at the moment. Mages need an adc level rework, rito pls.

Du Ma Mi1 votes

They're supposed to be getting a rework in 2016, but Rito said probably not until the end of the year, like ADC's did item 3070

Well its been going on for a while though, and so far no meaningful balance changes. I think that above anything else is what is annoying people. I would like to also point out, season 6 is a monthish away and so far pbe changes aren't addressing anything. Do not think it will change much when season 6 actually starts.

Du Ma Mi1 votes

Yes, I suppose my post (from a month ago, albeit) was a tad off.

Sohleks1 votes

Most of the gameplay changes I've come to accept/adapt to.

However there is one thing. I don't like how abrupt the game finishes at a high level of play. I've heard challenger level games are averaging 25 minutes right now. Reasoning would suggest they're decided before that point. It's not that the game is too snowbally; in fact swing can happen extremely easy with the long death timers and squishy towers; it's that the game is being pushed to artificially end fast so they can have their best of 3s lcs format.

Before you know it they'll probably reduce tower gold "to reduce snowball and reflect their flimsy-er nature" diluting their importance and remake dragon 5 as dragon 4. All an attempt to retain the shortening attention span of their playerbase and air more e-sports games.

If the epic feel of SR gets watered down too much season six might get marked as the end of the peak of the game and tapper off from here.

Last season was ridiculous as far as game length and teamfighting deathcomps goes. However it is how this game is played best IMO. Lots of teamfights done repeatedly. I predict next season we'll have less engaging battles. We'll all come together and it's probably much decided after one battle mostly reflective of how laning went or someone's misspositioning. Boring af
